    BioDr. Perin Kothari, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and a specialist in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. He completed medical school at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, anesthesiology residency training at the Cleveland Clinic where he served as Chief Resident, and cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.

    Dr. Kothari is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists, and he is committed to education and mentorship at all career stages. He serves as the residency rotation director for cardiac anesthesiology, where he focuses his teaching on advanced perioperative transesophageal echocardiography and organ preservation strategies for heart and lung transplantation, and he mentors residents in the Stanford Medical Education Pathway. He has received the Educator of the Year Award from the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship program and is Director of his Department's faculty mentorship program and the Anesthesiology Speaker Program Inter-Exchange (ASPIRE), which provides early career faculty with national speaking opportunities.

    Dr. Kothari has nearly 30 publications, which mostly focus on educating the practicing physician on updated evidence-based guidelines.     Markos Kounalakis

    BioMarkos Kounalakis, Ph.D. has been a Visiting Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution since 2013. He is a Senior Fellow at the Center on Media, Data, and Society at Central European University and a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oregon-UNESCO Crossings Institute.

    He is California's "Second Gentleman" and an award-winning, nationally syndicated foreign affairs columnist, author, and scholar.

    Books authored by Dr. Kounalakis are wide-ranging – topics ranging from the Silicon Valley’s global technological revolution to America’s geopolitical struggles with China and Russia. “Freedom isn’t Free: The Price of World Order” (Anthem Press, 2022) is his most recent book and takes an analytical look at political, economic, social and moral trade-offs in a world in flux.

    His most recent Hoover Institution Press book is “Spin Wars & Spy Games: Global Media and Intelligence Gathering” (2018). In this volume, he makes clear that China and Russia’s global media organizations operate as both intelligence-gathering networks and diplomatic outposts. His research and advocacy actively supported a policy (since enacted) to subject Russian and Chinese media to the U.S. Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA).

    Dr. Kounalakis earned his Political Science Ph.D. summa cum laude in the International Relations subfield from Central European University, MSc at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and his Political Science BSc at the University of California, Berkeley. As an International Journalism Fellow at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School, he studied and researched in Guatemala and Cuba and at El Colegio de México in Mexico City. He was a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellow in Europe, studying at both the Bundesakademie für öffentliche Verwaltung in Bonn, Germany, and the École Nationale d'Administration in Paris.

    In 2017, President Barack Obama appointed Dr. Kounalakis to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. He has been a Trustee of The Asia Foundation since 2020 and joined the Advisory Board of the Council for International Relations in Greece in 2021.

    BioNataliya Kovalchuk is a Clinical Professor at Stanford Radiation Oncology department and an Adjunct Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She completed her residency at Mayo Clinic and worked at Massachusetts General Hospital/Boston Medical Center/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kovalchuk is one of the leaders in the clinical implementation of Biology-Guided Radiotherapy and auto-planning techniques for Total Body Irradiation (TBI), Total Marrow Lymphoid Irradiation (TMLI), and Cranio-Spinal Irradiation (CSI), with more than 200 publications and presentations. She serves on multiple committees at AAPM, ASTRO, NRG, COG, and volunteers for ABR as an examiner. She is also a physics chair for four NRG and COG clinical trials, physics lead for the NRG Head and Neck committee and the VMAT TBI workgroup. In recognition of her educational efforts, she has been honored with six teaching awards from ARRO, AAPM, Stanford, and Harvard. Since the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine, Nataliya directed her efforts to helping Ukraine as a co-founder and president of Help Ukraine Group. Her dedication was recognized with the Richard Hoppe Leadership Award and the Parliament of Ukraine Certificate of Merit for the Service to the People of Ukraine.

    Together with my research group, I develop and apply advanced imaging techniques, experimentation, and models to understand complex multiphase flows of gas, water, and organic phases in natural and manufactured porous media with applications in carbon storage, increased utilization of carbon dioxide for subsurface applications, hydrogen storage, and water reuse. In all of our work, physical observations, obtained mainly from laboratory and field measurements, are interwoven with theory.

