Alireza Raissadati

Fellow in Pediatrics - CardiologyBioAlireza Raissadati, MD, PhD is a fellow in pediatric cardiology at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford. He obtained his medical degree, PhD in medicine, and PhD in biotechnology from University of Helsinki. His research focused on population-based long-term outcomes of patients following congenital heart surgery and the role of vascular growth factors and gene vectors as management strategies for heart transplant rejection.
Dr. Raissadati completed his pediatric residency training at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School and Boston Medical Center in Boston, MA. His clinical interest lies in treating pediatric patients with heart failure and following heart transplantation. His research is focused on understanding the intricacies of heart transplant rejection to find new therapeutic targets for acute rejection and coronary artery vasculopathy of the heart transplant. -
Mahalakshmi Ramamurthy

BioI am a postdoctoral scholar working with Dr. Jason Yeatman. With a background in vision science, psychophysics and developmental cognitive neuroscience my long-term goal is to study the intersection of basic visual mechanisms and various neurodevelopmental disorders and to extend this understanding in creating effective early screening tools, and in advancing evidence-based therapeutic and remediation programs. Inherent to this interest is the need for developmental data in large and demographically diverse populations. I strongly believe that such inclusive research not only contributes to scientific advancements but can go beyond to bridge health and education disparities.

Rameshwar (Ram) Rao MD PhD

BioMy scientific training spans over a decade of published research in the fields of vascularized bone tissue engineering, biomineralization, gene therapy, and spectral ultrasound. I earned my BS from UC Davis and MS/PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. I have aimed to form highly collaborative and multidisciplinary research groups at each level of training. This work has resulted in 21 publications, award-winning manuscripts, and multiple national conference research awards. My successful research career began during my undergraduate studies where my work in Prof. Kent Leach’s lab resulted in 3 publications and the Department of Biomedical Engineering Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award. My graduate thesis under the guidance of Prof. Jan Stegemann resulted in 12 publications (7 as first author) in high quality, peer-reviewed journals in the fields of engineering and biotechnology. My graduate studies were funded by an NIH T32 Training grant and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. My graduate work culminated in the 2013 Outstanding PhD Research Award from the Society for Biomaterials (SFB) and the 2013 Outstanding Student Award from the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society (TERMIS). Recognizing the gap in translation of bioengineering research into clinical practice, I opted to pursue an MD at the University of Michigan to become the physician-scientist that identifies clinical problems, engineers the solution, and delivers it back to the patient to advance treatments and improve survival outcomes. My success continued through medical school with 4 clinical research manuscripts and Graduation with Distinction in Research, awarded to 10% of the class.
In the next phase of my training, I will complete my fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Stanford through the Accelerated Research Pathway by the American Board of Pediatrics. Prof. Sarah Heilshorn, Associate Chair of Materials Science at Stanford, will be my primary research and career development mentor. Together, we have designed an innovative approach targeting the extracellular matrix to improve survival outcomes in pediatric osteosarcoma. -

Alexis Reeves

BioAlexis is a Propel postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health in the School of Medicine with Dr. Michelle Odden’s lab. Her research is broadly focused on the causes and consequences of racial disparities in accelerated aging. She is particularly interested in the interplay of structural and interpersonal racism, and the psychobiological mechanisms in which they produce early health declines in minoritized populations. Her work to date has focused on the health of Black women as they enter into life-stages, such as the midlife menopausal transition, where cardio-metabolic risk is high. Alexis also has a strong interest in causal inference, and applies causal inference theory and methods to these areas of research to mitigate and quantify bias.

Izabela Mauricio Rezende

BioI have a B.S. in Biology, M.Sc. in Immunology and Infectious diseases, Ph.D. in Microbiology. I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Stanford University School of Medicine, working with Dr. Jason Andrews at the new Stanford Pandemic Preparedness Hub, a fellowship I was awarded at the end of 2022. As part of a pandemic preparedness, We are tytrying to understand the potential viruses at risk of pandemic spread. Using disease modeling, epidemiological, and phylogenetic analysis, we study the genomic evolution and transmission dynamics of H5N1 avian influenza A after 2020.
I am in my third postdoctoral year at Stanford and completed the first two years with Dr. Desiree LaBeaud. I have a Ph.D. in Microbiology, with an emphasis in Virology, and a Master’s in Infectious Diseases. . My Ph.D. was conducted in Brazil, under the supervision of Dr. Betânia Drumond, and contemplated the virological and epidemiological aspects of yellow fever (YF) outbreak in Minas Gerais/BR in 2017-2018, combining laboratory, clinical, and data analysis (publications: DOI 10.1126/science.aat7115; DOI 10.1371/journal.pntd.0006538; DOI 10.1128/jcm.00254-22; DOI 10.3390/vaccines7040206; DOI 10.1186/s12985-019-1277-7). I came to Stanford University for my first postdoc with Dr. Desiree LaBeaud. For two years, I led an international NIH R01 project investigating the dynamics of the biggest YF outbreak in Brazil, including the description of a new syndrome, Late-relapsing hepatitis after yellow fever (DOI 10.3390/v12020222), and risk factors for severe YF. I was also involved in other projects regarding SARS-CoV-2 variants and disease severity in infants (DOI 10.3389/fmed.2022.896352), Rift Valley fever virus epidemiology in humans and animals in Kenya (DOI 10.1371/journal.pgph.0000505), and dengue virus evolution in Africa (ongoing Ph.D. candidate mentorship).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we also supported the Brazilian Ministry of Health with the SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis in human samples and also in the investigation of the SARS-CoV-2 RNA in surfaces of density public areas of Belo Horizonte. Since Nov/2018 I had been an editor in the journal Docência do Ensino Superior (RDES / GIZ / UFMG) and in Jan/2020 I became Editor-in-Chief. -

BioEve Rosenfeld is a postdoctoral fellow in VA's Advanced Fellowship Program in Mental Illness Research and Treatment at the National Center for PTSD, Dissemination & Training Division (NCPTSD D&T), VA Palo Alto Health Care System and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University. She is also the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator at NCPTSD D&T. Her research focuses on harnessing digital interventions such as mobile apps to increase access to evidence-based care for PTSD, particularly for marginalized communities such as the LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities.
