This early experience fostered her commitment to serving diverse populations and understanding their unique needs. As a first-generation professional from an immigrant background, Dr. Villalon brings a unique perspective to medicine, informed by her profound understanding of underserved communities. Her journey from a small Mexican village to becoming a physician exemplifies the power of determination and the importance of accessible healthcare. Through her work, she continues to advocate for equitable medical care while actively mentoring and supporting the next generation of physicians from underrepresented backgrounds.

    BioDr. Wallace is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He earned his MD and PhD in Molecular Biology from University of Utah in 2020 where he studied the role of non-coding RNAs in promoting the development of myeloid malignancies. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Stanford. He specializes in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of hematologic malignancies, with particular emphasis on multiple myeloma and acute myeloid leukemia. His current research is focused on understanding the role of the bone marrow microenvironment in promoting the development and progression of hematologic malignancies.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Wang's research centers on the development of innovative approaches to the treatment of arrhythmias, including more effective catheter ablation techniques, more reliable implantable devices, and less invasive treatments. Dr. Wang's clinical research interests include atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, syncope, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr. Wang is committed to addressing disparities in care and is actively involved in increasing diversity in clinical trials.

    BioDr. Samantha Wang is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. She received her medical and masters in health sciences degrees from Yale School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Stanford, where she served as Chief Resident. She practices as a hospitalist at Stanford Health Care and works closely with residents and students in clinical teaching and mentorship. Her clinical focus is in patient-centered communication, and she directs inpatient implementation of the Serious Illness Care Program while studying strategies to improve the quality and impact of serious illness conversations for hospitalized patients.

    Dr. Wang’s academic work spans health equity, medical education, and faculty development. She leads national collaborations advancing scholarship and advocacy in health equity and has received innovation grants to develop curricula addressing bias, structural racism, and diagnostic equity in clinical care. Her “5-Minute Moment for Racial Justice” curriculum has been disseminated nationally and internationally through Stanford CME and YouTube and translated into multiple languages. She received the American Board of Internal Medicine Professionalism Article Prize (2025) for her scholarship on professionalism and advancing health equity.

    Dr. Wang leads faculty development initiatives within the Division of Hospital Medicine that support mentorship, scholarship, and community building. Her work focuses on creating environments where faculty can thrive academically while fostering inclusive learning communities for the next generation of physicians. In recognition of these efforts, she received the Stanford University Women’s Forum Inspiring Early Academic Career Award.

    BioDr. Ward is the Chief of the Geriatrics Section in the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine, and a Clinical Professor of Medicine. In this leadership role, she supervises program leaders across outpatient, inpatient, and skilled nursing facility settings, bringing them together to provide longitudinal, coordinated care to older adults across the healthcare continuum.

    Dr. Ward is a fellowship-trained geriatrician with Stanford in Palo Alto, California, and is board certified in geriatric medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and internal medicine. Her clinical practice spans all care settings—outpatient clinics, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities—with a focus on managing the critical transitions between them. She specializes in comprehensive care for older adults, including dementia care, palliative care, geriatric assessment, and best practices in nursing home care. Dr. Ward draws on her extensive experience to teach and implement evidence based models that support care for older adults. Dr. Ward's research interests include early detection of dementia in vulnerable populations, dementia care support programs, and geriatric assessment in diverse populations.

    She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society; The American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy; The Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging; and the Journal of Palliative Medicine. She has served as an ad hoc reviewer for several journals, including Geriatrics, and has presented posters at annual meetings of the American Geriatrics Society and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
    Dr. Ward is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Geriatrics Society.

    BioDr. Erin Watson is a board-certified clinical health psychologist and Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is a member of Stanford Health Care’s GI Behavioral Medicine program, where she specializes in the intersection of psychological health, behavioral science, and gastrointestinal and liver disease.

