He is currently working as a Board Certified Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Physician at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC), San Jose. – a county hospital that serves as a teaching site for Stanford residents and fellows. He holds an appointment of Clinical Associate Professor (affiliated) at Stanford University School of Medicine due to his involvement in training of pulmonary and critical medicine fellows.
His professional interests include point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and medical education. He is certified in Critical Care Echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) and teaches residents and fellows POCUS in the ICU and on the pulmonary consult service.

Harmeet Bedi

BioDr. Harmeet Bedi is the Director of Interventional Pulmonology & Bronchoscopy at Stanford University. His expertise is in minimally invasive techniques used in the diagnosis and treatment of various airway and lung diseases such as lung cancer, benign & malignant airway obstruction, and pleural diseases. He specializes in rigid & flexible bronchoscopy, robotic bronchoscopy, airway stent placement, balloon bronchoplasty, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and various pleural procedures. He also specializes in a variety of tumor ablative therapies including laser therapy, electrocautery, argon plasma coagulation (APC), brachytherapy, and cryotherapy.
He founded the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) - guided bronchoscopy program at Stanford in 2019. CBCT-guided bronchoscopy is a novel and cutting-edge technique which combines bronchoscopy with CT imaging, allowing for improved localization and diagnosis of peripheral lung nodules. Additionally, CBCT-guided bronchoscopy will allow for numerous potential cancer therapies that are currently under development.
Dr. Bedi is a principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple clinical trials related to bronchoscopy, thoracic imaging, pulmonary nodules, and lung cancer. Specifically, he has multiple research interests within the realm of bronchoscopic device innovation and CBCT-guided bronchoscopy. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research involves studying the pathogenic mechanisms underlying the host-pathogen interaction in pulmonary diseases. I am particularly interested in exploring transcriptomic and proteomic changes in Cystic Fibrosis and Asthma patients who develop severe allergic inflammation due to fungal hypersensitivity. Complete understanding of these interaction will help us identify significant fungal virulence factors and help us define clinically relevant targets for therapeutic use.

BioDr. Chen is a double board-certified, fellowship-trained specialist in allergy and immunology and internal medicine. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.
With training in pediatric and adult allergy/immunology, Dr. Chen provides expertise in chronic urticaria, angioedema, drug allergy, severe asthma, food allergy and allergic rhinitis. She excels at addressing the impact of allergies on quality of life and productivity. Driven by a desire to help people and deliver exceptional care, Dr. Chen takes great pride in the effectiveness and efficiency of her services, her attention to detail, and the excellent patient satisfaction scores she earns. She has trained and worked in a broad range of clinical care settings, including private practice, the Veterans Administration, major health systems, and academic medical centers, like Stanford Health Care.
Dr. Chen has extensive research experience, from study start-up to manuscript preparation. Dr. Chen has authored numerous scholarly publications on topics including urticaria, angioedema and food allergies. She has presented the findings of her research to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Annual Scientific Meeting and other conferences. Her work has appeared in the journals Pediatric Allergy; the Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; JAMA; as well as book chapters on immunology. Dr. Chen has received honors and awards for her scholarship. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; and, the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Foundation of Northern California.
Dr. Chen’s academic passion is medical education and fostering the growth of medical trainees. She is particularly interested in harnessing the power of coaching to promote self-efficacy and wellness in medicine. She serves as the Well-Being Director for the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine and also as a Faculty Coach in the School of Medicine’s Student Guidance Program. -

BioKaïssa de Boer, MD is a board certified pulmonologist who specializes in the care of patients with interstitial lung disease. She completed her Internal Medicine and Pulmonary training at the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada where her initial interest in caring for patients with fibrotic lung disease first developed. Subsequently she completed a fellowship in Interstitial Lung Disease at the University of California, San Francisco under the direction of Dr. Harold Collard. Dr. de Boer has a special interest in patients with connective tissue disease associated lung disease and those with drug induced pneumonitis. In addition she is actively involved in the ILD training and program development of Stanford's Pulmonary Allergy and Critical Care Fellows.

