Shania Danielle Bayley

BioDr. Shania Bayley is a Postdoctoral Scholar on the Autism Spectrum Disorders track at Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She earned her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University Maryland, where her training was specialized in child and adolescent psychology with a strong emphasis on neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma-informed care, and early relational health.
She completed her predoctoral internship at WestCoast Children’s Clinic in Oakland, California. Her clinical interests include diagnostic assessment of autism spectrum disorder, parent-child relational dynamics, and attachment-based interventions in marginalized communities. She has received training in psychodiagnostic testing and has experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and families across school, community, and hospital settings. -
Rebecca Bilden
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioRebecca Bilden, PhD, MSc is a T32 Postdoctoral Fellow in Pain and Substance Use at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she conducts research under the mentorship of Drs. Keith Humphreys and Brian Bateman. Dr. Bilden is a health services researcher and decision scientist whose work focuses on improving access to treatment for substance use disorders through evidence-based policy and simulation modeling. By integrating qualitative insights into models, she analyzes system dynamics and develops strategies to improve care delivery within complex healthcare systems.
Dr. Bilden earned her PhD in Health Services Research and Policy from the University of Pittsburgh, an MSc in Applied Data Science and Statistics from the University of Exeter, and a BA in Pure and Applied Mathematics from Boston University. Her current research focuses on evaluating opioid-related policies, improving treatment retention among pregnant people, and expanding access to care in carceral settings. -
Adriel Brown
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioDr. Adriel Brown is a clinical neuroscientist and postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine where he employs electroencephalographic (EEG) methods to investigate the effects of creative arts therapies (e.g., art, dance/movement, drama, music, and poetry therapies) and mind-body practices, including mindfulness, meditation, spirituality, and yoga, on neurocognitive processes in individuals with psychiatric disorders.
At Teachers College, Columbia University, Dr. Brown completed his Ph.D. in Cognitive Science in Education (Area of Focus: Creativity and Cognition) and his M.S. in Neuroscience and Education (Award of Completion: Spirituality Mind Body). He is a former professional dancer and he completed his M.A. in Teaching Dance in Higher Education and the Professions (Concentration: Ballet Pedagogy) from New York University and his B.F.A. in Ballet (Minor: Arts Administration) from Texas Christian University. He is a Certified Teacher of the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum.
In addition to his appointment at Stanford University, Dr. Brown is an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Sciences at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he teaches Social and Affective Neuroscience and Neuroscience, Ethics, and the Law. Previously, he was an instructor in the School of Professional Studies at Columbia University in the City of New York, where he taught Introduction to Neuroscience: Understanding the Brain and The Neuroscience of Psychiatric Disorders. -
Poppy Brown
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioPoppy Brown (she/her) completed both her Ph.D. in Psychiatry and training to become a Clinical Psychologist (D.Clin.Psych) at the University of Oxford, UK before joining the INSPIRE Clinic at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences as a postdoctoral scholar. Dr Brown’s research and clinical work focusses on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and compassion focussed therapy (CFT) for individuals experiencing psychosis. Her PhD was in the Oxford Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis team, supervised by Prof Daniel Freeman and Prof Felicity Waite and her DClinPsych was with the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training and Research. She provides CBTp expertise and consultancy within the statewide EPI-CAL technical assistance project, training within the INSPIRE clinic's CBTp training division, and supervises a number of current trainee clinical psychologist research projects.

Katie Cederberg
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioDr. Cederberg is a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University in the Mignot Lab, where she devotes her time to conducting research leveraging large datasets and machine learning approaches aimed at better understanding the relationship among genetics, proteomics and the presence and severity of symptoms related to sleep disorders. Her research further focuses on studying the effectiveness of exercise for managing symptoms of sleep disorders, primarily restless legs syndrome (RLS) and co-occurring conditions (e.g., periodic limb movements and insomnia). Her current research explores patients’ experiences with exercise and RLS, as well as the relationship between exercise and proteomic biomarkers of RLS. She received her PhD in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and her dissertation used a series of methodological approaches to comprehensively examine the relationship between physical activity and RLS in adults who have multiple sclerosis. She is using her experience and training to develop a line of research for identifying the mechanism of action for the effect of exercise and informing exercise prescription parameters for managing symptoms of RLS.

Chunyang Dong

BioChunyang Dong completed his Ph.D. studies from University of California, Davis with Dr. Lin Tian, where he specialized in protein engineering to develop genetically encoded biosensors to enable real-time imaging of neuromodulator dynamics. As part of his postdoctoral pursuits with Dr. Sergiu Pasca at Stanford University, he hopes to combine disciplines between biosensors and modeling human neurological disease using brain region-specific organoids. Despite this shift, his unwavering goal is to deepen the understanding of brain development, disease processes, and translate research to potential treatments for neurological disorders.

Igor D. Bandeira

BioIgor D. Bandeira, M.D., Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. With extensive experience in interventional psychiatry, Dr. Bandeira has led multiple clinical trials focused on noninvasive brain stimulation and rapid-acting antidepressants for psychiatric disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. He received the prestigious Professor Alfredo Thomé de Britto Award in recognition of his exceptional research achievements during his physician-scientist training at the Federal University of Bahia in Salvador, Brazil.
As part of his medical training, Dr. Bandeira also studied at the University of Sydney (Australia) on a Science Without Borders Scholarship, where he enhanced his clinical and research skills at the university’s Brain and Mind Centre. Upon returning to Brazil, he gained valuable clinical experience as an attending physician with the Brazilian Ministry of Health and worked on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Stanford, working with Dr. Nolan R. Williams, Dr. Bandeira led the Wellcome LEAP trial on accelerated intermittent theta-burst stimulation (Stanford Neuromodulation Therapy) to treat anhedonic depression. Alongside Dr. Alan F. Schatzberg, he is co-leading a trial supported by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, evaluating the efficacy and safety of buprenorphine in sustaining the antisuicidal effects of ketamine. His work centers on developing personalized therapeutics for treatment-resistant depression, bipolar depression, and suicidal behavior.
Looking ahead, Dr. Bandeira plans to apply for psychiatry residency programs in the United States to advance his career in academic psychiatry and clinical research. -
Cordelia Erickson-Davis MD PhD MPH