    Dr. Watson’s clinical work focuses on helping patients navigate the emotional, behavioral, and lifestyle factors that influence medical illness. Her areas of expertise include health anxiety, stress and symptom management, health-behavior change, adjustment to chronic conditions, and the emerging specialty of psycho-hepatology. She uses practical, evidence-based approaches—including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and motivational interviewing—with lifestyle-medicine strategies to support long-term health and resilience. Her goal is to help patients feel more informed, supported, and empowered throughout their care.

    In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Watson is engaged in research to advance behavioral treatments for chronic pain and develop new psychological interventions for individuals living with chronic liver disease. She is a co-investigator on a National Institutes of Health–funded study examining effective treatment options for veterans with chronic pain and addiction. Her scholarly work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at regional and national conferences, including annual meetings of the American Psychological Association.

    Dr. Watson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology and a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Health Psychology (Division 38), the Society of Behavioral Medicine, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and the Rome Foundation.

    BioDr. Wei was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. He went to Stanford for his undergraduate studies in Biology and earned his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College. Unable to stay far from the Bay Area, he returned to Stanford where he completed his residency in internal medicine and subsequently his fellowship in gastroenterology. Dr. Wei has specific interests in colorectal cancer and Barrett’s esophagus surveillance as well as reflux diagnosis and management. He has an interest in endoscopic resection of large polyps and had received training under Dr. Shai Friedland, a world expert in this field. Dr. Wei work focuses on evaluating new tools, technologies and techniques in gastrointestinal cancer surveillance and management. He has been involved in running several trials in endoscopic management of polyps and evaluating artificial intelligence applications in gastroenterology. His work has been published in American Journal of Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Clinical Endoscopy, VideoGIE, and Digestive Diseases and Sciences. He was formerly an Associate Editor for the ACG Case Report Journal (2020-2022) and was on the Board of the Northern California Society of Clinical Gastroenterology. When not in clinic or in endoscopy, Dr. Wei enjoys spending time with his family. He and his family enjoy traveling and exploring new restaurants.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAs a physician-scientist I work to understand the genetic basis of cardiovascular disease and the transcriptional and epigenomic mechanisms of atherosclerosis. My work is focused across four main areas of cardiovascular genetics and mechanisms of coronary artery disease and smooth muscle biology:

    1.Vascular smooth muscle specific ADAR1 mediated RNA editing of double stranded RNA and activation of the double stranded RNA receptor MDA5 in coronary artery disease and vascular calcification
    2.Defining on single cell resolution the cellular and epigenomic features of human vascular disease across vascular beds of differing embryonic origin
    3.CRISPRi screening with targeted perturb seq (TAPseq) to identify novel CAD genes in human coronary artery smooth muscle cells
    4.Investigation of the epigenetic and molecular basis of coronary artery disease and smooth muscle cell transition in mice with conditional smooth muscle genetic deletion of CAD genes Pdgfd and Sox9

    My work is focused on discovery of causal mechanisms of disease through leveraging human genetics with sophisticated molecular biology, single cell sequencing technologies, and mouse models of disease. This work attempts to apply multiple scientific research arms to ultimately lead to novel understandings of vascular disease and discover important new therapeutic approaches for drug discovery.

    BioDean Winslow, MD is Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics and Senior Fellow (By courtesy) at CISAC/Freeman Spogli Institute. He has served on the Stanford faculty since 1998 and from 2003-2008 as Co-Director of Stanford's Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program. He was in private practice in Wilmington, Delaware where he started the state’s multidisciplinary clinic for HIV patients in 1985. In 1988 he joined the DuPont Company where he worked both as a bench scientist on HIV drug resistance then designed the clinical trials supporting FDA approval of efavirenz. In 1999 he became Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Visible Genetics Inc. and led the FDA clearance of the TRUGENE HIV-1 drug resistance test. Dr. Winslow joined the staff at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in 2003, where he served as Chief of the Division of AIDS Medicine and later as Chair of the Department of Medicine. In 2015 he was appointed Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine at Stanford and Academic Physician-In-Chief at Stanford/ValleyCare. He was a Resident Fellow in Robinson House 2013-2017 and was visiting faculty at Oxford University in 2017. He was Lead Physician for the US Antarctic Program of the National Science Foundation 2019-2020 based at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. In March 2021 he took leave from Stanford to lead the US COVID-19 Testing and Diagnostic Working Group. He also served as CDC Senior Advisor to Operation ALLIES WELCOME and Chief Medical Officer for the Southwest Border Migrant Health Task Force before returning to Stanford in July 2022.

