Nicole Barr

BioNicole Barr is dually licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychotherapist (LMFT.) She has training and clinical experience in Medical Oncology, particularly in Breast Cancer and Lymphoma. She worked for more than a decade, clinically and as a sub-investigator on a number of clinical trials in lymphoma. She subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and pursued licensure as a Psychotherapist. She helped to develop and now works in the Psychosocial Oncology Program at the Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Center. She teaches and lectures in graduate training programs for both psychotherapists and advanced practice providers as well as speaking and providing educational programs for patients and caregivers. She also maintains a private practice focusing on couples and family counseling.

BioSarah Betts, MSN, BSN, ACNPC-AG, CCRN, SANE, is the Lead Advanced Practice Provider in the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit. A Bay Area native she studied classical voice performance and was a professional stage manager-turned-event manager prior to transitioning to a career in nursing. She earned both her Bachelor and Master of Nursing degrees from Georgetown University in Washington DC, and worked at the VA Palo Alto prior to joining the CVICU team at Stanford. Desiring more education in Palliative Medicine, she worked on the in-patient Palliative Medicine team where she enjoyed focusing on each patient’s unique experience of what quality of life means, and working towards making sure the care they get aligns with their values and what’s important in their lives. She transitioned to the Lead APP in the MICU in 2020 where she is able to combine her critical and palliative care experience to provide holistic and timely care to critically ill patients during some of the hardest moments in their lives.