Lauren E. Eggert, MD

BioDr. Eggert is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pulmonologist and a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.
She is an expert in the diagnosis and management of diseases of the airway, with a focus on patients with allergic asthma. She also treats chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), and chronic cough.
For every patient, Dr. Eggert develops a comprehensive care plan personalized to the individual’s unique needs and lifestyle. Her goals are always to deliver innovative, compassionate care of the highest quality to help each patient achieve the best possible outcome and quality of life.
Dr. Eggert has extensive research experience. During her fellowship, she worked closely with the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University, where she designed projects to study the use of biologic medications to treat severe asthma, ABPA, and related conditions.
Dr. Eggert has authored review articles on asthma in adults for BMJ Best Practice. She has developed abstracts related to the prediction of asthma outcomes and switching and combining biologic therapies for asthma. She has presented her work at the American Thoracic Society and the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology annual meetings.
She is currently involved in several COVID-19 related research projects, including a study of the impact of COVID-19 on outcomes for asthmatic patients and another on the use of pulse oximeters to predict clinical decline after COVID-19 diagnosis.
Dr. Eggert also practices critical care at Stanford Health Care - ValleyCare and is actively engaged in teaching residents and fellows. She precepts both the Stanford Pulmonary Consult Service and the fellow’s clinics. -

Kenzo Ichimura

BioMy long-term goal as a physician-scientist is to develop therapeutic strategies for right heart failure by elucidating its pathophysiology.
I graduated from Kyushu University, School of Medicine in Fukuoka, Japan in 2008. Following a residency program at Aso Iizuka Hospital, I finished fellowship in Emergency Medicine (1 year) and Cardiovascular Medicine (2 years). My clinical expertise is general cardiology, cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, and cardiac critical care.
After my clinical training, I started my research career working towards a Ph.D. under the mentorship of Dr. Kensuke Egashira. During my Ph.D., I published two papers focusing on the development of novel therapeutics for acute myocardial infarction and pulmonary arterial hypertension. Through this research experience, I developed skills in modeling and assessing cardiovascular disease in both small (rodents) and large animals (pigs)
In 2017, I was appointed as an Assistant Professor and attending physician in the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine at Kyushu University Hospital. During this period, I learned that right heart failure was one of the most devastating conditions with no treatment options in patients with pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart disease, and patients on long-term mechanical ventricular assist devices. I also continued my research with a research grant funded by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science.
In 2019, I decided to further expand my research field into right heart failure and joined Dr. Edda Spiekerkoetter’s lab at Stanford University as a postdoctoral fellow. I am currently focusing on the role of BMPR2 in the cardiomyocytes, the structural changes in the right ventricle under pressure overload, and the development of right ventricle-targeting therapy in pulmonary hypertension. -

BioDr. Andrea Jonas is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University. She completed her undergraduate studies in chemistry and physics at Harvard University. She received her MD from Johns Hopkins University, where she stayed on to complete residency training in internal medicine on the Osler Medical Service. She pursued fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Stanford University, where she additionally completed a research fellowship in health care innovation and systems design as part of the Clinical Excellence Research Center. I completed my MD-PhD training at Yale University and my residency training and a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Genetics at Stanford University. My experiences as a clinical pathologist and genome scientist have made me passionate about applying cutting-edge technologies to primary patient specimens in order to characterize disease pathologies at the molecular level. Deborah J Levine, MD, FCCP, FAST