    Dr. Winslow is a Master of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society. He is the author of over 100 papers. He is,a member of the IDSA Sepsis Task Force, and previously served as Chair of the Standards and Practice Guidelines Committee.

    Colonel Winslow entered USAF/Air National Guard in 1980 and was a Distinguished Graduate of the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine. He served as Commander of the 159th Medical Group 1992-1995 and was State Air Surgeon, Delaware Air National Guard 1995-2011. He served as ANG Assistant to the Commander, 59th Medical Wing, Joint Base San Antonio 2011-2014. Colonel Winslow deployed to the Middle East six times after 9/11 as a flight surgeon supporting combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. From Jan-April 2003 Colonel Winslow was the flight surgeon responsible for combat rescue operations from northern Iraq to Tikrit. In 2005 he coordinated military public health in Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In 2006 Colonel Winslow served as an ER physician at the United States Air Force 447th EMEDS (combat hospital) in Baghdad and in 2008 he served as hospital commander during the Iraq surge. He is a 2007 graduate of Air War College. He served as an infectious disease consultant to the USAF Surgeon General. In 2017 Dr. Winslow was nominated by the President to serve as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. He has 3,000 civilian and 1,200 military flying hours including 431 combat hours and 263 combat sorties. He has extensive operational experience in fighter, tactical airlift, and combat rescue missions. He holds an FAA Airline Transport Pilot license.

    Since 2006 Dr. Winslow has arranged medical care in the U.S. for 28 Iraqi children who have complicated medical conditions for which care is not available in Iraq. In 2015, Dr. Winslow and his wife, Dr. Julie Parsonnet, created The Eagle Fund of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, which provides aid to middle eastern and central American refugees. In 2018 he co-founded Scrubs Addressing the Firearms Epidemic (SAFE), which unites health care professionals to address gun violence in the US as a public health issue and to advocate for education, research, and evidence-backed policy to reduce gun violence.

    BioDr. Tem (Temesgen) is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health. He obtained his medical degree at UCSF and continued his residency training at UCSF in Family and Community Medicine. He was selected as Chief Resident, where he further developed as a clinical educator and administrator, prior to joining the faculty group at Stanford. His academic interests include alternative models of care, clinical informatics, and digital health equity.

    Dr. Tem Woldeyesus practices full-spectrum family medicine, which includes care for the entire age spectrum. He is driven to provide evidence-based, high quality, culturally competent care.

    He is a native of the Bay Area. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his fiancée, playing (and watching) basketball, and exploring national parks.

    BioDr. Wu is a board-certified cardiologist at Stanford Health Care. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. His areas of clinical focus include general and preventive cardiology with a particular interest in cardiac imaging. Dr. Wu has board certification in echocardiography, cardiovascular CT, and cardiac nuclear imaging.

    Dr. Wu speaks fluent Chinese and Spanish and embraces racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity in his clinical care. He has international clinical/research experiences in Italy and Mexico, and truly enjoys meeting and working with people from distinctive backgrounds.

    Dr. Wu is passionate about clinical research. He has pursued scholarly work on the utilization of therapeutic drug monitoring for antihypertensive therapy and statins to help patients from low socioeconomic backgrounds improve their medication adherence. He is also involved in research on advanced cardiac imaging and has actively investigated the applications of cardiac CT in electrophysiology interventions.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy lab seeks to identify mechanisms regulating cardiac lineage commitment during embryonic development and the biology of cardiac progenitor cells in development and disease. We believe that by understanding the transcriptional and epigenetic basis of cardiomyocyte growth and differentiation, we can identify the most effective ways to repair diseased adult hearts. We employ mouse and human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells as well as rodents as our in vivo models for investigation.

