Timothy A. Bouley

BioTimothy A. Bouley, MD, MSc, MA is Managing Director for Biological Solutions, Food, and Agriculture at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. He is responsible for leading the strategy and implementation of life science-related ‘Flagship Destinations,’ accelerating Stanford research into scalable technology and policy solutions.
Dr. Bouley has spent more than 20 years working across biotechnology, medicine, food systems, and the environment. In 2020, he founded and served as CEO of BioFeyn, a life science company based at Harvard, translating biomedical innovation in nanoparticle and stability science to improve the health and sustainability of farmed Norwegian salmon and animal agriculture. In recent years he has also worked to develop and support biological innovations in eDNA and genomics, oral vaccines, tissue engineering, and others with a particular focus on applied benefit for environmental sustainability.
From 2011 – 2018, Timothy was at the World Bank where he established several of the first international programs in Planetary Health: founding the World Bank program on Climate Change and Health; launching the new field of Climate-Smart Healthcare; and serving as the originating author for the first UN-World Bank framework on One Health. Operationally, this work supported lending throughout Africa, Asia, and the Pacific, deploying technology-focused innovation and finance in environment, infectious disease, and agriculture. He led numerous publications, including the five-part 'Investing in Climate and Health' series and 'Framework for Strengthening Human, Animal, and Environmental Public Health Systems.'
He has written and lectured widely on the relationship of human health to the environment and serves as a regular advisor to international organizations, governments, financial institutions, industry, and start-ups. He has held fellowships with the US National Academy of Sciences, Rockefeller Foundation, University of Exeter, and University of Edinburgh. He holds degrees in biology, bioethics, geography, and medicine. -
Alison W. Bowers

BioAlison Bowers holds a PhD in Educational Research and Evaluation from Virginia Tech. Her background and experience include working as a field-based environmental educator with the Cooperative Extension Service and at the national scale with nonprofit conservation and education organizations. Alison has an EdS in Early Childhood Special Education from George Washington University, a MFRC with a Certificate in Environmental Education and Communication from the University of Florida, and a BA in Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Her research focus is on research design and process and she is particularly interested in research reviews, systematic reviews, and grounded theory methodology.

BioI am a staff research scientist and lecturer in the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. My primary responsibilities include managing both the day-to-day and long-term operations of the Stanford Microchemical Analysis Facility (MAF). I also have an active research program that includes projects in multiple scientific disciplines, and I teach multiple Stanford courses including courses at both the undergraduate- and graduate-levels.
In addition to my position at Stanford, I am the Treasurer of the Microanalysis Society, hold a courtesy faculty position at Oregon State University, and serve as a technical director for the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure program. -
Stephanie Caddell

Graduate Student Coordinator, Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability - Dean's OfficeBioStephanie Caddell graduated with a bachelor's degree in environmental science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with minors in marine science and environmental justice. While at UNC, she researched marine microbiology, fisheries dynamics, and marine ecosystem dynamics in Ecuador and the Galapagos. Additionally, she has researched bycatch mitigation efforts in the North Atlantic for sea turtle species with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. Now working on her PhD in the Oceans Department under the mentorship of Dr. Larry Crowder and Dr. Nicole Ardoin, Stephanie is interested in understanding how to implement transdisciplinary solutions to marine management in coastal and island systems to ensure effective protection measures for marine migratory species, reduce interactions between pelagic species and fishing operations, and ensure sustainable resource usage for human communities. She aims to understand how to bring together local community knowledge with that of science to inform more productive policy and management strategies.

Trevor W Cambron
Sustainability Technology and Business Analyst, Sustainability Accelerator
BioTrevor Cambron is a Sustainability Technology and Business Analyst at the Stanford Doerr School Sustainability Accelerator. He works with teams within the Food, Agriculture, and Biological Solutions 'Flagship Destinations' to externalize cutting-edge research as companies, non-governmental organizations, and policy.
He holds a B.S. (with honors) in Earth Systems and Notation in Science Communication (with distinction) from Stanford University and an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has previously researched topics including the yield impact of sustainable agriculture and the impact of climate change on ecosystem carbon cycling. He has led several publications, including those accepted by Nature Climate Change and Environmental Research Letters. He was previously a Presidential Fellow at MIT and was offered a Graduate Research Fellowship by the National Science Foundation. -
Clark Michael Campagna

BioClark Campagna serves as Assistant Director of Student Services for the Department of Geophysics. In this role, Clark: provides academic advising to BS, MS and Ph.D. geophysics students; supports the graduate admission process; manages course scheduling; and supports the department's postdoctoral scholars . Previously Clark served as a Student Services Officer for the dual and joint MS students in Stanford's E-IPER program.
Prior to joining Stanford, Clark served as a Program Assistant for two master-level programs at the University of San Francisco. As a student services professional, Clark enjoys hearing about students' goals and passions, and working with them to make the most of their time at Stanford. Clark holds a BA in Political Science from UC San Diego and both an MPA and MA in Higher Education Administration from the University of San Francisco. When not at work, Clark enjoys road cycling, running, cooking, and spending time with friends. -

BioAs the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, Dr. Lupe Carrillo leads the office that oversees recruitment and inclusion initiatives for the Doerr school’s students, staff, and faculty. She also implements National Science Foundation supported programs to build a broad talent pipeline into the field of sustainability, such as the SURGE undergraduate research program and the Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellowship. She has co-written a book chapter for Springer Nature on creating teaching partnerships at minority-serving institutions and led and completed the implementation of the school’s 3-year Diversity, Equity and Inclusion action plan, which helped embed recruitment and inclusion values into the foundation of Stanford’s newest school. Lupe holds a B.A. in English and Political Science from UC Berkeley and a PhD in English from Stanford University and has taught classes on 20th and 21st century American ethnic literature at De Anza College and Stanford.