Postdoctoral Scholar, PsychiatryBioDr. C. Erickson-Davis is a psychiatrist and medical anthropologist specializing in the care of patients with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), and other complex neuropsychiatric presentations. Her clinical work is grounded in a deep respect for the lived experience of illness and healing and integrates neurological, psychiatric, and sociocultural perspectives. She is committed to collaborative, trauma-informed care that honors the mind-body relationship without reduction.
Her research investigates how theories of mind and brain are shaped by social context - and how, in turn, those theories of perception shape lived experience, including in the clinic. She is developing the framework of Perception as Constitutive Intra-action (PCI) to theorize these dynamics, and is currently writing a book on the lived experience of visual prosthesis users and the history of “information” in the neurosciences, tracing how it has shaped theories, technologies, and subjective experience.
She leads the Precision Language Lab Initiative at Stanford, a space for collaborative inquiry into how lived experience, narrative, and perception can be more meaningfully integrated into the clinical neurosciences. -
Emily Ferguson, PhD

BioEmily Ferguson, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral academic researcher and clinician within Stanford University’s Autism and Developmental Disorders Research Program (https://med.stanford.edu/autism.html) within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of California Santa Barbara and completed her clinical internship at the University of California Los Angeles. Dr. Ferguson's research focuses on advancing understanding of mechanisms of challenging behaviors in autistic youth and adults to inform treatment development. Her work takes a comprehensive perspective, integrating methods from implementation science to improve the accessibility and quality of clinical care for underserved autistic populations, especially those with higher support needs (or "profound autism"). She is also interested in developing methods to improve self-regulation in individuals with profound autism to effectively manage self-injurious behaviors and aggression. Dr. Ferguson is currently supporting research in the Preschool Autism Lab (https://med.stanford.edu/autismcenter/pre-school-autism-lab-program.html), and exploring profiles of challenging behaviors with the Program for Psychometrics and Measurement-Based Care (https://med.stanford.edu/sppmc.html) in a diverse range of autistic and non-autistic youth to inform treatment approaches.

Sandra Natalie Gomez

BioDr. Sandra N. Gomez is a proud Chicana psychologist. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Cornell College and her M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri–Columbia. She earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology (Spanish bilingual concentration) from Columbia University, and completed her APA-accredited internship at the University of Miami’s Counseling Center. Currently, she is a postdoctoral clinical psychology fellow in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, where her clinical and research work bridges her interests in identity development, acculturation, and community healing. At Stanford, she works with high-performance athletes, Latine communities, and families and couples, work that allows her to integrate her commitment to culturally responsive evidence-based practices with her scholarly focus on acculturation, ethnic identity, and the educational and career trajectories of individuals. Rooted in social justice and collective healing, Dr. Gomez also explores the healing potential of movement as a way to deepen connection to self and community. Dr. Gomez is a former APA Interdisciplinary Minority Fellow and Kellogg Legacy Doctoral Mentoring Scholar. She currently serves on the Leadership Council of the National Latinx Psychological Association as the Current Student Representative and is a student reviewer for the Journal of Latinx Psychology.

Juan Sebastián Gómez-Cañón

BioJuan S. Gómez-Cañón is a researcher, engineer and musician from Colombia. He holds a Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technologies from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain). During his Ph.D., Juan researched human-centered and trustworthy machine learning methods to predict the emotions in music. His research focuses on deep learning, human-centered ML, personalization, dataset curation, and digital signal processing. Juan also holds a M.Sc. in Media Technology (Technische Universität Ilmenau, Germany), a B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering and a B.A. in Music (Universidad de los Andes, Colombia).

Maira Karan
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioMaira Karan is a postdoctoral fellow in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and a Pathyways to Neuroscience trainee through the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute. Her doctoral research focused on how positive human behaviors, such as empathy and prosociality, develop during the period of adolescence and how the adolescent brain and body mature in concert to support these other-oriented behaviors. Her research has utilized behavioral experiments, validated questionnaires, ecological momentary assessments, longitudinal assessments, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Another line of her work examines how sleep affects adolescent health and well-being with a special focus on circadian rhythms. At Stanford, she is working on merging her two lines of research to assess how sleep and circadian timing influence adolescent behaviors and health. In addition to conducting research, she has a deep passion for uplifting underrepresented individuals in(to) the fields of psychology and neuroscience, and she has a Certificate in Critical Consciousness & Anti-Oppressive Practices.

Wayne Kepner

BioWayne Kepner, PhD, MPH is a public health researcher whose scholarship focuses on health disparities and substance use among vulnerable populations. Dr. Kepner is currently a T-32 Post-doctoral Fellowship in Pain and Substance Use at Stanford University's School of Medicine, where he will continue his research under the mentorship of Dr. Keith Humphreys and Dr. Mark McGovern.
Dr. Kepner received his doctoral degree from the Joint Doctoral Program in Interdisciplinary Research on Substance Use at San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego. His research focused on substance use disorders, health services utilization, and geospatial analysis of health data, with a particular emphasis on older adult populations. Dr. Kepner has extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, having conducted interviews with older adults on cannabis use and analyzed large-scale electronic health records. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications on topics ranging from cannabis use trends to emergency department utilization for substance-related diagnoses. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Kepner is committed to community engagement, co-founding Aztecs For Recovery, a collegiate recovery program at SDSU.