Dr. Yang is currently a PI on the NIH/NHLBI funded CCTRN UM1 grant, which is designed to conduct multi-center clinical trial on novel biological therapy.

    BioSeema Yasmin is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, poet, medical doctor and author. Yasmin served as an officer in the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where she investigated disease outbreaks and was principal investigator on a number of CDC studies. Yasmin trained in journalism at the University of Toronto and in medicine at the University of Cambridge.

    Yasmin was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in breaking news in 2017 with a team from The Dallas Morning News for coverage of a mass shooting, and recipient of an Emmy award for her reporting on neglected tropical diseases and their impact on resource poor communities in the U.S. She received multiple grants from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting for coverage of gender based violence in India and the aftermath of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. In 2017, Yasmin was a John S. Knight Fellow in Journalism at Stanford University investigating the spread of health misinformation and disinformation during public health crises. Previously she was a science correspondent at The Dallas Morning News, medical analyst for CNN, and professor of public health at the University of Texas at Dallas. She teaches crisis management and crisis communication at the UCLA Anderson School of Management as a Visiting Assistant Professor.

    She is the author of 12 non-fiction, fiction, poetry and childrens books, including: Can Scientists Succeed Where Politicians Fail? (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2025) which was co-authored with Nobel laureate Dr. Peter Agre; What the Fact?!     Yasmin’s unique expertise in epidemics and communications has been called upon by the Vatican, the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, the Aspen Institute, the Skoll Foundation, the Biden White House, and others. She teaches a new paradigm for trust-building and evidence-based communication to leadership at the World Health Organization and CDC. In 2019, she was the inaugural director of the Stanford Health Communication Initiative.

    Her scholarly work focuses on the spread of scientific misinformation and disinformation, information equity, and the varied susceptibilities of different populations to false information about health and science. In 2020, she received a fellowship from the Emerson Collective for her work on inequitable access to health information. She teaches multimedia storytelling to medical students in the REACH program.

    BioDr. Emmanuelle Yecies is a board-certified internal medicine doctor at Stanford Health Care, with fellowship training in women’s health and medical education. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Yecies practices comprehensive primary care and preventive care. Her additional training in women’s health equips her with the skills to manage complex, gender-specific health needs throughout the lifespan, including hormone management, reproductive health care, and chronic disease management. She provides comprehensive, trauma-informed care that’s personalized to each of her patients.

    Dr. Yecies’ research interests include preventive care and comprehensive chronic disease management for women in different reproductive stages of life, from menstruation through menopause. As a clinician educator, she has developed numerous educational materials for trainees and faculty. She is a frequent lecturer on issues affecting women’s health, both locally and nationally.

    Dr. Yecies has published her work in peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of General Internal Medicine, Seminars in Reproductive Medicine, Southern Medical Journal, and BMJ Open. She has authored chapters in medical textbooks and has also presented at national and regional meetings, including annual meetings of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) and the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM).

    BioCelina Yong, MD, MBA, MSc, FACC, FAHA, FSCAI, is an Associate Professor in the Stanford School of Medicine and Director of Interventional Cardiology at the VA Palo Alto Medical Center. Dr. Yong leads an active health services research lab focused on using large database analyses and novel scalable approaches to improve the quality of cardiovascular care. In her clinical practice, Dr. Yong performs complex percutaneous coronary interventions and transcatheter aortic valve replacements. She is actively involved in clinical trials of novel device and drug therapies for cardiovascular disease. She serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and leads the VA-Cardiovascular Trials Consortium.

    Prior to joining the Stanford faculty, Dr. Yong completed an MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics and MBA from Oxford as a Marshall Scholar.     BioShady Younis, PhD is an instructor at the division of Immunology and Rheumatology at Stanford University. He received his PhD in Medical Sciences from Uppsala University in Sweden. He later joined Dr. William Robinson’s Lab at Stanford University as Wallenberg postdoctoral fellow, where he characterized the pathogenic role of cytotoxic CD8+ T cells in rheumatoid arthritis. His current research aimed at elucidating the underlying triggers of pathogenic B cell responses in a spectrum of autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and multiple sclerosis (MS). He uses computational methodologies alongside cutting-edge high-throughput sequencing technologies to characterize the autoreactive B and T cells. The overarching research objective of his research is to unravel the mechanistic roles of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) reactivation in activating and transforming autoreactive B cells in the development of autoimmunity.