Jimmy Chen
Managing Director StorageX Initiative, Precourt Institute for Energy
BioJim Chen leads a number of energy programs at Stanford Energy,
including Stanford’s new Hydrogen Initiative; Stanford’s energy storage initiative,
StorageX; and Stanford’s integrated energy program, Stanford Energy Corporate
Affiliates (SECA). Dr. Chen was also the founding Managing Director of Bits & Watts,
Stanford’s initiative focusing on the grid of the 21st century, launched in 2016.
Dr. Chen is enthusiastic about the global energy transformation and building a more
sustainable society through innovation. At Stanford, Dr. Chen creates and expands
impactful global communities of practice that enable industrial-academic-government
collaboration in energy research and scale-up. Dr. Chen is also a leader in Stanford
Energy’s global events including its regional roundtables and Global Energy
Forum. Finally, Dr. Chen is deeply involved in Stanford’s innovation ecosystem,
advising student groups, start-up companies, and accelerators. Dr. Chen’s research
interests include hydrogen, energy storage, the circular economy, decarbonizing
transportation, and integrated energy systems. Dr. Chen’s teaching roles include
lecturing for Stanford’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and for
Stanford Energy’s Hydrogen Economy Seminar.
Dr. Chen is passionate about global energy entrepreneurship and innovation. He works
with energy agencies around the world promoting global collaboration, accelerating
innovation, and sparking entrepreneurship. He also serves on a number of advisory
councils, including on EPRI and GTI’s Low Carbon Research Initiative’s (LCRI)
technical advisory board.
Dr. Chen came to Stanford University after 25 years in industry, bringing a broad
background in energy and technology, with a specialization in technology and product
development. He has held technical positions at Lawrence Berkeley Labs, GTE Labs,
IBM, and AT&T Bell Labs, as well as technology executive positions at both starts-ups
and Fortune 500 companies, including FormFactor and Eaton.
Dr. Chen received a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and MS from
the University of California, Berkeley — both in materials science and engineering —
and holds a BS from the University of California, Berkeley in electrical engineering. -

David Danielson

BioDavid T. Danielson became a Precourt energy scholar at Stanford in 2016. With Stuart Macmillan and Joel Moxley, Dave co-teaches the yearlong course "Energy Transformation Collaborative." This project-based course provides a launchpad for the creation and development of transformational energy ventures. Interdisciplinary student teams research, analyze and refine detailed plans for high-impact opportunities in the context of the new energy venture development framework offered in this course.
Since January 2017, Dave has been managing director of Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a $1 billion fund focused on fighting climate change by investing in clean energy innovation.
From 2012 to 2016, Dave was assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy. There, he directed the U.S. government’s innovation strategy in the areas of sustainable transportation, renewable power, energy efficiency and clean-energy manufacturing, investing about $2 billion annually into American clean-energy innovation. He is considered a global expert in the development of next generation clean-energy technologies and the creation of new R&D and organizational models for high-impact clean energy innovation.
Prior to being appointed by President Obama as assistant secretary, Dave was the first hire at DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency– Energy (ARPA-E), a funding agency that focuses on the development of high-risk, high-reward clean-energy technologies. Prior to his government service, he was a clean-energy venture capitalist and, as a PhD student at MIT, was the founder and president of the MIT Energy Club. -
Jeffrey Decker
Program Director, Precourt Institute for Energy
BioJeff Decker is managing director of the Technology Transition for Defense Program and co-instructor of Hacking for Defense course at Stanford University. Hacking for Defense uses the Lean Startup technique to tackle complex problems critical to the government around national security, energy networks, cyber security, and AI, and develop new technologies with teams of engineers, scientists, MBA’s and policy experts. With the program, Jeff has taught more than 300 students, faculty, and government personnel user-centered design from over 2 dozen colleges and universities, helping them solve more than 75 unique national security challenges for the Defense Department and related industries. Several student teams have gone on to form companies winning Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, gaining venture capital funding, and one team even became a program of record. Jeff’s work and research focuses generally on defense innovation and dual-use technologies, with a focus on developing go-to-defense market strategies for technology startups and fostering defense-industry partnerships. With his Lean Startup experience and expertise with Hacking for Defense, plus his military service, Jeff is a sought-after expert when it comes to national security and solving Defense Department challenges.
Jeff served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Ranger Battalion light infantry squad leader in Iraq and Afghanistan. Following his service, he earned a MS in International Relations (Laws), and a doctorate in International Relations before conducting national security and international affairs research at the RAND Corporation. -

James Douglass

BioJames Douglass (he/him) is the Software Architect for the Natural Capital Project. His current work focuses on expanding access to InVEST through better tooling in heterogeneous compute and development environments, supporting research efforts and identifying and prototyping impactful improvements to NatCap's Science and Technology offerings. In previous roles with NatCap, James has led the technical strategy of InVEST, led the development of OPAL, and previously served as lead of the Software Team. James received his B.S in Computer Science from St. Lawrence University.
