    Mansur Arief

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Aeronautics and Astronautics

    BioI am a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford Intelligent Systems Lab (SISL). I received my Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon in 2023 and a master's degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Much of my work combines machine learning and rare-event theories to efficiently simulate rare catastrophic events. The applications of this line of work include the accelerated testing of intelligent systems. Currently, I am working on AI for safety and sustainability projects, which merge efficient simulation frameworks with optimization and decision-making algorithms.

  • Roya Firoozi

    Roya Firoozi

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Aeronautics and Astronautics

    BioRoya is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, Multi-Robot Systems Laboratory. She received her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and her Ph.D. in control theory, with minors in optimization and machine learning from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on enabling safe robot autonomy powered by generative AI in interactive, open-world environments. Roya has received the NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, the UC Berkeley Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award, and the UC Berkeley Chancellor’s Award. She was recognized as a rising star in EECS and Aerospace Engineering. Outside of her research, she has served as the robotics mentor at Stanford AI4ALL outreach program that aims to increase diversity in artificial intelligence.

    Saman Farhangdoust

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Aeronautics and Astronautics

    BioDr. Saman Farhangdoust is pursuing the goal of using his interdisciplinary knowledge to advance the Smart City and Space concept and make a lasting impact on society. He enjoys venturing into new disciplines to combine cutting-edge technologies and develop novel solutions to today’s structural safety problems.

    As a Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University, Saman works on multi-functional materials and smart structures with particular emphases on intelligent self-sensing diagnostics and integrated health management for space and aircraft structures.

    Outside of his research at Stanford, Saman is collaborating with MIT Media Lab as a Technical Consultant and also with Boeing Research and Technology as a Research Consultant to advance sensing and structural health monitoring systems.

    Saman is considered a talented young researcher who has made valuable multidisciplinary contributions at an international level. These research activities have led to more than 40 publications including journal articles, conference proceedings, a textbook, U.S. Patents, national reports and guidelines to date.

    Carlos Gonzalez Hernandez

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsHe has worked on high-speed flows and wall-bounded turbulence. In particular, he is interested in the application of quasilinear and generalized quasilinear approximations to the study of wall-bounded turbulent flows. At Stanford, he works on hypersonics and data-driven methods, among others.

  • Tara Yasmin Mina

    Tara Yasmin Mina

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Aeronautics and Astronautics

    BioTara Mina obtains her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. She received her Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign in 2019 and her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in 2017, with summa cum laude honors. For her doctoral thesis, Tara researches strategies to advance the next-generation Global Positioning System (GPS) signal capabilities. Her research focuses on secure, attack-resilient position, navigation, and timing as well as designing new spreading codes for the future GPS signals. She has also been involved with research for designing satellite-based navigation and timing to enable future lunar exploration missions.

    As of August 2023, Tara has 22 research publications, including 7 published or accepted journal papers, and a coverpage magazine article. She has also won several awards for her graduate research, including the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship, the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship, and 4 Best Presentation of the Session awards. Outside of her research work, Tara has won 2 student teaching awards, including the Centennial Teaching Assistant Award and the AIAA Best Course Assistant Award. She also currently serves as the co-president of Stanford’s Engineering Students for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and has also won the Community Impact Award for her leadership, outreach, and volunteering efforts within the student group.

  • Yusuke Yamashita

    Yusuke Yamashita

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Aeronautics and Astronautics

    BioYusuke Yamashita is a Postdoctoral Researcher of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University. He received a Ph.D. and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering and a Graduate Certificate in Engineering from the University of Tokyo, and B.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Osaka Prefecture University. He obtained fellowship as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. His interests include electric propulsion, low-temperature plasmas, microwave and plasma interaction, and computational plasma physics. He received Second place award in student competition at International Electric Propulsion Conference, and Japanese Rocket Society Award at 33rd International Symposium on Space Technology and Science.