    BioDr. Yu is a modern-day version of the “old-fashioned family doc” who delights in caring for patients from “cradle to grave,” while also promoting the health of her community and developing the future leaders of family medicine. On any particular day, one might find her counseling a long-time smoker on quitting, draining an abscess in clinic, delivering a baby, doing a phone (or sometimes home) visit with one of her elderly patients, lecturing about High-Value Health Care, facilitating a diabetes group visit, singing the praises of coordinated primary care to politicians, discussing end-of-life options with a hospitalized patient, or sharing some of her stories as mother-doctor-teacher with one of her advisees. In 2016, adding one more hat to the mix, Dr. Yu became Program Director of the 24-resident Stanford Health Care - O’Connor Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. Whereas the old-fashioned family doc was a master at caring for patients at different ages and stages of life, as a modern-day family physician, Dr. Yu is committed to researching ways to do so more effectively and efficiently. She considers it a privilege to be a part of her patients' lives and hopes to help both her patients and her trainees find a path to better health and happiness. To keep herself in great health, Dr. Yu enjoys playing the piano, photography, scuba diving, adventure travel (all the more adventurous with her three children in tow!), and spending time with her family and friends.

    BioDr. Ilana Yurkiewicz is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine in the Division of Primary Care and Population Health and Division of Oncology (by courtesy). Board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology, she co-directs Stanford’s Primary Care for Cancer Survivorship Program, an innovative clinic that cares for cancer survivors and patients at elevated risk. She is also an award-winning medical journalist and Stanford’s inaugural Physician-Journalist in Residence.

    Her academic and clinical work centers on developing new models of care that bridge oncology and primary care. She has built programs to provide coordinated, longitudinal care for patients during and after cancer treatment and those with inherited cancer predispositions.

    As a physician-journalist, she is the author of the nationally acclaimed book Fragmented: A Doctor’s Quest to Piece Together American Health Care (W.W. Norton, 2023). Her writing has also appeared in The Best American Science and Nature Writing, The Atlantic, Scientific American, TIME, STAT, Undark, and other outlets. She received a Folio Award for best healthcare column and was shortlisted for the Cancer Journalism Award.

    She is Faculty Director of the annual Big Ideas in Medicine conference, which convenes leaders across fields to examine pressing challenges in health and society. She advises startups focused on cancer survivorship and prevention. As Associate Medical Director of Stanford’s Internal Medicine Clinic, she oversees the largest primary care clinic for Stanford residents. She teaches core concepts of cancer survivorship and primary care to residents, medical students, fellows, and faculty.

    Her research focuses on designing new approaches to cancer survivorship delivery, and she leads a research team evaluating their implementation in practice. Her work has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Genetics in Medicine, and other peer-reviewed journals. She has presented nationally at meetings including the Society of General Internal Medicine, American Society of Hematology, and National Society of Genetic Counselors. She has also served on the editorial board of Hematology News.

    Earlier in her career, Dr. Yurkiewicz interned with the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues and contributed to white papers on ethical challenges in medicine.     BioDr. Zein received her dual bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and Physiological Science at UCLA and worked initially as a healthcare consultant, developing programs that improve healthcare access for vulnerable populations. She returned to school to pursue a Masters in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University; her research foci were disaster response interventions for physical and mental health and the impact of the built environment on public health. During her masters, she worked with the International Rescue Committee in Baltimore to help address the acculturation and psychological stress the Baltimore refugee population faced in resettlement.