BioDr. Deborah Jo Levine is a board-certified pulmonologist and lung transplantation and pulmonary hypertension specialist. She is a clinical professor of medicine in the Department of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Levine also serves as director of lung transplant outreach for Stanford Health Care.
Dr. Levine is internationally recognized for her work in lung transplantation and pulmonary hypertension (PH). She has been instrumental in developing international guidelines for defining, diagnosing, and managing antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) after lung transplantation. She has served as chair of pulmonary AMR guidelines for the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
Dr. Levine’s research interests include lung allograft monitoring and risk assessment. Her research has also included monitoring lung allograft health using donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA)—a technique pioneered at Stanford Medicine. She has received National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding as a clinical investigator. Dr. Levine is a co-chair of the ALAMO (AlloSure Lung Assessment and Metagenomics Outcomes) Study national registry. She has been involved in many clinical trials in lung transplantation and pulmonary hypertension.
As a respected educator and researcher, Dr. Levine has led and contributed to dozens of abstracts, presentations, and peer-reviewed articles. She has also written several books and book chapters on pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary vascular disorders, and lung transplantation.
Dr. Levine is editor-in-chief for Advances in Pulmonary Hypertension, the quarterly journal of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. She is an editorial board member of The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation and an ad hoc reviewer for several other industry journals. Dr. Levine also serves as a grant reviewer and section study reviewer for the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Society of Transplantation.
Dr . Levine is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Society of Transplantation. She is also the chair of the Diffuse Lung Disease and Lung Transplant Network and the incoming vice chair of the Council of Networks for the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST). -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focuses on the physiolgogic and biomarker characteristics of early acute lung injury (ALI) prior to need for mechanical ventilation. While, to date no pharmacologic treatment has improved survival in ALI, following the paradigm of early goal directed therapy for severe sepsis, clinical benefit may derive from identifying patients and initiating treatment prior to the need for positive pressure ventilation (and therefore prior to meeting current study entry criteria).

Anne Liu

She is also a clinical associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Liu treats infections in patients with compromised immune systems, whether due to a primary immune deficiency or a condition like cancer or organ transplant. She helps patients to develop tolerance to medications they are allergic to so that they can receive the best, and sometimes the only, treatments available to them. She also treats allergies to antibiotics, aspirin, NSAIDs, chemotherapy, and more. She sees patients both long term and for urgent referrals, such as in cases of perioperative anaphylaxis. Dr. Liu also helps pediatric patients manage drug and food allergies.
One of Dr. Liu’s areas of focus is helping patients with allergies to antibiotics determine when they have lost an allergy, what antibiotics they can tolerate, and when to induce tolerance to an antibiotic. This not only can benefit the patient, but also have a positive public health impact, as labeling patients with a penicillin allergy may negatively affect their care and increase use
of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
She collaborates closely with colleagues from other disciplines, including pulmonology, otolaryngology, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, anesthesiology, and surgery. Her key objective in working with referring physicians is to help them safely deliver the best care for their patients.
For patients and families, Dr. Liu strives to help them navigate their care journey with as much ease and dignity as possible during what may be the most challenging time of their life. Her goal is to offer patients options, even when it may appear that they have no options left.
Dr. Liu’s research interests include optimizing care of patients with antibiotic allergies, including through use of decision support tools.
Dr. Liu has authored articles in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Immunology, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in Practice, Clinical and Experimental Allergy, Mucosal Immunology, Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Science, and other publications. Dr. Liu authored the book chapter “Hypersensitivity Reactions to Monoclonal Antibodies” in Drug Allergy Testing.
Dr. Liu is certified in infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in allergy and immunology by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. She is also a member of the American College of Physicians, Infectious Diseases Society of America, and American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
She has given presentations on antibiotic allergies, drug desensitization, and aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, among other topics. Dr. Liu’s honors include recognition from the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology, the American Medical Women’s Association, and the National Institutes of Health. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAt Stanford University I developed and currently direct the CF Translational Research Center. The overarching goal of the center is to provide the groundwork to streamline, accelerate, and promote the translation of basic discoveries into effective therapies and interventions to benefit patients affected by cystic fibrosis. My clinical research interests have been in the field of critical care medicine and ARDS, a type of acute respiratory failure seen commonly in patients with severe injuries or illnesses. I also have a particular interest in evaluating and improving processes for care. Issues like standardizing processes to improve reliability, improving safety of handoffs, and exploring ways to teach "roundsmanship" (the process of discussing patients' care with a group of providers) are current interests of mine.
The future of medical care depends on training the next generation of providers, and I'm thankful to be part of training this next generation. Teaching at the bedside or in formal classroom settings gives me great joy and satisfaction. I'm delighted to work with a great, multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists. I add to that team our patients and families, for it truly takes a team to provide care that is both excellent and compassionate. -

