Mike Lin

Mike Lin is an investor, engineer, and serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in design thinking, startups, and venture capital. Mike is a Lecturer at Stanford's Doerr School of Sustainability, where he teaches SUST 234: Integrative Design and Entrepreneurship for Sustainability.
Mike is also co-founder and General Partner at Dangerous Ventures. Dangerous invests in early-stage startups building a more sustainable and resilient future. Dangerous focuses on scalable systems-transforming solutions that empower people, the planet, and society to be more resilient and thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
Prior to working in venture capital, he was Founder and CEO of Fenix International, a renewable energy and fintech startup that currently powers over 15.5 million people across nine countries. He raised over $45M in venture capital and venture debt, developed patented energy technologies, and forged strategic partnerships with Google and the world’s largest mobile telecoms, including Vodafone, Orange, and MTN, to deliver life-changing energy to frontier markets. Fenix grew to over 350 employees and was successfully acquired in April 2018 by Engie, one of the world’s largest utilities.
Mike believes that business can be a vehicle for positive change, combining his passion for social and environmental prosperity with design thinking, business strategy, and new product development. He is a serial entrepreneur and worked at Makani Power (acquired by Google) and Squid Labs, a startup studio (Instructables, acquired by Autodesk). He has worked with Apple on climate change and environmental technologies, Al Gore on the “Inconvenient Truth” presentation, and lectured on green design and entrepreneurship at Stanford and Yale.
Mike has six patents, has received over $1.7M in grants from the US Environmental Protection Agency and UK Government, awards from the Rockefeller Foundation, Aspen Institute, BusinessWeek, and Popular Science, and has been featured in The New York Times, Bloomberg, Forbes, Wired, The Guardian, and others. Mike earned an MS and BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
He is an Eagle Scout, a champion Junior Olympic Archer, and co-founder of the Stanford University Archery team. He enjoys spending time with his family outdoors, mountain biking, growing food, and cooking over an open fire. -

Yu Lin

Tom Linker

BioI am an Associate Scientist at SLAC National Lab. I utilize mutliscale simulations and machine learning to understand light matter interaction for ultrafast X-ray experiments performed at X-ray light sources around the world.
I am currently interested in development of attosecond non-linear x-ray emission spectroscopy techniques with the ultimate goal of exploring photochemistry in biological and catalytic systems. I am also developing molecular dynamics frameworks and X-ray scattering/spectroscopy experiments for excited state chemistry at nanoparticle surfaces for new energy technologies. -

Bernadette Liu

BioBernadette Liu oversees management of multiple administrative areas within the Stanford University Libraries, including financial operations, annual consolidated budget planning, research administration, capital planning, and facilities services. Reporting directly to the University Librarian, Bernadette serves as a member of the Libraries’ executive leadership team, providing input and guidance on the Libraries’ overall financial position and strategic direction.
Bernadette’s more than twenty years of experience at Stanford spans numerous, diverse areas of the enterprise. She has held financial leadership roles in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Department of Psychiatry. During a six-year stint at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (now Stanford Children’s Health), Bernadette played a key role in the planning and implementation of major strategic initiatives, including the complete redesign of the professional services funds flow model between the hospital and the School of Medicine. She also served for four years in the Office of Sponsored Research, holding both pre-award and post-award staffing positions.

Her research interests include premodern Chinese literature, cultural and intellectual history; gender and sexuality; emotions, literary and political culture. Her research examines how emotions are invoked or invented to constitute interpersonal ties in 3rd - 6th century China. Working with official histories, commentaries, inscriptions, and literary works, her project explores the reconceptualization of identity and community in emotive terms and the signification of emotion as the legitimizing basis for a new social order in medieval China.

BioDr. Liu is a board-certified primary care pediatrician, fellowship trained sports medicine specialist (peds and adults), and registered in musculoskeletal ultrasonography. He aims to help patients become healthier, more active, while staying safe and in less pain.
He got his Bachelor’s from Johns Hopkins University, and medical degree and pediatrics training, including a Chief Instructor year, at Penn State. He then did a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado, where he helped in the care of several notable professional teams including Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, and Colorado Avalanche. Prior to joining Stanford UMP, he was the APD of the LSU Shreveport Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, where in addition to leading the didactics curriculum, he was also co-head team physician for Grambling State University, medical director for a USA Judo tournament, and ringside physician for USA Boxing amongst many other roles.
Dr. Liu is known nationally in the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, serving past roles including the Pediatric Residency Representative, Fellowship Class Representative, Co-chair of the Pediatric Curriculum Subcommittee, Co-Chair of the SportsMedRef Subcommittee, and is currently the Chair of the Special Interest Group Subcommittee.
Outside of work, Dr. Liu enjoys training martial arts and hiking with his wife and dogs.
