Brian Soetikno
Affiliate, Ophthalmology Clinic and Education
BioBrian Soetikno grew up in Union City, CA. He received his BS in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, where he studied biomedical optics under the mentorship of Lihong Wang, PhD. In the summer of 2013, he entered the Medical Scientist (MD/PhD) Training Program at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, IL. He completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2018 under the combined mentorship of Amani Fawzi, MD and Hao Zhang, PhD, which focused on retinal imaging. Specifically, his dissertation described advances in functional optical coherence tomography (OCT), including retinal oximetry with visible-light OCT and OCT angiography. He graduated with his MD in 2020 and joined the Stanford Ophthalmology Advance Research (SOAR) residency. Brian aspires to ultimately pursue a career in academic ophthalmology, where he hopes to combine his passion for engineering, innovation, and ocular surgery.

Elsa Sola
Instructor, Medicine - Gastroenterology & Hepatology
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsCirrhosis is a common condition and is associated with recurrent complications. Therapeutic options are limited and the management of complications has been similar for the past decades. The only definitive treatment is liver transplantation; however, this is limited by the number of organs and the risk of complications on the waiting list. Patients with cirrhosis present with profound immune disturbances, but to date there are no therapeutic strategies to restore immune responses.
Dr Sola’s research interest if focused on understanding the mechanisms of immune dysfunction in cirrhosis to guide the development of future therapeutic options. With her research background in Hepatology and Immunology, Dr Sola is using novel techniques to improve the understanding of cirrhosis progression. She is leveraging her skills in human organoids to develop cirrhosis-derived immune organoids as a platform for investigating mechanisms of immune dysfunction and screening new therapeutic options. -
Guillermo Solano-Flores
Professor of Education
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsCurrent research projects examine academic language and testing, formative assessment practices for culturally diverse science classrooms, and the design and use of illustrations in international test comparisons and in the testing of English language learners.

Cristian Felipe Soler Reyes
Lecturer, Civic, Liberal, and Global Education
BioCristian Felipe Soler Reyes received a Ph.D. in Latin American and Iberian Studies from Stanford University in 2023. His research looks at different Latin American art forms (painting, sculpture, cinema, literature, etc.) from the last 30 years with a transnational, cross-cultural, and transdisciplinary lens.
Cristian also created and chairs the research group “Comics: More than Words,” which has become a hub for interdisciplinary thought and for diversity. Students from different backgrounds come together in this space to learn from each other and to share their different perspectives. -
Olav Solgaard
Audrey S. Hancock Professor in the School of Engineering
BioThe Solgaard group focus on design and fabrication of nano-photonics and micro-optical systems. We combine photonic crystals, optical meta-materials, silicon photonics, and MEMS, to create efficient and reliable systems for communication, sensing, imaging, and optical manipulation.
