Xiaoxuan Yang

Affiliate, Program-Mitra, S.BioXiaoxuan Yang is a Visiting Postdoctoral Scholar in the Robust Systems Group at Stanford University and an Incoming Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Virginia. She received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University under the supervision of Dr. Hai Helen Li and Dr. Yiran Chen. She received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University and the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her research interests include emerging nonvolatile memory technologies, robustness and reliability enhancement in processing-in-memory designs, and hardware accelerators for deep learning applications.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsYangÂ’ lab's research interests are in the areas of bio-inspired biomaterials, medical devices, and 3D printing approaches for re-creating a suitable microenvironment for cell growth and tissue regeneration for musculoskeletal disease diagnosis and treatment, including multiple tissue healing such as rotator cuff injury, orthopedic diseases such as osteoporosis and osteonecrosis, and orthopedic traumas such as massive bone and muscle injuries.

These areas have been the unique and core disciplines of MS&E, and extended to new application areas in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Business Analytics.

BioBill Yen is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University working in the area of low-power Internet of Things (IoT) systems. He is an interdisciplinary maker and environmental scientist passionate about solving issues related to food, water, and energy using smart technologies.
Yen's experience in industry (General Motors, CNH Industrial) and academic research (Northwestern - soil-powered computing, Stanford - low-power wireless communication) cultivated his interest in designing self-powered computing devices that boost system efficiency while lowering the environmental impact of existing processes. His work has been featured by The Independent, MIT Technology Review China, Hackster.io, and more. He is also a recipient of the Stanford Graduate Fellowship in Science & Engineering. -
Serena Yeung

BioDr. Serena Yeung is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Data Science and, by courtesy, of Computer Science and of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. Her research focus is on developing artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to enable new capabilities in biomedicine and healthcare. She has extensive expertise in deep learning and computer vision, and has developed computer vision algorithms for analyzing diverse types of visual data ranging from video capture of human behavior, to medical images and cell microscopy images.
Dr. Yeung leads the Medical AI and Computer Vision Lab at Stanford. She is affiliated with the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Clinical Excellence Research Center, the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging, the Center for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, and Bio-X. She also serves on the NIH Advisory Committee to the Director Working Group on Artificial Intelligence. -

Do Y. Yoon
Adjunct Professor, Chemical Engineering
BioDo Y. Yoon is Adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University since 2012. He obtained his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Seoul National University, Korea (1969), and earned his Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from University of Massachusetts Amherst, working with Richard S. Stein (1973). He did his postdoctoral study with Paul J. Flory in Chemistry Department of Stanford University (1973-1975). He then worked in IBM Research Laboratory in San Jose, California as Research Staff Member and Manager of Polymer Physics Group (1975-1999). From 1999 to 2012, he was Professor of Chemistry at Seoul National University, Korea, and served as the Korean spokesperson of the Germany-Korea International Research Training Group on “Self-organized Materials for Optoelectronics” (2006-2012) and also as member of science advisory board of LG Chem (2000-2006). He published about 260 research papers (h-index of 75 and about 20,000 citations), was elected a fellow of American Physical Society (1985), and received Humboldt Research Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany (1999) and Academic Achievements Award from the Alumni Association of Seoul National University (2017). His research areas included molecular conformations & dynamics, semicrystalline molecular morphology, liquid crystalline state, surface and thin film characteristics of polymers, and structure-property relationships of polymers for information technology, organic electronics, and clean energy. He is a co-editor of "Selected Works of Paul J. Flory" and a co-author of "Paul John Flory: A Life of Science and Friends."

BioMy previous research in Japan focused on the development of genetic tools for marine bivalves. Inspired by the experience, I am seeking to find efficient and universally applicable methods to study non-model organisms that lack research infrastructure. As a biologist, I am most excited about the evolution of reproduction, everything from gametogenesis to reproductive behavior.
