Qianheng Ma

BioQianheng (Jessica) Ma obtained her PhD degree of biostatistics at University of Chicago under the supervision of Prof. Donald Hedeker and is the 2021 recipient of the dissertation grant from Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology (SMEP). Her current research focus are modern statistical methods and deep learning techniques for mining (multivariate) intensive longitudinal data especially psychological/behavioral measures collected by mobile/wearable devices. Besides research, she loves playing the piano and is good at Jazz improvisation and she can speak fluent Cantonese.

Marina Magalhães
Postdoctoral Scholar, Neonatal and Developmental Medicine
BioMarina Magalhães is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Suzan Carmichael’s lab in the Division of Neonatal and Developmental Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine. Her overall research goals are to improve health outcomes and advance health equity for women, pregnant and birthing people, and their infants. Dr. Magalhães is a nurse by training in newborn critical care with a background using clinical research methods, particularly to support nutrition and optimize health outcomes of preterm, very low birthweight (VLBW) infants. Her doctoral research found that personalizing lactation support via biomarker-based text messages during early postpartum may be feasible to prolong lactation among mothers of critically ill infants. This experience, along with the growing maternal health crisis and research silos separating maternal and newborn health, led her to pursue postdoctoral training in perinatal epidemiology. Her current research centers on the health of women and childbearing people by using population-level data to investigate the causes of adverse perinatal health outcomes (i.e. severe maternal morbidity) in the U.S.

Moogdho Mim Mahzab

BioMoogdho is a postdoctoral scholar at the Woods Institute for the Environment. He is a development economist, concentrating on political economy, environment and public health. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Virginia (UVa) in 2021. His research at UVa focused on how dishonest politicians (tax-evaders) affect public goods provision and public health in constituencies the politicians represent. At Stanford, he is working at the Luby Lab on improving Brick Kilns operations in South Asia to reduce air pollution and facilitate better public health.

From 2017-2019 I have been a postdoc at AMC and ASUS Amsterdam, Netherlands, and in 2020 I joined METRICS at Stanford University, USA where I focus on meta-research of preprints and peer review. Valentina Martinez Damonte

BioI have come to Stanford University to increase my knowledge and acquire new skills in neuroscience and synaptic plasticity. My interest in the brain arises from its unique complexity and malleability to shape different behavioral outcomes. My PhD was aimed at studying the modulation of voltage-gated calcium channels in primary neuronal cultures and brain slices by a GPCR involved in energy homeostasis and memory. At this stage I am willing to use my expertise in electrophysiology and subcellular neuroscience to explore the plasticity of inhibitory afferents into the VTA and its relation with stress-induced relapse.
I also believe that science is a powerful tool to explore and change the world, and hence I am highly interested in the ideas behind science policies as well as in understanding how science shapes the reality we live in, and the responsibility we have as scientists. -
Daniel Mas Montserrat

Previously he graduated summa cum laude from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Audiovisual Systems in Telecommunications Engineering. Currently, he is a research fellow at the Stanford School of Medicine (Department of Biomedical Data Science). His research focuses on applying computational methods to problems in population genetics and biomedicine.

BioBrittany Matheson, PhD, is a clinical instructor and licensed clinical psychologist in the Eating Disorders Clinic. She completed her undergraduate degree at Duke University, doctorate from the Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego, and APA clinical internship at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford/Children’s Health Council. Dr. Matheson's research interests include examining the psychosocial, neurocognitive, and familial factors related to disordered eating and excess weight gain in youth. In particular, Dr. Matheson has research and clinical expertise in the interplay among obesity, disordered eating, and autism spectrum disorder. She is interested in the development and implementation of evidence-based treatments for youth with disordered eating as well as better understanding factors that influence pediatric bariatric surgery outcomes.

Devin Malloy McCauley

BioDevin McCauley earned his PhD in Human Development and Family Studies from The Pennsylvania State University in 2021, where his research applied intensive longitudinal methods and time-varying effect modeling to investigate family, school, and peer influences on adolescent mental health and well-being. A second focus of his research applies a developmental framework in study of adolescent e-cigarette use. He is particularly interested in identifying sociodemographic (e.g., race/ethnicity, sexual identity) disparities in risk factors for e-cigarette use. His long-term goal is to inform, develop, and evaluate family and school-based prevention programs which support healthy adolescent development and address health disparities related to e-cigarette use.

