Current Role at StanfordDon Mitchell is the Director of the Academic Application Services (AAS) team in TDS. The AAS team focuses on the creation, integration, and deployment of web-based solutions for the Stanford University School of Medicine. We make use of a variety of hardware, software, and cloud technologies and partner closely with teams across TDS, the School of Medicine, and the University. We manage development, testing, and production environments, perform process mappings, set architecture standards, and provide consultations to teams looking to do software development or use SaaS solutions.
AAS' vision is to empower staff, faculty, and students with the integrated information, solutions, and IT resources needed to be successful and to support best-in-class administrative processes across the research and education missions. -

Current Role at StanfordI'm a member of Academic Application Services (AAS) team within the Technology and Digital Solutions (TDS) of Stanford Healthcare with focus on architecting and integrating Web and cloud based solutions for Stanford University in general and for the Stanford Healthcare (SHC) and School of Medicine (SoM) in particular. Solution space includes administrative, technical, infrastructural and research applications and processes. As a team, we partner with other groups of TDS, the University, Stanford Healthcare Adult and Children's Hospitals and related participating organizations to build and support IT solutions for business and research. We implement development and release processes, set architectural standards, and run our development and QA environments.

Henry Hoang Nguyen

Other Tech - Graduate, Technology & Digital SolutionsBioHenry Nguyen was born and raised in Abbeville, Louisiana, and is a proud graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana. Before becoming a Stanford medical student in 2022, Henry co-founded organizations dedicated to increasing inclusivity in the fields of competitive athletics, the performing arts, and media production. Stanford’s distinct environment has allowed him to continue nurturing these organizations during medical school, and he has also picked up new projects contributing to cutting-edge innovation in the fields of biotechnology, medical education, and video game design.
Henry has taken classes at Stanford’s law school, business school, and engineering school to augment his MD education. He then applied these skills to assist multiple companies in successfully acquiring venture capital funding, and he continues to serve as a trusted advisor to major Artificial Intelligence firms, such as Synaptiq Learning, Anthropic, and Snorkel AI. Henry is the youngest person to ever be elected to the Stanford Medicine Alumni Board of Governors and has been awarded multiple Stanford-based grants to support his scholarly activity in neuroimaging. Lastly, he has actively supported the Stanford Medicine Radiology Department by reviving the Radiology Interest Group, leading pre-clinical radiology electives, and designing a completely new radiology clerkship.
Henry hopes to follow the example of his mentors by using the unique merits of radiology to combine his passions for clinical care, academic scholarship, and industrial innovation. Most importantly, he plans to dedicate his career to increasing access to state-of-the-art healthcare, so that the advancements of his classmates and colleagues can one day be available to the patients in his hometown. -

We design, build, and operate a variety of software applications and infrastructure to support research and improve patient health outcomes here at Stanford and at other hospitals around the world. I enjoy partnering with our researchers and clinicians to help them apply information technology to solve meaningful problems. I also manage a team of software developers working on tracking health status and outcomes, mobile health, and cloud computing infrastructure.

My Stanford Projects:
- Stanford Cancer Center Research Database (SCIRDB)
Developed a web-based platform to integrate data from the Stanford Cancer Institute (EPIC/Clarity), Stanford Tumor Registry, STRIDE (Tissue Bank & Pre-EPIC Data), and several other systems into a "one-stop shop" for data analysis and annotation by cancer researchers. This cohort-driven system allows users to focus on their patients of interest and provides free-text search of all their notes, reports and narratives as well as a timeline-based view of all events for a patient. Easy exports allow for data analysis in biostatistical tools and the system can perform complex analysis using the open-source R statistical software as a service.
- Lymphoma Program Project (LPP)
Rearchitected an existing legacy database system that tracks Stanford's Non-Hodgkins and Hodgkins Lymphoma cases back to the late 1960's. Enables clinicians to track diagnosis, courses of treatment, long-term follow-up, and clinical responses to the diseases.
- Bone Marrow Transplant Program
Developed replacement web-enabled database based on legacy system in place since 1980s that enhanced data capture abilities by leveraging data feeds from BMT Clinic and Stanford Hospital. Also enabled electronic form submission to national transplant databank via XML-based web-services.
- Transplant Arteriosclerosis, Viral and Host Mechanisms
Developed web-based application and reporting systems Gathered requirements, translated requirements into technical specifications, built reporting tools, designed table schemas, migrated database tables from Access to Oracle, normalizing and validating data in the process. Wrote all SQL scripts for automating data migration.
- Stanford Asian Pacific Program in Hypertension and Insulin Resistance (SAPPHIRe)
Provided on-going maintenance for the project by uploading data, generating reports for statistical analysis and modifying table schema to incorporate new measurements such as creatinine.
- GenePad Project
Developed a web-based tool for quality assurance of scanned form data that allows users to view scanned input and validate it before storing it into final database tables. The tool dynamically configures itself by examining the structure of the database.
