Tobias Xiao Dong

BioTobias Dong, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine and Stanford School of Medicine. He obtained his MD/PhD from the University of California, Irvine, with his PhD thesis in Immunology. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Southern California, before joining the Oncology Hospitalist program at Stanford in its inaugural year. His past research work has been in imaging calcium signaling dynamics in T cell function, in particular that of regulatory T cells, as well as the creation of a transgenic mouse model with a genetically encoded calcium indicator. His current interests include inpatient oncology care, cancer mortality, and medical education.

Zachary B. Dozier

BioZach Butzin-Dozier is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Clinical Informatics, with a joint appointment in the Department of Medicine, Division of Computational Medicine. His research applies machine learning and artificial intelligence for causal inference via electronic health record data. He draws from large-scale databases, such as Epic Cosmos, PEDSnet, and the National Clinical Cohort Collaborative, to answer pressing questions in pediatric and infectious disease medicine. His research evaluates vaccine effectiveness, drug repurposing, and the long-term sequelae of viral infection, including Long COVID. He aims to bridge rigorous biostatistical methodology with clinically meaningful research questions. He received his PhD in Epidemiology and MPH from UC Berkeley, and he is an NIAID K01 recipient.

Tamara Dunn
Clinical Associate Professor, Medicine - Hematology
BioDr. Tamara Dunn is a clinical associate professor in the Division of Hematology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She is a clinician with a special interest in medical education, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Specifically, she is committed to improving workforce diversity and creating inclusive workplaces. She is currently the Program Director for the Stanford Hematology/Oncology Fellowship and one of the Associate Chairs of Diversity and Inclusion for the Department of Medicine at Stanford. She is a member of the inaugural American Society of Hematology (ASH) Ambassador Cohort and serves on the ASH Women in Hematology committee, which she co-chairs. She is on the steering committee and is a mentor for Stanford’s Leadership Education in Advancing Diversity (LEAD) program. She takes pride in treating underserved veterans at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital, where she sees both classical and malignant hematology. Outside of medicine she enjoys singing, dancing, sports (Go Chiefs! Go Warriors!), board games, movies, and spending time with friends and family including her 3 young children, spouse, and energetic vizsla Casey.

Mary Laurence Dunne

BioDr. Mimi Dunne is a physician leader in palliative and emergency medicine with a longstanding commitment to innovation in end-of-life care and medical education. A 2019-2020 Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute Fellow, Dr. Dunne has co-taught MED 296: Being Mortal at Stanford University School of Medicine.
A graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, she completed postgraduate training at the University of Chicago, certification in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at the University of Massachusetts, and is board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. As Medical Director of Hudson Valley Hospice, she founded the region’s first palliative care program in 2001.
Her scholarly work spans emergency medicine, palliative medicine, and global health, and she has authored studies, articles, and book chapters in these fields. She currently serves as an advisor to the African Center for Research in End of Life Care in Rwanda and to Bulamu Health Care in Uganda. -

Dr. Durant provides complete primary care for people of all ages, with a strong focus on health equity and supporting underserved communities. His clinical interests include outpatient care, prenatal and reproductive health, and treating substance use disorders. He has extensive experience in street medicine and mobile outreach to care for people experiencing homelessness. Asiri Ediriwickrema MD, PhD

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe study hematopoiesis which is the complex process of producing blood cells that are essential for maintaining our basic health and well being. Our mission is to learn how these individual cells change as people age and develop cancer. Blood cell production is driven by the hematopoietic stem cell which gives rise to an incredible diversity of cells throughout life. Our research focuses on how dysregulation of this process leads to cytopenias and hematologic malignancies. We have expertise that spans clinical medicine, functional hematology, molecular and cellular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, and machine learning. By integrating advanced experimental and computational methods, we are examining blood cell development and function at single-cell resolution to advance patient diagnostics and treatment.

