Dakuo Wang
Visiting Associate Professor, Computer Science
BioDakuo Wang is a Visiting Associate Professor at Stanford University, and an Associate Professor at Northeastern University, jointly appointed at Khoury College of Computer Sciences and the College of Arts, Media and Design. At Northeastern, Dakuo Wang leads the Northeastern University Human-Centered AI Lab (NEU HAI), and he is also the Founding Director of the AI Application Graduate Program. His research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI) and artificial intelligence (AI), with a focus on the exploration, development, and evaluation of human-centered AI (HCAI) systems to achieve human-AI collaboration.
Before joining Northeastern, Dakuo Wang was a Senior Staff Member at IBM Research, Principal Investigator at MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, and a Visiting Scholar at Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (Stanford HAI). He got his Ph.D. from the University of California Irvine (advisor: Judith Olson and Gary Olson). He has worked as a designer, researcher, and engineer in the U.S., China, and France. He serves in organizing committees, program committees, and editorial boards for a variety of venues, and ACM has recognized him as an ACM Distinguished Speaker. -

BioMy research is situated at the intersection of machine learning and human cognition. In my work, I apply learning analytics and data mining techniques to students’ interaction data in technology-based learning environments. The goal is to translate fine-grained behavioral data into meaningful evidence about students’ cognitive and metacognitive processes. These enhanced understandings of students’ mental processes and competencies are then used to guide the design of and evaluate instructional materials embedded in educational technology.

Associate Professor of Music and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI
BioGe Wang is an Associate Professor at Stanford University in the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). He specializes in the art of design and computer music — researching programming languages and interactive software design for music, interaction design, mobile music, laptop orchestras, expressive design of virtual reality, aesthetics of music technology design, and education at the intersection of computer science and music. Ge is the author of the ChucK music programming language, the founding director of the Stanford Laptop Orchestra (SLOrk). Ge is also the Co-founder of Smule (reaching over 200 million users), and the designer of the iPhone's Ocarina and Magic Piano. Gordon Wang
Clinical Associate Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
BioGordon Wang received his Bachelors of Arts and Science from the University of California, Davis in 2000 majoring in Comparative literature and Genetics. He received his PhD under Dr. Mu-ming Poo at the University of California, Berkeley in 2005 studying the role of ion channels in mediating neuronal growthcone guidance decisions. As a postdoctoral scholar in the lab of Dr. Stephen Smith at Stanford University, Gordon developed a computational architecture for the detailed study of molecular diversity in synapses and using this system, he studied the diverse role of synaptic diversity in neurodevelopmental diseases, such as fragile x syndrome. In a co-postdoc in Dr. Philippe Mourrain's lab, he studied the dynamic plasticity of synapses in sleep and circadian cycles in larval zebrafish using multi-photon microscopy. The Wang lab focuses on developing imaging tools to deeply analyze proteins, mRNA and lipids at the synapses, and understand how synaptic heterogeneity affect the function of neural circuits throughout development and aging and in diseases such as autism and fragile x syndrome.

Silas Palmer Professor of Engineering
BioHai Wang is Silas H. Palmer Professor of Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. His research interests are high-speed propulsion, combustion, and renewable energy conversion. His current research topics include combustion chemistry of conventional and renewable fuels, detonation, high-speed propulsion, quantum-chemistry guided battery materials design, and transport theories. He is the author and coauthor of recent papers in scholarly journals, including "Stable sodium-sulfur electrochemistry enabled by phosphorus-based complexation" in PNAS, “Geometric modeling and analysis of detonation cellular stability" in Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, "Flame-formed carbon nanoparticles exhibit quantum dot behaviors" in PNAS, "Nanoparticles in dilute gases: Equivalence of momentum accommodation and surface adsorption" in Physical Review E, "A Physics-based approach to modeling real-fuel combustion chemistry. I. Evidence from experiments, and thermodynamic, chemical kinetic and statistical considerations" in Combustion and Flame, and “Formation of nascent soot and other condensed-phase materials in flames” in Proceedings of the Combustion Institute. He was the Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, a highly influential energy journal published by Elsevier with an impact factor of 35.3 (2021). Currently, he serves as the President of the Combustion Institute - an international, non-profit, educational and scientific society that promotes and disseminates research activities in all areas of combustion science and technology for the advancement of many communities around the world.

Jack Tzu-Chieh Wang, MD, PhD

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur primary research focus is understanding the molecular mechanisms of axonal degeneration and subsequent failure of axonal regeneration in the CNS. We have identified critical cellular pathways mediating axonal degeneration following acute neurological injuries including ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury. Modulating these pathways presents a novel therapeutic strategy to protect vulnerable nerve fibers and enhance functional recovery in a multitude of acute CNS injuries and diseases.

BioDr. Wang is a board-certified dermatologist. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Wang is also board-certified in dermatopathology.

BioI am the head of the Diagnostic Medical Physics group at Environmental Health and Safety department. Our group provides medical physics services for Stanford Health Care, Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, and Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. The scope of our work includes:
• Radiation safety of X-ray imaging practice to ascertain the compliance of State and Federal regulations, The Joint Commission recommendations, requirements from related accreditation bodies and University policies
• Quality control program of X-ray imaging practice (Computed tomography, Interventional equipment, Fluoroscopy and Radiography) for Imaging and Interventional Services at hospitals
• Radiation dose monitoring and CT protocol optimization; Work with each clinical section on task-specific CT Dose and Image Quality optimization by utilizing our state-of-the-art CT equipment and novel iterative reconstruction techniques
• Review proposed research uses of x-rays in human subjects for Stanford IRB: evaluate doses and estimate risks and advise research investigators on radiation safety issues and how to solve related problems.
• Staff and trainee education on topics including CT technology, CT dose optimization, Fluoroscopy dose optimization, and radiation risk from ionizing imaging exams
• Clinical innovation: we work with physicians and hospital imaging and interventional teams on clinical research projects and activities that can be readily translated to patient care in Stanford affiliated health care systems -
Jie Wang

BioDr. Jie Wang is deeply passionate about magnetic nanotechnology, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic particle imaging (MPI), magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), magnetic nanofluid hyperthermia (MNFH), magnetic biosensors, etc., for biomedical applications. His dissertation focuses on MRI-guided magnetic hyperthermia for cancer theranostics. Currently, his research interests include developing enzyme-activable nanoparticles for brain cancer theranostics and employing multi-modal imaging modalities to investigate the interaction between nanoparticles and biosystems (nano-bio interaction) within tumor microenvironment.

Lei Wang

BioLei Wang, PHD, DABR, is a clinical professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Stanford, motivated in advancing patient quality of care, improving education for residents and trainees, and conducting clinical research to improve the quality and accuracy in treatment delivery. She is an expert in CyberKnife SRS/SBRT with more than 15 years of experiences. She currently serves as the chair of the AAPM task group 135.B committee on quality assurance for robotic radiosurgery.
Research interest: small field dosimety, machine and patient quality assurance, treatment planning, etc; new QA tool and methodology development; new treatment technology implementation to keeping high standard in patient care. -
Li Wang

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe study how the extraordinary diversity of cells and synapses in the brain is generated, organized, and maintained, and how these processes are disrupted in diseases such as neurodevelopmental disorders and brain cancer. By combining single-cell and spatial genomics, lineage tracing, perturbation screens, synaptic proteomics, and machine learning models, we aim to uncover the molecular rules that define neural identity and connectivity.
Our research spans two interrelated themes, each grounded in human biology and driven by cutting-edge technologies. By comparing these processes across species, we aim to uncover both conserved mechanisms and human-specific innovations that define the unique features of the human brain.