    Teaching
    My teaching interests center broadly around education of students to meet the energy challenges that we will face this century. I teach undergraduate courses that examine the interplay of energy use and environmental issues including renewable energy resources and sustainability. At the graduate level, I offer classes on renewable energy processes based on heat and the thermodynamics of hydrocarbon mixtures.

    Associate Professor of Computer Science

    BioSanmi Koyejo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University and an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He leads the Stanford Trustworthy AI Research (STAIR) lab, which develops measurement-theoretic foundations for trustworthy AI systems, spanning AI evaluation science, algorithmic accountability, and privacy-preserving machine learning, with applications to healthcare and scientific discovery. His research on AI capabilities evaluation has challenged conventional understanding in the field, including work on measurement frameworks cited in the 2024 Economic Report of the President.

    Koyejo has received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), Skip Ellis Early Career Award, Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, NSF CAREER Award, and multiple outstanding paper awards at flagship venues, including NeurIPS and ACL. He has delivered keynote presentations at major conferences, including ECCV and FAccT. He serves in key leadership roles, including Board President of Black in AI, Board of Directors of the Neural Information Processing Systems Foundation, and other leadership positions in professional organizations advancing AI research and broadening participation in the field.

    BioDr. Kozal is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine and is the Director of Operations for the Department of Medicine Clinical Research Hub. He previously served as Senior Associate Dean for Veteran Affairs at Stanford School of Medicine and Chief of Staff at VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Prior to coming to Stanford, he was a Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and served as Associate Dean for Veteran Affairs at Yale University School of Medicine and the Chief of Staff at VA Connecticut Healthcare System.

    Dr. Kozal is a translational researcher who has focused his research career on three areas: 1) investigating the genetic determinants of HIV and HCV drug resistance, 2) the development of new molecular methods to detect viral mutations, and 3) HIV and HCV clinical trials involving new drugs and diagnostic technology. Dr. Kozal is an expert in microarray and deep sequencing technology receiving patents for his work in genotyping. Dr. Kozal previously directed the Yale HIV Clinical Trials Group and has more than 20 years of experience in running clinical trials, serving as the principal investigator or site investigator on >40 HIV and Hepatitis C trials. He has served on multiple VA and NIH/NCI review panels and was a member of the DHHS/NIH Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents from 2015-2024.

    Dr. Kozal is currently serving as the overall Director of Operations for the Department of Medicine Clinical Research Hub. The key hub functions include research navigation, enhanced pre-award support for budgeting and submission strategy, streamlined contracting with research sponsors, a multisite clinical coordination center to coordinate and monitor complex studies, and a centralized digital platform for study design, data access, and analytics.

    Dr. Kozal sees patients in the Infectious Diseases Clinic and the Valley Fever Clinic in Palo Alto.

    BioI engage in systems change and research on equity and justice issues in inclusive education in schools, school systems as well as state and national education organizations and agencies. My research interests include the analysis of systems change in education, how teachers learn in practice in complex, diverse school settings, including how educational practices improve student learning. Awards include the 2023 Luminary Award from the Division of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Exceptional Children, Council of Exceptional Children; the 2018 Budig Award for Teaching Excellence in Special Education at the University of Kansas; the 2017 Boeing-Allan Visiting Endowed Chair at Seattle University; the University of Kansas 2016 Woman of Distinction award; the 2013 Scholar of the Century award from the University of Northern Colorado; the 2011 TED-Merrill award for leadership in special education teacher education in 2011; and the UNESCO Chair in Inclusive International Research. I co-lead the World Education Research Association International Research Network on Student Voice for Promoting Equity and Inclusion in Schools along with Professor Kyriaki Messiou of the University of South Hampton, UK.

