Andrew Huckins-Noss

BioAndrew Huckins-Noss is an interdisciplinary social sciences researcher and educator whose work spans the fields of education, psychology, developmental science, and anthropology to investigate how experiences of discrimination and inequality shape health behaviors and psychological well-being among marginalized students. He received his bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, magna cum laude, from Brown University, followed by his master’s degree in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University. Currently, he is a PhD student in Developmental and Psychological Sciences at Stanford’s Graduate School of Education, where he was named a 2025 fellow by the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education.
Andrew’s research focuses on cultural adaptations of suicide prevention interventions for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) adolescents and young adults. In particular, Andrew seeks to utilize mixed methods community-based participatory research to inform culturally attuned suicide prevention interventions aimed at promoting belonging and adaptive coping among marginalized students. -

Cassandra Huff

BioCassandra Huff is a PhD Candidate in Electrical Engineering working on developing cost-effective sensors for measuring biogenic, greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). She is interested in the overlap of technology and environmental science, science and technology policy and ethics, and prototyping. Her PhD work is specifically focused on building a cost-effective, scalable, optical sensor to measure methane (CH4) emissions from wetland and rice paddies.

Sydney Hunt

BioSydney Hunt (she/her), from Cornwall, New York, is a Knight-Hennessy Scholar pursuing a PhD in electrical engineering with a focus on brain-computer interfaces (BCI) at Stanford School of Engineering. She is advised by Paul Nuyujukian, MD, PhD in the Brain Interfacing Laboratory.
She currently serves as a Trustee on the Duke University Board of Trustees, Knight-Hennessy Scholar Ambassador, and on the Knight-Hennessy Scholar Experience Committee. She graduated with distinction from Duke University with bachelor’s degrees in electrical/computer engineering and computer science (concentration in artificial intelligence and machine learning), and a minor in gender, sexuality, and feminist studies.
An aspiring professor, Sydney passionately commits herself to STEM retention as a founding member of both the nonprofit CS Sidekicks and Duke’s S.P.I.R.E. Fellows Living Learning Community. She conducted and published her BCI research at Caltech (Richard Andersen’s lab) and MIT (Polina Anikeeva’s lab) through the WAVE Fellows and MIT SRP-Bio programs, respectively. She enjoys playing soccer, trying new food, and dad jokes. Sydney is certified in Mental Health First Aid and a recipient of Duke’s Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarship. -

BioI've had an interest in rocks and fossils since I was a small child, amassing a large collection in my youth, but hadn't considered it a viable career path instead starting my path as a social scientist studying gender and sexuality. My interest in a career in paleontology peaked after finishing my first degree, leading me to pursue a second bachelors degree. While working on my undergraduate at Weber State I discovered a true deep love of plants as well as a curiosity about the methods they use to adapt to new environments, which has lead me to pursuing a doctoral degree here at Stanford University.

She graduated with honors in Biological Sciences from Nazarbayev University and earned a Master of Public Health in Health Policy from Yale University as a Horstmann Scholar. Assel aims to leverage decision sciences to support policymakers in making cost-effective and equitable health decisions, with a focus on strengthening health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
Previously, Assel worked at Yale’s Equity Research and Innovation Center, where she focused on healthcare equity for ethnic minorities, and at the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab, where she contributed to research on transitioning to high-value health systems, and additionally, assisted with WHO global health projects.
She also placed in the top 10 at the Asian Universities Alliance Social Entrepreneurship Competition at Tsinghua University for her mental health app, Mind Matters. -

Haruka Itakura, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Medicine (Oncology)
BioDr. Haruka Itakura is an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Oncology) in the Stanford University School of Medicine, a data scientist, and a practicing breast medical oncologist at the Stanford Women’s Cancer Center. She is board-certified in Oncology, Clinical Informatics, Hematology, and Internal Medicine. Her research mission is to drive medical advances at the intersection of cancer and data science, applying state-of-the-art machine learning/artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to extract clinically actionable knowledge from heterogeneous multi-scale cancer data to improve patient outcomes. Her ongoing research to develop robust methodologies and apply cutting-edge techniques to analyze complex cancer big data was catapulted by an NIH K01 Career Development Award in Biomedical Big Data Science after obtaining a PhD in Biomedical Informatics at Stanford University. Her cancer research focuses on extracting radiomic (pixel-level quantitative imaging) features of tumors from medical imaging studies and applying machine learning frameworks, including radiogenomic approaches, for the integrative analysis of heterogeneous, multiomic (e.g., radiomic, genomic, transcriptomic) data to accelerate discoveries in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. Her current projects include data science/AI-powered prediction modeling of survival, treatment response, cancer recurrence, and metastasis in different cancer subtypes; detection of occult invasive breast cancer; and identification of novel therapeutic targets. Her goal is to translate her research findings back to the clinical setting for the benefit of patients with difficult-to-treat cancers.

Sarah Izabel

BioSarah was born and raised in Brazil where she attended law school before moving to the United States and shifting her interest to Neuroscience. She completed majors in Biology and Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2020. At VCU, Sarah was part of the NIH-IMSD program and worked on uncovering mechanisms of axonal pathology in the lab of Dr. Jeff Dupree. She also worked with a clinical sample to identify the effects of income insecurity on decision-making in people with cocaine use disorder (CUD), in the lab of Dr. James Bjork. After graduating, Sarah went to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a UGSP Research Fellow and characterized a progranulin knockout mouse model in the lab of Dr. Alan Koretsky. She returned to her clinical research work in her second year at NIH in the lab of Dr. Vijay Ramchandani, where she worked to understand the relationship between neurological domains underlying Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). At Stanford, Sarah is interested in treating and managing neuropsychiatric disorders and increasing access to participation in clinical research studies. Sarah is a RAISE fellow, a NIDA START Fellow, and an intern project manager for the Recovery Incentives Program.

Amanda Jackson

BioI’ve long been fascinated with volcanoes, and my research interests broadly include igneous petrology, trans-crustal magmatic systems, high temperature geochemistry, and geo/thermochronology. My first PhD project explores the formation of Catalina Island and investigates pluton assembly in continental rift settings. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, reading, yoga, and playing with my cat, Carl.
