Marina Pouliadi
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioI am a Specialist Counselling Psychologist, with extensive experience in working with adults, adolescents, and children diagnosed with Eating Disorders. I have been trained in a variety of psychological approaches for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge-Eating Disorder, and other non-specified Eating Disorders, during my doctoral studies. My research interests lie within mechanisms of change in evidence-based treatments for this population. I am also investigating helpful and hindering treatment experiences of patients that receive first-line models for the treatment of Eating Disorders. As a Postdoctoral Scholar in the department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, I aim to explore different aspects of parental emotion regulation within the context of Family-Based Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa.

Peter Poullos
Clinical Professor, Radiology
BioDr. Poullos is a native of Stockton California. He earned his B.S. at Santa Clara University and M.D. degree at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, after which he did an Internal Medicine residency at the University of California-San Francisco, finishing in 2002. He stayed at UCSF as a Gastroenterology fellow until 2004. However, after a spinal cord injury, he decided to retrain in Radiology. He did his Radiology residency at Stanford University, where he also completed a fellowship In Body Imaging in 2009. Dr. Poullos is now faculty in both the departments of Radiology and Gastroenterology and Hepatology. His clinical practice is at the Stanford Medicine, where he specializes in CT, MRI, and ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis. His interests include radiology of the acute abdomen, hepatobiliary imaging, and colorectal cancer screening.
Dr. Poullos is the Founder and Co-Chair of the Stanford Medicine Alliance for Disability Inclusion and Equity (SMADIE), a group composed of people with disabilities and their allies at Stanford Medicine. In that role, Dr. Poullos advocates for students and healthcare providers with disabilities and for health equity for disabled patients. He is a Faculty Advisor to the Stanford Medical Students with Disability and Chronic Illness (MSDCI) and the MSDCI National organizations. Dr. Poullos and SMADIE have made significant contributions to the disability community, including starting the Stanford Conference on Disability in Healthcare and Medicine, drawing over 1000 participants from 39 countries. He is the Co-Host of the popular “DocsWithDisabilities” podcast, has spoken internationally about disability access in medicine, and has written and researched in the field. One of his proudest achievements is co-creating the Disability in Medicine Mutual Mentorship Program, serving the needs of disabled medicine and healthcare students and practitioners. In 2022, Dr. Poullos received the Stanford President’s Award for Excellence through Diversity. -
Maggie Poulos
Ph.D. Student in Environment and Resources, admitted Autumn 2023
BioLying at the intersection of marine socioecology and adaptive ocean governance, Maggie is drawn to the puzzle of how to capture an intangible value or worldview for marine protected area management. She studies how biocultural approaches, including indicator development, are mechanisms for the inclusion of localized social and cultural values in marine planning. Through a co-production of knowledge framework and related field research tools, Maggie aims to co-create applied research that makes marine policy a more diverse and equitable space for local and Indigenous communities. Before her time at Stanford, Maggie earned a Master of Public Policy from Duke University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Studies from Macalester College.

Dr. King is also collaborating with Fiona Barwick, PhD, at Stanford’s Sleep Medicine Center, to develop an integrated treatment protocol for improving sleep and chronic pain. With the protocol now complete, Dr. Barwick and Dr. King plan to run the six-session group throughout 2019, collecting pre-treatment, post-treatment and follow-up data to analyze outcomes.

Shirin Pourashraf

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am mainly working on designing high-speed and low-noise/jitter instrumentation, and data acquisition electronics for building a partial ring TOF-PET system to achieve ~100 ps CTR and 50 cm FOV. This means a > 2-fold signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) improvement relative to the best commercially-available PET scanner; ∼214-250 ps CTR Siemens Biograph.
This highly compact TOF-PET system will be integrated to a CT scanner for acquiring both functional and structural information in clinical imaging. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focuses on how environmental conditions affect the interaction between bacteriophages and their bacterial hosts, and their impact on disease. I use mathematical models, and collaborate with lab and field researchers to inform my models. My current study systems include bacterial infections in the lung of patients with cystic fibrosis, and abalone withering syndrome.

His research has included spacecraft pointing, space tether dynamics and control, internal combustion engine control, the design of aerospace digital flight control systems, GPS-based attitude determination augmented with inertial sensors, and the use of GPS for air and land vehicle surveillance and navigation. He taught courses in aerospace control including radio and inertial navigation, optimization and digital implementations and is a coauthor of two of the leading control textbooks. He is also an author or coauthor on over 100 papers.
1998 – present – Emeritus faculty carrying out research in Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford Univ. Recent focus of research is the use of GPS-based attitude determination augmented with inertial sensors, applications of the FAA’s WAAS for enhanced pilot displays, flight inspection of aircraft landing systems, and the use of WAAS and new displays to enable closer spacing of parallel runways.

Johnny G. Powell
MD Student, expected graduation Spring 2028
BioJohnny Powell, from Greensboro, North Carolina, is pursuing an MD at Stanford School of Medicine as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar. He graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a minor in psychology. Johnny aspires to lead medical practice in underserved communities and drive structural change to make health care more accessible at scale. While at Harvard, he led youth mentorship programming in Boston and Japan, conducted research in the natural and social sciences, and shadowed hospital physicians in Spain. As president of the Harvard Black Men’s Forum, Johnny implemented lasting infrastructure to promote public service and inclusion. After graduating, he worked as an associate consultant at Bain & Company on health care and social impact projects. Passionate about health equity, Johnny also served as research coordinator for the All of Us Research Program, a national National Institutes of Health initiative to increase diversity in health care research, at the University of Chicago.

Balaji Prabhakar

BioPrabhakar's research focuses on the design, analysis, and implementation of data networks: both wireline and wireless. He has been interested in designing network algorithms, problems in ad hoc wireless networks, and designing incentive mechanisms. He has a long-standing interest in stochastic network theory, information theory, algorithms, and probability theory.
