Irene Bailey

BioIrene Bailey is a Regulatory Specialist supporting Dr. Jean Tang in the Dermatology Department. She is a trained clinical laboratory technologist from the Munster Technological University, Cork, Ireland. She worked in pre-clinical research for many years before transitioning her career to clinical research. Irene holds a Certificate in Clinical Trials Design and Management from UC Santa Cruz Extension. She started her career in clinical research at the Stanford Cancer Center, Clinical Trials Office before joining Dr. Tang's Team in 2011.
Outside of work Irene enjoys visual and performing arts, Pilates and yoga. -
Leandra A. Barnes, MD
Instructor, Dermatology
BioDr. Barnes is a board-certified dermatologist who provides care at Stanford Health Care Dermatology Clinics in Redwood City and Emeryville. She is also an Instructor of Dermatology within the Department of Dermatology at Stanford School of Medicine.
Dr. Barnes specializes in diagnosing and treating a broad range of skin conditions, including hidradenitis suppurativa, skin cancer, and conditions that disproportionally impact people of color. As Co-Director of the Stanford Medicine Hidradenitis Suppurativa Specialty Clinic, her clinical focus includes maximizing awareness of and care options for this condition. Dr. Barnes is also the Founding Director of the Stanford Medicine Skin of Color Program and Director of Advocacy, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Dermatology at Stanford Medicine.
Dr. Barnes’ clinical research focuses on identifying the underlying mechanisms associated with the onset and progression of hidradenitis suppurativa. These efforts include research on access to care among different patient populations and studies identifying immune-mediated characteristics of the condition. She is also engaged in efforts to promote broader and more effective outreach initiatives to drive melanoma awareness among minority populations and young children.
Dr. Barnes has published her work in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. She has also been an invited guest speaker at national and international meetings, including those for the Society of Investigative Dermatology and the World Congress of Dermatology. -

BioI’m a Research Coordinator at Stanford University, with over three years of experience in medical research and technology development. My work at Wipe Out Melanoma - California (WOM-CA) focuses on the importance of healthcare access and levering technology for early detection of melanoma.
I’ve worked in human subject research involving wearable devices and led hands-on training for study procedures, including data collection and handling. I’m passionate about applying real-life solutions to modern social and healthcare challenges. I’m skilled in data & project management and fluently speak Spanish. -

BioJenny Deng is an Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator for Dr. Jean Tang in the Dermatology department. She received her bachelor’s in science from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a major in Molecular and Cell Developmental Biology. She is also a certified phlebotomy technician with an active license. Jenny was born and raised in San Francisco, and when she is not working, enjoys her spare time traveling, working out, and exploring new restaurants to eat.

BioI recently graduated from St. George's University School of Medicine in May 2026 and am excited to be joining the Pediatric Dermatology research team at Stanford under the mentorship of Dr. Teng. Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, I will be spending the year conducting clinical research while expanding my knowledge of pediatric dermatology and academic medicine. I look forward to learning from the outstanding faculty and collaborators at Stanford, contributing to meaningful research, and preparing to apply for Dermatology residency in the 2027 Match.

Suzanne Michelle Sachsman, MD

BioSuzanne Sachsman, M.D., is Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology. Dr. Sachsman received her Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Brown University in 2000. She received her medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in 2008 where she spent one year doing dedicated basic science research studying cancer immunotherapy. She trained in radiation oncology, completing residency at USC and fellowship at the University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute, prior to completing her dermatology residency at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2018. Dr. Sachsman is a board certified dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Her clinical interests are general dermatology and complex medical dermatology including acne, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, high risk non-melanoma skin cancer, pigmented lesions, supportive dermato-oncology, and cutaneous lymphoma.

Suhas Srinivasan, Ph.D.

BioI develop computational algorithms including AI/ML and statistical methods to discover insights at various resolutions of the biological hierarchy i.e., molecules, cells, tissues, organs, organism and population-scale.
In my current role in the laboratories of Paul Khavari and Howard Chang I conduct bioinformatics research to study the molecular mechanisms of tissue development, cancers, autoimmunity and chronic diseases using multiomics, with a focus on the non-coding genome.
I have ten years of academic research experience and received my Ph.D. in Data Science specializing in AI/ML development for diverse topics in biomedicine.
My research interests include artificial intelligence to identify novel patterns in multiomics data, psychometrics and neuroimaging data; structural bioinformatics and computational epidemiology. Additionally, I have conducted research in anomaly detection, and community detection in biological networks.
I am the co-inventor of a patented anomaly detection method for real-time streaming data.
Prior to graduate training and academic research, I was a full-stack software engineer in industry for three years. -
Aruna Venkatesan

Staff, DermatologyBioAruna Venkatesan, M.D. is Chief of Dermatology and Director of the Genital Dermatology Clinic at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, a teaching county hospital, and is Clinical Professor of Dermatology (Affiliated) at Stanford. Dr. Venkatesan obtained her MD from the University of California, San Francisco where she was AOA and completed her dermatology residency including a chief resident year at Stanford. Her professional interests include genital skin disease, resident education, primary care provider education, and the use of telemedicine to improve patient care access for vulnerable populations.She has trained with noted vulvovaginal disease experts Dr. Joanna Badger at Stanford and Dr. Libby Edwards. Dr. Venkatesan is a Fellow of the ISSVD and President-Elect for the North American Chapter of the ISSVD.