Goar Egoryan

BioI am a Clinical Assistant Professor and oncology hospitalist in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. I care for patients with solid tumors admitted with complex, high-acuity conditions, including cancer-related complications, treatment toxicities, infections, malnutrition, and end-of-life care, making complex clinical decisions and navigating high-stakes situations with patients and families, often integrating input from multiple consulting teams.
I received my Doctor of Medicine degree summa cum laude from Novosibirsk State Medical University and completed a two-year rheumatology fellowship in Russia, a specialty defined by multiorgan complexity and the search for systemic connections. I later moved to the United States, where I completed an internal medicine residency at Ascension Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL. During residency, I was named Intern of the Year, received the Great Catch Award for identifying and correcting a patient care error, served as Chief Resident in my third year, and contributed to over 20 publications, half as first author.
My early training in rheumatology, a field centered on systemic disease and pattern recognition, continues to shape how I approach complex illness and informs my interest in integrative medicine. In my current practice, I already incorporate elements of integrative medicine by considering lifestyle, behavioral, and psychosocial factors alongside medical management when caring for complex patients. My current academic interest centers on bringing evidence-based integrative medicine into the inpatient oncology setting. I was recently awarded a Stanford SMART-HM grant to pursue formal training in integrative medicine and to develop a care model that addresses the needs of hospitalized oncology patients beyond disease-directed treatment, including symptom burden and psychological distress. My long-term aim is to expand this approach to broader hospitalized populations while improving patient experience and clinical outcomes. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur basic research program focuses on understanding the roles of virus-host interactions in viral infection and disease pathogenesis. This program is combined with translational efforts to apply this knowledge for the development of broad-spectrum host-centered antiviral approaches to combat emerging viral infections, including dengue, encephalitic alphaviruses, coronaviruses, and filoviruses, and means to predict disease progression.

Matthew A. Eisenberg

BioDr. Matthew A. Eisenberg joined Stanford Health Care in early 2013 and is the Medical Informatics Director for Analytics & Innovation with a focus on interoperability and health information exchange, regulatory reporting, health care analytics, patient reported outcomes and other uses of technology to meet our strategic initiatives.
Dr. Eisenberg is board certified in Pediatrics and Clinical Informatics. Chiazotam Ekekezie

BioPrior to Stanford, Dr Ekekezie completed internal medicine training and chief residency at Brown University. She moved to Stanford for GI and hepatology fellowship, and served as a chief fellow in her final year. After fellowship, she stayed on joining as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director for the GI fellowship program. She has presented nationally and internationally on topics related to medical education, psychological safety, and inclusion.
Clinically, Dr Ekekezie welcomes seeing patients with a diverse range of GI-related issues as part of Stanford’s general GI group. Vanessa El Kamari

BioVanessa El Kamari, MD, is a physician-scientist in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine at Stanford University and a member of the David Relman Laboratory. Her research investigates how host–microbe interactions in the small intestine regulate mucosal immunity, barrier integrity, and systemic inflammation in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
Her current studies use non-invasive sampling of the small intestine in conditions such as celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, and environmental enteropathy. She applies an integrative, multi-omic approach—combining microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and computational biology—to define spatial immune–microbial networks along the human gut.
Before joining Stanford, Dr. El Kamari’s research focused on inflammation and immune activation in chronic HIV infection, where she identified gut barrier dysfunction as a key driver of systemic inflammation and cardiometabolic complications. She also led intervention studies targeting immune activation and endothelial dysfunction in HIV, work that laid the foundation for her current efforts to apply similar mechanistic approaches to autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. -

Samer Eldika
Clinical Professor, Medicine - Gastroenterology & Hepatology
BioDr. Eldika received his medical education at the American University of Beirut. He completed his General Gastroenterology Fellowship at the State University of New York in Buffalo and Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at the University of Virginia. At Ohio State University, he served as the Director of Interventional Endoscopy and Endoscopic Quality. His time at Ohio State University contributed to the growth and maturity of his experience and skills in interventional endoscopy. During his tenure there, he played a major role in building the program of interventional endoscopy in general, as well as interventional endoscopy for the pediatric age group, and the endoscopic quality program. Over the years, he was involved in training several gastroenterology fellows and interventional endoscopists. He recently joined Stanford University where he continues to practice interventional endoscopy and train fellows.
He is a board-certified Gastroenterologist with clinical interests in pancreaticobiliary diseases, gastrointestinal neoplasia, and related interventional endoscopic procedures. As an endoscopist, he has extensive experience in performing a variety of interventional endoscopic procedures. These procedures include endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided procedures like fine needle aspiration/biopsy, injections, fiducial placement, pseudocyst drainage/necrosectomy, biliary drainage, gastrojejunostomy, transgastric ERCP, and needle-based confocal endomicroscopy for the evaluation of pancreatic cystic lesions. He also performs endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic mucosal resection, enteral and stenting, enteral feeding tube placement, as well as deep enteroscopy.
His research interest evolves around interventional endoscopy, more specifically in the evaluation of pancreatic cystic lesions. Dr. Eldika has received multiple awards in his career, his most recent one being the “Reviewer Award, April 2020,” for his superior contributions to the journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, both through completing high numbers of reviews and for submitting the highest quality of work.
Dr. Eldika is a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, and American Pancreatic Association.
When not working Dr. Eldika enjoys reading, listening to music, watching sports and walking in nature. -

Hany Elmariah