    Dr. Zein completed her medical training at McGill University. During medical school she continue to pursue interests in global and cultural health, focusing on national and local clinical projects to support refugee and asylum seeker access to medical and mental health treatment as part of CFMS. She was awarded the Mona Bronfman Sheckman Prize in Psychiatry for her work. During her psychiatry residency training at New York University (NYU), Dr. Zein continued pursuing her interest in global mental health, working as a group leader for refugees/asylum seekers in the Bellevue Survivors of Torture program, and the Association for Culture and Psychiatry.

    She also became interested in models of Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) to provide better access to mental health services within primary care and other settings. She founded the Integrated Behavioral Health resident working group and designed a two-year resident training program in the Collaborative Care Model, and developed a Collaborative Care model in one of NYU Langone-Brooklyn's FQHC sites. She completed residency as a chief resident and won awards for Excellence in Resident Teaching as well as for humanism and clinical excellence in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program

    Dr. Zein completed her Consult Liaison Fellowship at Stanford and has remained as clinical faculty. She previously currently served as an attending psychiatrist on the General, Intensive Care, and ED-Psychiatry Consult service. She currently works as the Psychiatric Director for Integrated Behavioral Health. She initially the model for the Stanford Primary Care Clinic serving Cisco employees and their families. She is currently working on expanding Integrated Behavioral health to other Stanford Primary Care Clinics, and has worked with Stanford's Digital Health Team to start and expand psychiatry e-consults for primary care. She also works as the Behavioral Health Director for Cisco, applying principles of organizational psychiatry and public health to assess company behavioral health strategy and provide support for Cisco employees and their families. Additionally, Dr Zein is part of the Stanford Mental Health lab where she supervises and completes evaluations for refugee and asylum seekers, and teaches Neuroscience and Psychopharmacology for the Psychiatry Residents

She completed both her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. Prior to joining Stanford in 2023, Dr. Zhang supported survivors of interpersonal violence at the University of California San Francisco Trauma Recovery Center for over seven years. Dr. Zhang embraces an integrative, contextualized, evidence-informed, and strength-based approach to teaching, supervision, and clinical care. She provides services in English and Mandarin.

    BioDr. Zhang is a board-certified hematologist. She is also an assistant professor of hematology at Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition to her medical degree, she holds a PhD in cellular and molecular immunology.

    In her clinical practice, she treats patients with all forms of hematological malignancies, offering specialized expertise in acute myeloid leukemia, including therapy-resistant cases. For each patient, she develops a personalized care plan encompassing novel treatment options.

    Her research activities include conducting early phase clinical trials, investigator initiated clinical trials (IITs), studying the immune repertoire in patients with myeloid malignancies, and exploring cholesterol metabolic dependencies of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

    She was the recipient of an A.P. Giannini Foundation fellowship award, which supports innovative research. The award helped fund Dr. Zhang’s study of how AML cells interact with other cells in bone marrow. A significant finding confirmed that AML cells secrete a protein that suppresses the production of red blood cells, the same protein that causes inflammation in disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease.

    Her many other honors include the National Cancer Institute Career Development (K08) Award, the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Research Training Award for Fellows, Stanford Cancer Institute - American Cancer Society (SCI-ACS) Pilot Grant and Best ASH Abstract Award two years in a row. She also has earned recognition from the National Institutes of Health and American College of Physicians.

    She has published her research findings on topics such as advanced therapy for high-risk myelodysplastic syndromes and reversal of bone marrow failure induced by AML. Her work has appeared in Leukemia & Lymphoma, Science Translational Medicine, Cancer Research, the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Immunology, and elsewhere.

    Dr. Zhang is a member of the American Association of Cancer Research and American Society of Hematology. She advises and mentors Stanford medical students, residents and fellows. She delivers invited lectures to faculty and fellows. In addition, she has been an invited speaker on the topic of acute myeloid leukemia at the Association of Northern California Oncologists Update on Hematological Malignancies.

    BioDr. Zhou is an Instructor in the Division of Oncology at Stanford University with an academic focus in sarcoma. She graduated from Yale University with a B.A. and double majored in economics and molecular, cellular, and developmental biology. She subsequently received her M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine, where she completed her internal medicine residency and fellowship training.

