Shraman Kar

BioShraman is passionate about building technology projects using artificial intelligence and state-of-the-art large language models to solve problems of the community and the environment. Shraman's passion project, Foodle (www.thefoodle.org) built on technology and artificial intelligence could make a difference in solving hunger and food waste at the same time. He wanted to share his knowledge and ideas with as many youths as possible so that together they can build technology products for the communities.
To unleash the potential of AI for social good Shraman cofounded a 501(c)(3) organization Community AI (www.thecommunityai.org) in the year 2000. They created a customized course of Machine Learning suitable for a wide range of school-going youth and delivered via free camps. The camps became very popular and they could mentor students from 58 countries and all 50 US states. The members have several projects to help the community and the environment- ranging from automatic trash segregation to detecting wildfire before it happens and many more. To encourage more students to build AI-driven projects we provided funds/prizes via the AI Fair called Sustainability and Community AI Fair (www.communityaifair.com). -
Nora Kassner

BioNora Kassner (she/they) is a career-track Lecturer in the Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stanford University. Educated at the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Ph.D. in history and a concentration in feminist studies, Nora’s research explores the operation of race, gender, and sexuality in 20th century U.S. child welfare policy. Her dissertation, “Hard to Place: Gay and Lesbian Foster Families and the Remaking of U.S. Family Policy,” won the 2024 John D’Emilio award for the best dissertation in U.S. LGBTQ studies from the Organization of American Historians. Nora is currently in the process of adapting this dissertation into a monograph. Prior to their academic career, Nora worked as a community organizer, and a commitment to public engagement remains central to their work.

Embarking on my journey, I'm proudly joining the esteemed Stanford University as a member of the undergraduate class of '27. As I step into the realm of higher education, I'm eagerly poised to explore the realms of mathematics and computer science, both of which captivate my fervent interest.
Diving deep into my academic pursuits, I've been immersed in several enthralling research papers within the realm of mathematics. I take immense delight in blending the worlds of numbers and algorithms, where computer science plays a pivotal role. One such fascinating area I've delved into is Benford's law, uncovering its intricate connections to the digital realm.
Looking ahead, my aspirations soar as I strive to advance my research endeavors at Stanford, harnessing the incredible opportunities provided by programs such as SURIM and CURIS. These initiatives hold the promise of propelling my passion to new heights, enabling me to unravel more mysteries and push the boundaries of knowledge.

Suchismito Khatua

Grad Writing Tutor, Hume CenterBioIf art is contingent rather than necessary, and often distinct from lived experience, how can it be mobilized to effect political change? In broaching this question, Suchismito Khatua’s research girdles the idea of the avant-garde, and its many figurations in a transnational and translational frame. Thus far, Smito has studied, presented, and published on the theory of the avant-garde, modernist “minor”/ “underground” literary cultures in the Bangla, Hindi, and Marathi languages, and concomitant histories of far-left militancy in post-independence India. His current interests span the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, histories of labor, subalternity, and resistance, theories of affect and sexuality, psychoanalysis, and translation.
Smito was formerly affiliated with the Centre for English Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, where he worked as a UGC Research Fellow and Undergraduate Course Instructor. In 2022, he was a visiting fellow in the research cluster “Temporal Communities: Doing Literature in a Global Perspective” and the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School at Freie Universität Berlin.
Much of Smito’s thinking on living, and love, sweeps along a scissored trajectory of anarcho-communism and intersectional, anti-assimilationist queer politics. Poetry sustains him. -
Joseph Kidney
COLLEGE Lecturer
BioJoseph Kidney is a Lecturer for Civic, Liberal, and Global Education (COLLEGE). He received a PhD in English Literature from Stanford University in 2024. An early modernist, his work looks at sixteenth-century literature, particularly drama, against the backdrop of the European and English Reformations. His dissertation examined the sometimes complementary, sometimes contradictory projects of Reformation and Renaissance as they drastically reshaped intellectual culture and gave rise to new forms of vernacular literature. In this project and elsewhere, he has a particular interest in classical reception, rhetorical theory, early modern humanism, Renaissance comedy, and the cultural transformations regarding attitudes to the dead.
His academic publications include work on the dramatists Nicholas Udall, William Shakespeare, and John Webster, drawing on early modern thought ranging from theology to proto-scientific treatises. Other work supplements these historicist approaches with twentieth- and twenty-first-century methodologies derived from queer theory, considerations of metatheatre, and genre theory. He has also published on pedagogy, articulating strategies for teaching old plays in modern classrooms. He has taught, as instructor of record, classes on Shakespeare and on Renaissance Literature, and served as a teaching assistant for literary surveys from Beowulf to Jane Austen, as well as for Poetry and Poetics. He has worked as an assistant editor for the Stanford Global Shakespeare Encyclopedia and as a Graduate Coordinator for Stanford's Renaissances working group.
Outside of academia, he has received numerous awards for poetry, including, most recently, the Grand Prize in Arc Poetry Magazine's Poem of the Year contest. His poems have appeared, among other places, in Best Canadian Poetry 2024 and been nominated for a National Magazine Award. A full length debut will appear in March 2025. -
