Marcio Aurelio Soares Santos
Affiliate, Program-Rajagopal, R.
BioMarcio Santos is a distinguished scholar at Stanford University's School of Engineering (3SL), where he delves into energy applications in agriculture (Food, Fiber and Fuel). His research zeroes in studying governing elements in decision making, required infrastructure for interventions and understanding how decision-making processes affect sustainability, and demand-side data analytics.
He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from Mackenzie Presbyterian University. He further broadened his expertise with an M.Sc. in Economics, an MBA, and a Degree in Management, all from the Getulio Vargas Foundation, in addition to a Mathematics degree from São Paulo University. His educational journey includes being an alumnus of MIT, where he explored sustainability and innovation within his Ph.D. and M.Sc. programs.
He has accumulated a wealth of experience in the corporate world, serving in top executive roles (C-Level and Board member) at multinational companies, agricultural and machinery sectors. Since 2019, he has taken on the role of Managing Partner at a Family Office Fund, focusing on developing sustainable solutions for agriculture (food, fiber and fuel systems), and health (orthopedics). Additionally, he is a Board Member at the Center for Innovation in Agriculture (CIAg) in Brazil, further highlighting his commitment to advancing sustainable production systems. -
Selene Wang Sobek
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioSelene’s research focuses on understanding how stress and early-life experiences shape the neural circuits involved in opioid addiction and relapse. Her previous work examined how stress-related changes in brain reward circuits can increase vulnerability to opioid seeking following abstinence. This work inspired a broader interest in how dopamine and opioid signaling interact to influence addictive behaviors. Her current research investigates how ibogaine affects the neural systems associated with opioid addiction and explores whether understanding its mechanisms could contribute to developing more effective treatments for opioid use disorder.

Raymond A. Sobel, M.D.
Professor of Pathology
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe study cellular and molecular mechanisms of immune-mediated injury in CNS tissues that are affected in multiple sclerosis (MS). We study: 1) tissues of mice with EAE using histology and immunohistochemistry, 2) cross-recognition of neurons by antibodies against myelin proteolipid protein epitopes, and a distinct oligodendrogliopathy induced in mice by the non-protein amino acid azetidine (Aze), (which is found in the human diet); Aze-induced abnormalities mimic those in MS patient CNS tissues
