Qinqin Kong
Postdoctoral Scholar, General Internal Medicine
BioI am currently a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Departments of Medicine and Health Policy at Stanford University, after earning my PhD in Atmospheric Science from Purdue University. My research examines the physical drivers and societal impacts of extreme heat. My PhD work focused on how land–atmosphere interactions shape human heat stress and on the economic and energy impacts of increasing heat stress under climate change. At Stanford, my postdoctoral research focuses on the public health impacts of heat, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
My ongoing projects include: (1) evaluating the effects of dry versus humid prenatal heat exposure on child stunting in India; and (2) developing a data-driven framework to address a longstanding question in heat-health research: how much should humidity factor into the measurement of human heat stress? My methodological expertise spans climate modeling, human biophysics modeling, and empirical causal inference. -

Julie Jung Hyun Lee
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Julie J. Lee is a Stanford physician board-certified in Internal Medicine, Obesity Medicine, and Clinical Informatics. Her work centers on two goals: (1) augmenting the human practice of medicine through technology and (2) advancing precision health through innovation in obesity medicine. She maintains an active clinical practice in primary care and obesity medicine to keep a pulse on changing clinical realities, ensuring that her work is grounded in real-world care and, whenever possible, co-designed and tested with the patients and care teams it is meant to serve.
In clinical informatics, Dr. Lee focuses on how emerging technologies such as AI can augment clinicians while preserving clinical judgment. Her work spans clinical decision support, workflow redesign, and the responsible integration of technology into care. As Health Equity Informaticist in Stanford’s Division of Primary Care and Population Health, she also uses data and community engagement to advance more equitable care, including language-concordant care.
In obesity medicine, Dr. Lee focuses on Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic (CKM) health and is curious about where the rapidly evolving science of obesity may lead, including its implications for cancer, inflammation, addiction, and healthy longevity. Her approach is informed by training in epidemiology and quantitative methods and prior work in chronic disease surveillance and women’s cardiovascular health. As Clinical Champion of the Stanford Metabolic Health Interventions and Lifestyle Empowerment Support (SMILES) Program, she is particularly interested in how primary care can thoughtfully integrate emerging therapeutics, technologies, and multidisciplinary care while building evidence for historically underserved and understudied populations.
Across her work, health equity, ethics, and the medical humanities remain foundational. As an artist and musician first, the humanities keep her connected to the joy of medicine and her belief that advances in science and technology should protect and preserve the essence of original human creativity. -

Christine Kee Liu
Associate Professor of Medicine (Primary Care and Population Health)
BioDr. Liu and her research program are dedicated to improving the lives of older adults with kidney disease. Currently her research focuses on mobility, which is the ability to move safely and reliably from one place to another. In older adults, poor mobility strongly predicts future disability and death. Retaining mobility has been cited by older adults as fundamental to quality to life; yet many older persons with kidney disease, especially those with late stage chronic kidney disease or outright kidney failure, have trouble just walking across the room or transferring to a chair. Dually trained in geriatric medicine and epidemiology, Dr. Liu also has significant expertise in older adult clinical trials, including safety trials of novel agents as well as intervention studies to reduce infections in older populations.