    A number of my articles focus on the design and development of teacher education programs that involve extensive clinical practice in general education settings. I have led the development of such programs in three universities, and continue to do research and development work in teacher education. I have also offered technical assistance as well as conducted research on the impact of technical assistance on individuals, as well as local, state, and national systems in the U.S. and abroad.

    I have received funding for more than $35 million in federal, state, and local grants. I serve on the Board of Editors for the book series Inclusive Education and Partnerships, an international book series produced by Deep University. Recent books include Ability, Equity, and Culture (with co-author Kathleen King Thorius) published by Teachers College Press in ‘14 and Equity on Five Continents (with Alfredo Artiles and Federico Waitoller) published in ‘11 by Harvard Education Press.

    BioChristos Kozyrakis is the Leonard Bosack and Sandy K. Lerner Professor of Engineering and a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Stanford University. His primary research areas are computer architecture and computer systems. His current work focuses on cloud computing, systems for machine learning, and machine learning for systems.

    Christos holds a BS degree from the University of Crete and a PhD degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a fellow of the ACM and the IEEE. He has received the ACM SIGARCH Maurice Wilkes Award, the ISCA Influential Paper Award, the NSF Career Award, the Okawa Foundation Research Grant, and faculty awards by IBM, Microsoft, and Google.

    BioDr. Kraler is a board-certified neurologist with subspecialty training in vascular neurology, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Kraler is also the Associate Program Director for the Vascular Neurology Fellowship at Stanford.

    Before joining the faculty at Stanford, Dr. Kraler attended medical school at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society. She completed her residency training at Stanford Hospital where she served as chief resident, followed by her Vascular Neurology fellowship training at Stanford. She then completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at Stanford University’s Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) focused on addressing the high cost of care in US Hospitals.

    Her research interests include improving access and quality of population health and developing high-value innovations in care delivery that decrease the cost of care while improving the quality to patients. In addition, she has a strong interest in medical education. Dr. Kraler has received recognition for outstanding medical student teaching from the Department of Neurology.

    Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

    BioDr. Kratter is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is also an adult psychiatrist and fellowship-trained neuropsychiatrist and provides ongoing mentorship and leadership in the Stanford Brain Stimulation Laboratory.

    His clinical interests include the psychiatric and cognitive aspects of movement disorders like Parkinson's and Tourette's as well as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and non-invasive and invasive neuromodulation for neuropsychiatric illness.

    His research interests focus on assessing outcomes and understanding the mechanisms of both neuromodulatory and novel pharmacological treatments. This includes both clinical and more mechanistic studies, such as using techniques like repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and deep brain stimulation in combination with neuroimaging and electrophysiology. He has been a co-investigator for such studies focusing on obsessive-compulsive disorder, major depressive disorder, and suicidal ideation, and traumatic brain injury.
    His work has appeared in a number of scientific journals including Nature Medicine, American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Translational Psychiatry, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. He also co-authored the chapter on major depression in the textbook Deep Brain Stimulation: Techniques and Practice.

    BioDr. Kraus is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford Children’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center trained in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) sports medicine. She has research and clinical interests in endurance sports medicine, injury prevention, running biomechanics, prevention of bone stress injuries, and the promotion of health and wellness at any age of life. Dr. Kraus is the director of the FASTR Program, which stands for Female Athlete Science and Translational Research. The FASTR program is supported by the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance and seeks to close the gender gap in sports science research with an emphasis on early identification and interventions to prevent injury and identify ways to optimize performance in female athletes. Dr. Kraus is also a member of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Women's Health Task Force and is the medical director of the Stanford Children's Motion Analysis and Sport Performance Lab. She has completed nine marathons including the Boston Marathon twice and one 50k ultramarathon. With running and staying physically active as one of her personal passions, she recognizes the importance of fitness for overall wellbeing and the prevention of chronic medical conditions.