Hector Rodrigo Mendez

BioDr. Hector Rodrigo Mendez is a Medical Geneticist from Argentina. Rodrigo completed a residency program in Medical Genetics at Centro Nacional de Genetica Medica – ANLIS (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and a Master’s program in Medical Molecular Biology at Buenos Aires University.
Rodrigo continued his scientific career at a German Genomic Start-up, working as a human geneticist and providing his experience in rare disorders, genomic data (WGS/WES/gene panels) analysis, variant interpretation, and its integration with a deep focus on genotype-phenotype correlation.
Rodrigo’s areas of expertise are rare disorders, NGS technology, Whole Genome Sequencing analysis, and ACMG interpretation guidelines, and his research aims are:
- Collection and analysis of clinical data through deep-learning phenotyping approaches.
- Multi-omic data integration to elucidate complex and rare genetic disorders.
- International collaborations to break down barriers to research participation amongst those who have been under-represented.
At Stanford University, under the supervision of Dr. Matthew Wheeler, he is conducting his postdoctoral research studies to achieve his scientific goals. -
Karthik Menon

BioKarthik Menon is a postdoctoral scholar in the Cardiovascular Biomechanics Computation Laboratory at Stanford University, advised by Alison Marsden. His current research involves the development of computational methods for accurate patient-specific cardiovascular blood flow simulations and uncertainty quantification. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2021, where his doctoral work focused on the flow physics of fluid-structure interactions. His broad research interests include fluid mechanics, computational modeling and data-driven methods.

Cynthia Messina

BioDr. Cynthia Messina joined the Medicinal Chemistry Knowledge Center as a postdoctoral scholar in April of 2022. She works in collaboration with Prof. Justin Annes laboratory developing novel therapeutic strategies to prevent and treat disorders of endocrine cell growth. Cynthia obtained her Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from the laboratory of Prof. Pat Forgione at the Concordia University in Montréal, Canada. Her research focused on developing new practical and green methodologies for facile access to multi-arylated heteroarenes.

Mir S Adil

He has a PharmD from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (India) and a PhD in Clinical & Experimental Therapeutics from University of Georgia. Samuel Montalvo Hernandez

BioI am a clinical exercise physiologist and sport biomechanist interested in human exercise and sports performance. I am a certified performance and sport scientists (CPSS) and a certified strength and conditioning specialist with distinction (CSCS, *D) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). In 2022, I was honored with the 2022 Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship. As a research exercise and sport scientist, I am interested in understanding the mechanical, molecular, and physiological mechanisms of human performance. Additionally, I am interested in creating new and practical training methods to improve human exercise and sports performance.

Eric Mou, MD

BioI was born in Oregon and raised in Iowa, where I cultivated my initial interest in science and medicine. I completed my undergraduate degree and medical school at the University of Iowa before heading to Stanford University for my internal medicine residency and oncology fellowship training. I chose this field to try my best in assisting patients during times of great need, and working to understand what is of greatest importance to them as they navigate their unique journey of cancer care. My clinical focus is in the care of patients with lymphoma and other hematologic cancers. My scholarly interests include better understanding the efficacy cancer therapeutics, improving patients' experience as the proceed through treatment, and promoting strength in medical education.

Solene Moulin

BioI am a very curious person who likes to understand how things work and I love to contribute to new discoveries that will help to cope with tomorrow’s challenges. After my studies at the Ecole Normale Supérieure Ulm, I got specialized in plant science. I am interested in this research field because plants are critical for environment as well as for food and bio-energy production. In 2016, I joined CEA Cadarache for my PhD which led me to participate in a research program on hydrocarbon synthesis in algae. I really liked this project which was focusing on both reaching a bio-based production of hydrocarbons for fuel production and deciphering of the hydrocarbon synthesis pathway in algae. I have been leading research to assess the occurrence of this pathway in the different types of eukaryotic algae, its evolutionary history and its relevance for algal physiology. I am now going to study another evolutionary history that has led to a symbiosis between a diatom and a N-fixing cyanobacteria, the latest being on its way to become an organelle. Understanding the physiological relationship between the diatom and the cyanobacteria will help understanding nitrogen cycle and could lead to major innovations in farming.