Rishi Raj

BioDr. Rishi Raj is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Stanford University, where he directs the Interstitial Lung Disease program. He has practiced pulmonary and critical care medicine for over two decades and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of interstitial lung diseases.
His primary clinical interest encompasses a range of interstitial lung diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, other idiopathic interstitial lung diseases, drug-induced interstitial lung diseases, interstitial lung disease associated with connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, dermatomyositis, sarcoidosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and other various interstitial lung diseases.
Dr. Raj's clinical research explores the use of radiologic biomarkers to predict outcomes in various interstitial lung diseases. Clinical Associate Professor, Medicine - Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine
BioDr. Meghan Ramsey is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania with a major in Neuroscience. She then attended Stanford University for medical school where she stayed to complete her internal medicine residency, and pulmonary/critical care fellowship. Her clinical time is split between the inpatient setting in the medical ICU and the ambulatory setting in Interventional Pulmonology with a focus on thoracic malignancies. Outside of her clinical time she has a dedicated commitment to teaching, serving as a mentor for residents and fellows, as well as leading as a co-director the pulmonary physiology course for medical students.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am interested in the prevention and control of critical care-related illnesses and complications, including ventilator-associated pneumonia, spread of nosocomial infections, and prognosis of multiple organ system failure in intensive care units. Infections and complications of therapy in immunocompromised hosts, including effects of chemotherapy and hematopoetic stem cell transplants is another interest.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe use genetics and genomics methodologies to identify novel ARDS pathobiology; we hope that this will enable identification of novel biomarkers, phenotypes, and treatments for the disease. We are building a plasma biobank of critically ill patients at Stanford, with a particular focus on metabolic changes in critical illness.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur laboratory examines apoptotic and cell signaling pathways in cancer and lung disease. We are studying signaling pathways that regulate oxidative stress responses and cancer cell growth. Part of these studies focus on analysis of non-canonical transcription regulatory functions of the TERC and Tert components of telomerase in lung disease and cancer.

On Partial Leave from 06/01/2024 To 08/31/2024Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe have an active collaborative project examining basic and clinical aspects of non-tuberculous mycobacterial lung infection in non-immune compromised adults. Studies have examined possible cellular immune mechanisms for increased susceptibility to these infections, and are also investigating aspects of optimal diagnosis and treatment. In addition, a clinical and translational research program is investigating the causes and genetic factors underlying the evolution of bronchiectasis.

BioI am a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine in Stanford University School of Medicine. My practice includes a Lung Graft-versus-Host-Disease (GVHD) Clinic for patients with pulmonary complications after life-saving hematopoietic cell transplant. Our clinic is part of a Lung GVHD Consortium comprising Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, University of Michigan, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. In this context I am the site co-Principal Investigator for two national clinical trials through the Lung GVHD Consortium that are funded by the National Institutes of Health, one studying the association of respiratory viruses with Lung GVHD and a second studying the diagnostic and prognostic utility of quantitative CT scans of the chest for Lung GVHD. Separately, I see patients with pulmonary complications of infection from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), including "Long COVID". I also see patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). My research applies advanced computational analysis to clinical metadata and quantitative imaging data, domains that draw on my graduate level education and postdoctoral training in engineering and bioinformatics. I strive to fuse detailed, communicative patient care with the advances of data science in medicine that I research and study.