    BioChristopher B. Krebs studied classics and philosophy in Berlin, Kiel (1st Staatsexamen 2000, Ph. D. 2003), and Oxford (M. St. 2002). He was a lecturer at University College (Oxford) and an assistant (2004-09) and then associate professor (2009-12) at the department of the Classics at Harvard, before he joined the Classics department at Stanford. In the spring of 2007 he was the professeur invité at the École Normale Supérieure (Paris), in 2008/9 the APA fellow at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in Munich (on which see his “You say putator” in the TLS), and, most recently, the recipient of the Christian Gauss Book Award from the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

    His publications include Negotiatio Germaniae. Tacitus’ Germania und Enea Silvio Piccolomini, Giannantonio Campano, Conrad Celtis und Heinrich Bebel (Göttingen: Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2005), and A most dangerous book. Tacitus’s Germania from the Roman Empire to the Third Reich (New York: W.W. Norton, 2011), which has or will be translated into six languages. He has also co-edited a volume on Time and Narrative in Ancient Historiography: The ‘Plupast’ from Herodotus to Appian (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2012). He is currently preparing a commentary on Caesar’s Bellum Gallicum 7 as well as an intellectual history of the late Roman Republic (with W.W. Norton); he is also co-editing the Cambridge Companion to Caesar. Other long-term projects and interests focus on Posidonius, Sallust and Tacitus, Latin lexicography, Thersites and Prometheus, and Annio di Viterbo.

    He organized and co-chaired a seminar on Classical Traditions at Harvard Humanities Center, where he also co-hosted a conference on “The Reception of Odysseus in Literature, Art, and Music” (April 2009). He co-organized a conference on “The historians’ Plupast” (2006), an APA Panel on “Caesar the ‘Litterator’” (January 2012), and a conference on “Caesar: Writer, Speaker and Linguist,” at Amherst College (September 2012). He will deliver the third annual Herbert W. Benario lecture in Roman Studies (at Emory University) in the fall of 2013 and the forty-third Skotheim Lecture in History (at Whitman College) in the spring of 2014. In the summer of 2014 he will co-teach in France a seminar on Caesar in Gaul for the Paideia Institute.

    BioDr. Krishnamohan is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist. He is a clinical assistant professor of neurology and neurological sciences and, by courtesy, of neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition, he is Medical Director of the Neurosciences Service Line at Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare and is Medical Director of its Stroke program.

    Dr. Krishnamohan excels in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions. His clinical interests include the management of stroke, epilepsy, concussion, and coma. With every patient, his goal is to provide personalized care designed to optimize neurological function for the best possible clinical outcome and quality of life.

    He has published extensively on topics including innovations in stroke care quality management and measurement, rapid bedside evaluation of seizures in the ICU, and EEG metrics in comatose cardiac arrest patients. Articles by Dr. Krishnamohan have appeared in Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care, Quality Management in Healthcare, Current Infectious Disease Reports, and other journals. He has presented his research findings at the annual meetings of the Neurocritical Care Society and American Academy of Neurology.
    He has authored chapters on post-concussive syndrome, stroke, and other conditions for the guidebook Ferri’s Clinical Advisor. In addition, he is a reviewer for the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, Neurohospitalist, and the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry.

    Dr. Krishnamohan has won recognition from Stanford Health Care, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School, the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research – the latter two his alma maters.

    Dr. Krishnamohan is a member of the Neurocritical Care Society, American Academy of Neurology, and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. He volunteers as a community health educator with numerous organizations.

    BioDr. Krishnan is a translational scientist with experiences in engineering, biosciences, molecular genetics and hematology. Having recently completed her NIH clinical scientist career development award (NHGRI 1K08HG010061-01A1, 2018-24), and NIH-supported research re-entry (NCATS 3UL1TR001085-04S1, 2016-18), Anandi’s interests are in expanding our understanding of the multifaceted function of anucleate blood platelets and their parent megakaryocytes in human disease.

    Her current work, applying platelet transcriptome profiling and machine learning principles, aims to nominate novel clinically relevant strategies for personalized cancer and antiplatelet/antithrombotic therapy. Continued development of this research is likely to identify key mechanistic variables in platelet- and megakaryocyte-specific response to health and disease.

