William Rowland Goodyer, MD/PhD
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Cardiology)
BioDr. Goodyer is a physician scientist who specializes in Pediatric Cardiology and Electrophysiology. Will graduated from McGill University (Montreal, Canada) with a BSc in Biology prior to completing his graduate studies at Stanford University in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). He subsequently completed residency training in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital before returning to Stanford to complete a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology and advanced fellowship in Pediatric Electrophysiology. He additionally performed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Sean Wu laboratory at the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute where he developed the first comprehensive single-cell gene atlas of the entire murine cardiac conduction system (CCS) as well as pioneered the generation of optical imaging agents for the real-time visualization of the CCS to help prevent accidental surgical damage during heart surgeries. Will's lab (www.goodyerlab.com) focuses on basic science advances aimed at the improved diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.

BioI am a Computer Science student with a passion for building technology that solves real problems. My work ranges from co-founding MedAI, a healthcare startup helping doctors treat children on immunosuppressive therapy, to organizing charitable marathons and leading startup workshops for over 300 students across multiple universities.
Currently, I am a Research Analyst at the Stanford Venture Capital Initiative, working in an international team to analyze how innovation and investment intersect. This role has challenged me to think globally, collaborate across cultures, and tackle complex questions that may influence the future of entrepreneurship.
My projects have received national innovation grants and have been featured in private clinics, proving that impact can start small but scale fast with the right team and vision. I thrive at the intersection of product thinking, IT systems, and research, and I enjoy creating environments - whether in tech, education, or community events - where people can grow their ideas into reality.
Beyond tech and entrepreneurship, I am deeply interested in the stock market, cryptocurrencies, and Web3 technologies. I see them not only as financial instruments, but as powerful tools for creating new, decentralized economic models.

Current Role at StanfordJeff Gordon is the Senior Associate Director of Corporate Relations in Stanford’s School of Engineering. In this role he works with faculty and colleagues to advance the School's corporate partnership programs, build long-term relationships with companies, and increase the flow of industry support to the School through gifts, affiliate memberships, and sponsored research. He assists with the formation and growth of industrial affiliate programs that provide companies a portal for connecting with Stanford's research community in areas of shared interests.He serves on Advisory Board of many of Stanford's largest clubs and project-based student groups. Prior to joining Stanford Engineering he served as Senior Director of Program Development and External Partnerships at the San Jose State University Research Foundation where he facilitated increased support to San Jose State’s research and academic programs across multiple academic disciplines. He also held strategy, business development, marketing and sales positions during a successful career in the telecommunications sector. Prior career experience includes serving as Pacific Bell Sales Vice President and Director of Broadband Services, Strategy and Product Marketing He as been consultant to many tech-based entrepreneurial ventures and served as Director of Industry Relations for Silicon Valley start-up IPWireless. He has also provided business/market development and strategic consulting services to private and public sector, as well as non-profit clients. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from San Diego State University, and M.A. in Public Policy Analysis from Claremont Graduate University. He also was a Coro Public Affairs Leadership Fellow.

My research focuses on developing effective psychotherapy interventions to reduce chronic stress as well as enhance positive health behaviors to reduce morbidity and mortality among patients coping with chronic, medical illnesses which are often life threatening.

As a hydrologist, my research involves the study of water resources and water security with emphasis on freshwater. I direct the Global Freshwater Initiative, which studies water resources vulnerability problems throughout the world. We investigate the impacts of droughts on water-stressed regions by developing coupled human-natural systems models that explore the effects of climate, land-use, and demographic changes on urban and agricultural regions. We have produced useful tools to aid in sustainable agricultural and urban water management in the western US, Mexico, India, Jordan, and Vietnam. Although driven by observations, our conceptual and quantitative models lead us to rigorous understanding of physical processes, enable us to make predictions, and explore new water management policies, involving taxes, quotas, subsidies, water rights, and water markets. Such models have provided means to better quantify the influence of droughts and floods, particularly on vulnerable communities and then importantly to identify equitable water management strategies. .

. I teach courses for graduate and undergraduate students involving principles and methods used in physical and contaminant hydrogeology. In addition, I run a seminar series that exposes students to a variety of multidisciplinary topics involving hydrology and water resources. .

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsGorle's research focuses on the development of predictive flow simulations to support the design of sustainable buildings and cities. Specific topics of interest are the coupling of large- and small-scale models and experiments to quantify uncertainties related to the variability of boundary conditions, the development of uncertainty quantification methods for low-fidelity models using high-fidelity data, and the use of field measurements to validate and improve computational predictions.
