Clinical Professor (By courtesy), Adult NeurologyCurrent Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research interests reside in the field of Neurocritical Care Medicine and stem from my experience developing and directing Stanford's comprehensive Pediatric Neurocritical Care program. I am interested in neuro-prognostication and neuro-monitoring in the pediatric intensive care setting. These interests are integrated clinically to focus on optimal care for pediatric patients with neurologic injury, through specialized nursing and physician care, protocols, and physiologic considerations.

Fayed Rassoulou

BioFayed obtained a PhD in Psychology from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, where he worked in the Institute for Clinical Neuroscience and Medical Psychology under Dr. Jan Hirschmann, and a BSc and MSc in Cognitive Science from Université Lumière Lyon 2, France. His dissertation research combined magnetoencephalography (MEG) and deep brain local field potential (LFP) recordings with machine learning to identify electrophysiological signatures that predict which deep brain stimulation (DBS) contacts will provide the greatest clinical benefit for individuals with Parkinson's disease, with the goal of reducing the time required for clinical DBS programming. His postdoctoral work at Stanford with Dr. Helen Bronte-Stewart focuses on cognitive-motor symptoms, gait impairment, and freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease. He combines subthalamic nucleus LFP dynamics, DBS lead localization, and modeling of the volume of tissue activated by stimulation with deep learning-based decoding to better understand and ultimately improve adaptive deep brain stimulation for gait.

Babak Razavi, MD, PhD

BioDr. Razavi's clinical interests are in medically refractory epilepsies and using high density EEG (electroencephalogram) for better localization of seizure foci. His research areas include using advanced digital signal processing and engineering techniques for analyzing EEG and using seizures as a model for understanding consciousness.
Dr. Razavi is the Founder and Director of DEL - Distributed EEG Lab. DEL's vision is to make EEG easy as 1, 2, 3. We turn complexity into simplicity. We are distributed in time and space. DEL was founded in the spirit of cloud computing, networking, and the notion that research in collaboration is more exciting and fruitful than in isolation. Everyone contributes - no matter how small; everyone wins - no matter how big. It was inspired by the mentorship of Dr. Kimford Meador and Dr. Robert Fisher. All you need is access to a computer and the internet.
DEL is the ideal collaborative environment for students (undergraduate and graduate) and faculty who would like to: (1) apply ready-to-use advanced analytical techniques to test specific hypotheses in cognition, neuroscience and epilepsy, and (2) develop and test new algorithms for analyzing EEG and other biological signals.