    Her research interests center around the development of novel therapeutics, understanding pathophysiology of rare sarcoma subtypes, and evaluating the utility of circulating tumor DNA for assessing disease response and detecting minimal residual disease. She has co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications, including in Clinical Cancer Research and Nature Cell, and is an active member of the Sarcoma Clinical Trial Working Group in the Hoosier Cancer Research Network.     BioDr. Margaret Zhou is a board-certified, fellowship-trained gastroenterologist with Stanford Health Care. She also holds an appointment as clinical assistant professor at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    She specializes in therapeutic endoscopy with expertise in treating Barrett’s esophagus and disorders of the pancreas and bile duct. In particular, she offers advanced endoscopic interventions to prevent, detect, and manage gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. These interventions include endoscopic mucosal resection, endoscopic ablation, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and endoscopic ultrasound. She is also interested in the management of esophageal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease.

    Dr. Zhou has published widely on improving the detection of precancerous lesions and cancers of the GI tract. She is particularly interested in prevention, early detection, and outcomes in Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal cancer, and stomach cancer. In addition, she has published on new technologies and the use of artificial intelligence in GI. Her research has been published in multiple journals including Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology; Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology; and Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

    Dr. Zhou is an active member of multiple national GI societies. She currently serves on the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Clinical Guidelines Committee and AGA Trainee and Early Career Committee. She also serves as an Associate Editor for Evidence-Based GI, an American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) journal.

    BioDr. Zhu is an Assistant Professor of Medicine whose clinical and research expertise focuses on cardio-oncology and cardio-immunology. She specializes in the cardiovascular care of patients undergoing therapies for cancer, with a particular focus on the effects of immunotherapies on the heart. She received a bioengineering degree from MIT, medical degree from Case Western Reserve University, and completed clinical cardiology fellowship and internal medicine residency training at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Zhu’s laboratory focuses on myocarditis, cardiac inflammation, and the effects of cancer therapeutics on the cardiovascular system. Her current research employs clinical data, bio-banked samples, and in vivo/in vitro preclinical models in combination with single-cell technologies to study immune-based toxicities in the heart. Dr. Zhu's clinic sees cardio-oncology and cardio-immunology patients and her lab focuses on devising new methods for minimizing cardiovascular complications in the cancer and autoimmune patient populations.

    BioDr. Ziolkowski is a board-certified nephrologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she is a founding contributor to Stanford’s Onco-Nephrology program. She is a pioneering investigator who leads an independent, multidisciplinary research program at the intersection of onco-nephrology, medical imaging, and artificial intelligence, focused on redefining how kidney disease is detected, characterized, and managed in patients with cancer.

    Her research integrates large-scale clinical data, advanced imaging, and machine learning to develop novel predictive models and uncover mechanisms of kidney injury in complex populations, including patients with cancer and stem cell transplantation. Through this work, she is establishing a new research paradigm that leverages imaging and AI to move beyond traditional biomarkers and enable earlier detection, improved risk stratification, and more precise, individualized care. Her program is designed to support the development of innovative, externally funded research aimed at transforming kidney outcomes in high-risk populations.

    Clinically, Dr. Ziolkowski cares for patients at Stanford Health Care kidney clinics in Palo Alto and Emeryville, where she specializes in the management of kidney disease in patients with cancer. Her approach emphasizes precision medicine and individualized care strategies to optimize long-term outcomes and quality of life.

    Dr. Ziolkowski has authored peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Journal of Renal Nutrition, and Peritoneal Dialysis International, and presents her work nationally at meetings such as the American Society of Nephrology.     Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Zolopa’s research applies a variety of clinical epidemiologic methods in an effort to optimize antiretroviral therapy and understand the impact of drug resistance on response to ARV. Areas of focus include the clinical application of resistance testing in optimizing antiretroviral therapy, clinical cohorts, trials of antiretroviral therapies and population-based epidemiologic evaluation of HIV resistance and efficacy of ARV therapy. More recently studies focused on premature aging in HIV.
