Graduate Program Assistant, GSE Dean's OfficeBioAlexandrea Henry is a Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate School of Education in the Race, Inequality, and Language in Education and Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education programs. They earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a minor in education from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Alexandrea’s research draws on Black studies, Critical Pedagogy, and studies of Carceral Logics in education to examine how young people make sense of power through disciplinary practices at school. Moreover, she is interested in centering the experiences and expertise of K-2 students in the fight for liberatory learning spaces. While at Stanford, Alexandrea has worked on the Accessible Ethnic Studies, Newberry Institute, and Juvenile Justice and Alternative Education projects. She has also taught in San Bruno Jail and served as a Systems Navigator with the Santa Clara Public Defender's Office. Previously, they were a public school teacher and union organizer in North Philadelphia, a preschool teacher in Oakland, and has worked on district-level projects related to equity and professional development. Ultimately, she believes in advocating for and co-creating worlds where every person is free, from the River to the Sea.

Aoife Henry

BioAoife Henry earned her doctorate in Electrical, Computer & Energy Engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder, funded by and in collaboration with the wind energy control systems team at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). During her doctorate, she applied her joint specializations of machine learning and control systems to implement and validate forecast-enabled wind energy controllers using state-of-the-art time-series forecasting models. She is now working to commercialize and scale this technology under the wing of the Stanford Sustainability Accelerator Fellowship at the Doerr School of Sustainability.

Meredith A. Henstridge
Associate Scientist, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
BioMeredith received a PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Michigan in 2018 and held a position as a postdoctoral scientist at the Max Planck Institute for the Structure of Dynamics and Matter in Hamburg, Germany from 2018-2022. Her expertise spans across the interfacing of metamaterials with nonlinear optics, spontaneous and coherent Raman scattering, nonlinear phononics, and ferroelectrics.
Meredith's current research at SLAC focuses on developing near-field-based approaches for delivering high-field mid-infrared and THz-frequency sources for experiments with LCLS-II, the development of efficient laser-driven devices for enabling high temporal-resolution experiments at the Ultrafast Electron Diffraction (MEV-UED) beamline, and efforts towards realizing an electron beam-based source that can deliver multi-cycle mid-infrared pulses at both high energies and high repetition rates for experiments with LCLS-II.
Meredith is one of the primary SLAC laser scientists supporting time-resolved experiments on the X-ray Pump-Probe (XPP) beamline, and she also supports the laser team at the Macromolecular Femtosecond Crystallography (MFX) beamline.

BioBesides being a visiting fellow at Stanford University, Communication Department, I am a professor of media and communications, Head of ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research, University of Bremen, Germany, and spokesperson of the Research Unit 5656 “Communicative AI: The Automation of Societal Communication”.
My research and my teaching focuses on how media change and transformations in the way we communicate are interrelated with refigurations within culture and society. To adequately define this scenario, I harness the terminology of deep mediatization.
Deep mediatization research connects to a range of other areas such as the role algorithms play in contemporary society, data and the datafication of communication, the influence of pioneers and pioneer communities on media-related developments, the emergence of new kinds of publics at the local, national and transnational level, the increasing role automation and communicative AI play in everyday communications, and the everyday use and appropriation of media by different media generations.

Flavio Herberg de Alonso

BioDr. Alonso has over 10 years of experience in veterinary clinical pathology and multiple years of experience with hematology of laboratory animals and teaching students at many levels and from different backgrounds. After gaining his DVM degree from the University of Brasilia in 2012 which included an international academic exchange at the Universidade do Porto (Portugal, 2009), Dr. Alonso completed an internship in Veterinary Clinical Pathology and a PhD in laboratory medicine and pathology at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Brazil, 2018). He then pursued a Clinical Pathology residency program at the UC Davis School of Veterinary medicine (USA, 2021). Dr. Alonso worked many years in the private sector as a clinical pathologist at veterinary laboratories, such as Zoetis (USA) and TECSA (Brazil), before entering academia. Nowadays Dr. Alonso is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine (USA) and the clinical pathologist and director of the Animal Diagnostic Lab in the Veterinary Service Center of the Department of Comparative Medicine. On the subject of Hematology of Laboratory Animals, he is actively collaborating and submitting grant proposals to relevant research projects, publishing peer-reviewed papers and lecturing around California, the US and the Americas.

Her research investigates decision-making in the face of environmental risk. She completed her Ph.D. in 2020 at the Annenberg School for Communication, where she researched health and science communication with a focus on communicating scientific uncertainty. Natalie was a Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellow at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

Rachel E. Herdes

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAs a pediatric physician-investigator, I strive to understand the role of nutrition and diet therapy in pediatric health. I am particularly interested in understanding and developing novel treatment plans for adolescent patients with obesity and in establishing guidelines to improve health outcomes for pediatric intestinal failure patients.
Current research studies include novel treatment options for pediatric metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), health equity in pediatric patients with intestinal failure, and medication management after metabolic and bariatric surgery in pediatric patients with severe obesity. -
Charlie Heriot-Maitland

BioDr Heriot-Maitland is a clinical psychologist, trainer, researcher, and author. He is an international expert in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and specifically the application of CFT for voice-hearing, trauma, and for people with psychosis and complex needs. Dr Heriot-Maitland is an experienced CFT therapist himself, and for the last 10 years has been leading the international development, research, and training of CFT for psychosis. His clinical research in this area has been mainly carried out at King’s College London and University of Glasgow, supported by funding from the UK Medical Research Council.
Dr Heriot-Maitland has published extensively on the theory and application of CFT in academic journals, produced videos and training materials, and has co-authored a self-help book on CFT for voice-hearers (Routledge, 2022). He has also developed novel and innovative interventions, based on CFT, for applications in different sectors (e.g., healthcare, social care, and education). Since 2012, he has been co-director of a UK organisation, Balanced Minds, which specialises in providing CFT therapy and resources for the general public and CFT training and supervision for professionals. He has been delivering training sessions at Stanford since 2019, and has held an Adjunct Lecturer appointment with the university since 2022.