    Recent contributions in both computational and mechanistic components of platelet and blood research lay the groundwork for sustaining contributions to the field of hematology genomic medicine (e.g. Shen et al PMID 34755136, Seetharam et al PMID 36712071, Kelliher et al PMID 37961700, Thomas & Krishnan PMID 38175681, Abbonante et al PMID 38165147, Jutzi et al PMID 35763665, Campbell et al PMID 36194487). Anandi was also was one of the first non-MD PhD scientist to be awarded the NHGRI K08 Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award, the HTRS Mid-Career Research Award, and the MPN Research Foundation Challenge Grant Award, reflecting her consistent efforts bridging basic and clinical disciplines.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe Krishnan Lab develops bioelectronic devices, tools and systems for closed loop disease management. Our work is divided into the following broad areas:
    1. Biohybrid electronics for therapy and sensing: we combine living cells as functional parts of implantable devices, leveraging their ability to produce complex biologic therapeutics in a constitutive or triggerable manner, and their ability to sense their complex dynamic environment. These efforts are focused on developed functional cures for diseases like Type I Diabetes and other conditions requiring the regular infusion of proteins, peptides or antibody drugs.
    2. Digital drug release systems for particulate forms of biologic drugs: Many complex protein and peptide drugs are not stable in solution, thereby frustrating the ability to delivery them through pumps and autoinjectors. This need is particularly acute for drugs that need to be administered as emergency rescue therapies, such as glucagon in the context of type 1 Diabetes. We develop implantable, miniaturized microelectromechanical devices that can store particulate (powders, pills) forms of these drugs and release them in a close loop manner based on wireless inputs from sensors.
    3. Wearable sensors: Wearables to detect biophysical (temperature, flow, cardiac activity) and biochemical markers of health are gaining importance for closed-loop disease management and personalized medicine. We design hardware for on-chip molecular profiling based on sampling biofluids in noninvasive or minimally invasive formats.
    4. New wireless power architectures for implantable bioelectronics: We develop high-power, high-efficiency strongly coupled power harvesting system to power battery-free implant systems.

    BioDr. Krist's research examines how science learning environments can be structured to support students' epistemic agency, sense of belonging, and authority as knowers, with particular attention to students and communities who are systematically marginalized in STEM. This work spans three levels of design: classroom practice, course structure, and community partnership. Her projects include developing professional development models that support K-12 teachers in building community partnerships for justice-centered science teaching, supporting the structural redesign of introductory undergraduate STEM courses to strengthen students' epistemologies and sense of belonging, and collaborative work with families and local communities to drive educational transformation. Several current projects extend this agenda to new domains, including the use of generative AI to support teacher planning and the development of strengths-based approaches to understanding student engagement.

    Dr. Krist received her PhD in Learning Sciences from Northwestern University in 2016 and was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Maryland from 2016-2017. Her early career work has been supported by an NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship as well as grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. She was recently recognized with NARST’s 2023 Early Career Research Award.

    BioProfessor Kroo's research involves work in three general areas: multidisciplinary optimization and aircraft synthesis, unconventional aircraft, and low-speed aerodynamics. Current research in the field of aircraft synthesis, sponsored by NASA and industry, includes the development of a new computational architecture for aircraft design, and its integration with numerical optimization. Studies of unconventional configurations employ rapid turnaround analysis methods in the design of efficient subsonic and supersonic commercial aircraft. Recent research has included investigation of configurations such as joined wings, oblique wings, and tailless aircraft. Nonlinear low-speed aerodynamics studies have focused on vortex wake roll-up, refined computation of induced drag, the design of wing tips, and the aerodynamics of maneuvering aircraft.

    BioJon Krosnick is a social psychologist who does research on attitude formation, change, and effects, on the psychology of political behavior, and on survey research methods. He is the Frederic O. Glover Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor of Communication, Political Science, Environmental Social Sciences, and (by courtesy) Psychology. He directs Stanford's Political Psychology Research Group and has directed the Summer Institute in Political Psychology.

