    BioHe is currently a Professor of Medicine at Stanford where he serves as the Section Chief of Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support. He sees patients both in the clinic and in the hospital who have advanced heart failure or who have received cardiac transplantation or mechanical circulatory support.

    His research interests are in clinical outcomes in patients after transplant and mechanical support as well as novel approaches to immunosuppression. He has participated in many single-center and multi-institutional research studies and has published widely in the fields of transplant and mechanical support. He served as President of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation in 2018.

    BioMs. Lindsay Thomas earned her BA in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley in 2003 and her RN and MS from UCSF in 2006 and 2009 respectively. She completed a Double Master’s in Cardiovascular Nursing and Genomics and is a board certified clinical nurse specialist in critical care nursing. She joined the Stanford Interventional Cardiology Team in 2011 where she has pioneered the advanced practice nursing role in the cath lab and been a leader in the development of the Left Atrial Appendage Closure program. She serves as adjunct faculty for the UCSF graduate nursing program and is the co-chair of the Northern California Chapter of the Preventative Cardiovascular Nurses Association. Lindsay specializes in treating and caring for patients with established coronary artery disease and cardiovascular risk factors; she strives to provide excellent patient care and education to optimize a heart healthy life style to promote wellness with use of medications and invasive procedures when life style alone is not enough to achieve desired results. When not working Lindsay is an outdoor and exercise enthusiast, who enjoys participating in various endurance activities and has completed several triathlons. She also enjoys reading and discussions with her book club, going to the theater, and spending quality time with her friends and family.

    BioI’m passionate about the many intersections between health, technology, and behavior. Specifically with how wearable devices and mobile technologies can be leveraged to measure and promote better health outcomes across all populations. After earning my BS in Kinesiology, I have formed a strong analytical background in wearable technology and health through my involvement in numerous clinical health studies and research projects. To supplement my interest, I have had multiple academic pieces accepted by Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (MSSE) and The Journal for the Measurement of Physical Behaviour (ISMPB).

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Tremmel studies sex differences in cardiovascular disease. Current research projects include evaluating sex differences in coronary pathophysiology, young patients presenting with myocardial infarction, the impact of stress on anginal symptoms, chronic total coronary occlusions, and vascular access site complications.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur primary interests are in the molecular underpinnings of vascular disease as well as assessing disease risk. In addition to targeted investigation of specific signaling molecules, we utilize global genomic analysis to identify gene expression networks and regulatory units. We are particularly interested in the role of microRNAs in gene expression pathways associated with disease.

    BioDr. Tso is a board-certified cardiologist with the Sports Cardiology Program and the Center for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease. He serves as medical director of the Sports Cardiology Program and is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    As a noninvasive cardiologist with clinical expertise in sports cardiology, Dr. Tso specializes in treating physically active patients. He cares for recreational weekend warriors, elite and professional athletes, and all those in between.

    He has experience caring for athletes from professional sports teams and multiple National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I universities. Dr. Tso currently performs cardiac screening and consultations for Bay Area professional sports teams and the NCAA Division I athletes of Stanford University Athletics.

    Dr. Tso’s research interests include cardiovascular health and adaptation in athletes. He has spent years studying American-style football players and Masters endurance athletes. He has presented his research at multiple national meetings, including the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions, American Heart Association Scientific Sessions, and the national meeting of the Heart Failure Society of America.

    Dr. Tso’s research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of the American Heart Association, the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, and the British Journal of Sports Medicine. He also regularly serves as a reviewer for several cardiology and sports medicine journals.

    BioLaurens van de Wiel is Dutch scientist from Berghem, The Netherlands. Laurens spent his undergrad in Software Development (BSc, Avans Hogeschool ‘s-Hertogenbosch) and Computing Science (MSc, Radboud University Nijmegen). Laurens continued his career at a start-up, where he created large-scale, real-time analytical software. Laurens continued on his academic trajectory at the Radboudumc in Nijmegen, where he started his PhD in bioinformatics.

    During his PhD, Laurens integrated genetic data with protein 3D structures and protein domains. He utilized the skills he obtained before setting out on his academic trajectory; building large-scale, robust, reliable software. Exemplified by the MetaDome Web server (https://stuart.radboudumc.nl/metadome/). During his PhD, he developed novel methodologies for the interpretation of genetic variants of unknown clinical significance and, by integrating structural and evolutionary biology with genomics, Laurens identified 36 novel disease-gene associations for developmental disorders. These discoveries enabled diagnosis for over 500 families worldwide.

    Laurens’ areas of expertise are (bioinformatic) software development, data integration of genetic variation with other omics, and his research aims are:
    1.) Lessons long-learned in computer science aid computational biology
    2.) Multi-omic data integration allows the impact measurement of genetic variation
    3.) Diagnosing undiagnosed disorders will uncover novel insights into biology.
    4.) International and multidisciplinary collaborations are key in diagnosing rare disorders.

    At Stanford University, under guidance of Dr. Matthew Wheeler, he is conducting his postdoctoral studies in line with his research aims.

    BioDr. Anubodh Sunny Varshney is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the fellowship program in the section of Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant Cardiology, and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Stanford. In addition to caring for patients with advanced heart disease, he is also an Investigator in the Cardiovascular Outcomes, Policy, & Implementation Research Group (https://www.copirgroup.com/) where he works to identify patient groups that have ongoing unmet medical needs, define benchmark outcomes that next generation therapies should improve upon, and understand factors that influence adoption of novel drug and device therapies.

    Dr. Varshney earned a BS in biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and an MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School and fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant Cardiology, and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Stanford University.

    Dr. Varshney also has experience advising multiple medical device, drug, and digital health start-ups and currently serves as a Venture Advisor at Broadview Ventures, a philanthropically-funded, mission-driven investment organization that invests in early-stage companies developing technologies that have the potential to improve outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease or stroke.
