Amit Kaushal
Adjunct Professor, Bioengineering
BioDr. Kaushal is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University. He is a respected internal medicine physician with expertise in applications of computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) to medicine and public health. He has worked in roles ranging from deeply technical to deeply clinical, in both academia and industry.
Dr. Kaushal brings over 20 years of research experience at the intersection of computer science and biomedicine. His work focuses on taking AI/ML applications from concept all the way through live clinical deployment, with attention to fair and ethical use of AI. His work has been featured in JAMA, Nature, Lancet Digital Health, NEJM AI, NEJM Catalyst Innovations in Care Delivery, Nature npj Digital Medicine, JAMA Network Open, Health Affairs Blog, and others; and he has been covered in popular media outlets such as Scientific American, Wired, STAT News, The Verge, LA Times, and more.
Dr. Kaushal launched Stanford University School of Engineering's undergraduate degree program in Biomedical Computation over 20 years ago; he serves as co-director of the major, which has graduated over 150 students since its founding. He is a faculty in the Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging, Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, Stanford Clinical Excellence Research Center, and Stanford Partnership for AI-Assisted Care.
Dr. Kaushal practices hospital medicine at VA Palo Alto, where he also serves as inaugural Director of the Amplified Reach Catalyst (ARC) Program, an embedded research-support infrastructure for VA hospitalist clinicians.
Dr. Kaushal has served in executive, operating, and advisory roles in industry.
Dr. Kaushal is board certified in both internal medicine and clinical informatics. He completed his BS (Biomedical Computation), MD, PhD (Biomedical Informatics) and Internal Medicine residency training all at Stanford University. -

BioDr. Mohit Kaushal is an accomplished entrepreneur, investor, and physician with a distinguished career spanning clinical medicine, academia, public policy and industry. He has served as an investor and board member for numerous public and private transformative companies, including Oak Street Health (NYSE: OSH, acquired by CVS Health, NYSE: CVS), Humedica (acquired by Optum, NYSE: UNH), RxAnte (acquired by Millennium), Change Healthcare (acquired by Emdeon), Universal American (NYSE: UAM, acquired by WellCare, NYSE: WCG), goBalto (acquired by Oracle, NYSE: ORCL), CitiusTech (acquired by Baring), Wellframe (acquired by HealthEdge), and George Clinical (acquired by Hillhouse).
During the Obama administration, Dr. Kaushal served on the White House Health IT Task Force, contributing to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act’s technology initiatives and testifying before Congress on the role of technology and payment reform in Medicare. He also established and led the first dedicated healthcare team at the Federal Communications Commission, where his work included partnering with the FDA to streamline regulation of converged telecommunications, analytics, and medical devices, ultimately resulting in the FDA’s mobile medical applications guidance. His team also restructured the Rural Healthcare Fund into the Healthcare Connect Fund, aligning its resources with broader healthcare technology and payment reforms.
In academia, Dr. Kaushal is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University, which integrates AI, biomedical informatics, biostatistics and computer science to advance precision health. His teaching emphasizes the application of data—ranging from molecular and tissue-level information to imaging, EHR, biosensors, and population health—to improve medical outcomes.
He remains active in public policy as a Scholar in Residence at the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy and was previously a Visiting Scholar at the Brookings Institution. His policy work includes previous appointments to the FDASIA Workgroup of the Health IT Policy Committee and the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics, advising HHS on data access and use.
Dr. Kaushal is an emergency physician by training, holds an MBA from Stanford University, and earned his MD with distinction from Imperial College London. -

Mark Kemp

BioAfter joining SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in 2008, Dr. Kemp was an engineer in the Power Conversion and Electrodynamics Departments. Recent activities have included serving as manager of the developmental engineering section, project manager of the SLAC P2 Marx, and technical lead on several pulsed power and RF source projects. He is presently a Senior Staff Scientist at SLAC and is PI on two DARPA funded projects in neutron source and VLF technologies. He is also the Project Manager for a DHS funded project for a high average power linac. He is PI on a DOE funded project for next-generation high efficiency RF sources. He has also served as co-instructor for several years at the US Particle Accelerator School. He has published more than 80 journal and conference papers and has 3 patents.
Dr. Kemp was the treasurer of the 2012 IEEE Power Modulator and High Voltage Conference (IPMHVC), Technical Co-Chair of the 2014 IPMHVC, and General Chair of the 2016 IPMHVC and he currently serves on the executive committee. He is a Senior Member of IEEE. -