    Research Interests
    Author of seven published books and two forthcoming books and more than 190 articles and chapters, Dr. Krosnick conducts research in three primary areas: (1) attitude formation, change, and effects, (2) the psychology of political behavior, and (3) the optimal design of questionnaires used for laboratory experiments and surveys, and survey research methodology more generally.

    His attitude research has focused primarily on the notion of attitude strength, seeking to differentiate attitudes that are firmly crystallized and powerfully influential of thinking and action from attitudes that are flexible and inconsequential. Many of his studies in this area have focused on the amount of personal importance that an individual chooses to attach to an attitude. Dr. Krosnick’s studies have illuminated the origins of attitude importance (e.g., material self-interest and values) and the cognitive and behavioral consequences of importance in regulating attitude impact and attitude change processes.

    Honors
    Winner of the American Association for Public Opinion Research’s Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding research, and the Nevitt Sanford Award from the International Society of Political Psychology, Dr. Krosnick’s scholarship has been recognized by election as a fellow by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Erik Erikson Award for Excellence and Creativity in the Field of Political Psychology from the International Society of Political Psychology, two fellowships at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, the Phillip Brickman Memorial Prize for Research in Social Psychology, and the American Political Science Association’s Best Paper Award.

    Sara Marie Krzyzaniak

    Clinical Professor, Emergency Medicine

    BioSara M. Krzyzaniak, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Program Director for the Stanford Emergency Medicine Residency. She has held progressive leadership roles in undergraduate and graduate medical education since completing her Emergency Medicine residency training at Denver Health Medical Center, with prior faculty appointments at the University of Illinois College of Medicine before joining Stanford.

    Dr. Krzyzaniak’s scholarly work focuses on medical education, with particular emphasis on gender equity, assessment and feedback, faculty development, and leadership training within academic medicine. She has authored more than forty peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and several volumes within the Education Theory Made Practical series. Her academic contributions also include more than one hundred invited national and international presentations.

    At Stanford, Dr. Krzyzaniak teaches and mentors across all stages of medical education and holds administrative, curricular, and clinical teaching responsibilities. She serves on numerous institutional and national committees, contributes as an editorial board member and ad hoc reviewer for journals in both emergency medicine and medical education, and maintains an active portfolio of professional service. Her leadership and educational contributions have been recognized through multiple national awards for teaching excellence, mentorship, and program leadership.

    Dr. Krzyzaniak’s work is characterized by a sustained commitment to advancing the training of future emergency physicians, strengthening the academic mission of emergency medicine, and contributing to the broader scholarship of medical education.

    BioMike Kuiken is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution and serves as Vice Chair of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

    In the private sector, Mike is the Managing Member of Silver Valley Strategies, where he advises founders, CEOs, and investors on geopolitical and government strategies. He is an advisor to the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP) and a member of Anthropic's National Security and Public Sector Advisory Council. He serves on the boards of the National Defense Industrial Association and the Planetary Science Institute. His writing has appeared in the Financial Times, Newsweek, and the Boston Globe.

    Mike previously served as Senate Majority Leader Schumer's National Security Advisor. He was a 'Gang of Eight' staffer for over seven years. He architected the legislative strategy to pass the CHIPS and Science Act and played a key role in establishing the Senate's Artificial Intelligence Insight Forums. Prior to the Leader's office, Mike spent over a decade on the Senate Armed Services Committee, a career that began with the late Senator Carl Levin.

    His work has spanned the most consequential challenges of the post-9/11 era—from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to today's strategic competition with China. He has shaped U.S. responses to the Arab Spring, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, economic statecraft, and strategic cyber competition, working on the ground in over 85 countries to bring a frontline perspective to national policy.

    Mike earned his B.A. in Political Science and Economics from Calvin University and his M.A. in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University.
