Marion S. Buckwalter, MD, PhD

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe goal of the Buckwalter Lab is to improve how people recover after a stroke. We use basic and clinical research to understand the cells, proteins, and genes that lead to successful recovery of function, and also how complications develop that impact quality of life after stroke. Ongoing projects are focused on understanding how inflammatory responses are regulated after a stroke and how they affect short-term brain injury and long term outcomes like dementia and depression.

Sujatha Buddhe

Clinical Associate Professor (By courtesy), Radiology - Pediatric RadiologyBioDr. Buddhe earned her medical degree from the Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, India. She completed her pediatrics residency and chief residency at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, NY and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Michigan. Her advanced fellowship training in pediatric cardiac non-invasive imaging was completed at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in New York. She earned her Masters degree in Clinical research and statistical analysis at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She worked at Seattle Children's Hospital, University of Washington for almost ten years where she served as the Director of Non-invasive Imaging research and the Co-Director of cardiac MRI program. Her research interests include echocardiography and Cardiac MRI.

BioKelly Bugos MS, ANP-BC is a Director for the Center for Advanced Practice and a nurse practitioner specializing in cancer survivorship at Stanford Health Care. Ms. Bugos is the Director of Professional Development and the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship Program. As director, Ms. Bugos focuses on APP leadership development. Opened in 2016, the APP Fellowship Program educates and trains APPs in transition to professional practice and specialty care, like administration and cancer care. She founded the cancer survivorship clinics at Stanford in 2012 and continues to focus her clinical work on helping people touched by cancer restore their health after treatment. Ms. Bugos has developed other professional roles and programs over her career at Stanford, like the nurse practitioner position in the 1990s. She has expertise in leadership of advanced practice providers, complex patient care in the outpatient setting, long term and late effects of cancer and its treatment, including symptom management. She is a frequent speaker and author on these topics at the regional and national level.

Nam Quoc Bui
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Oncology
BioDr. Bui is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Stanford Cancer Institute and a specialist in Sarcoma. Dr. Bui earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at Stanford University and went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He completed Internal Medicine residency at Stanford Hospital and Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the University of California San Diego, where he performed extensive research in bioinformatics to analyze tumor sequencing data.
His research background and interests are in the field of bioinformatics as applied to large data sets and the study of novel compounds in rare malignancies. He is involved in numerous sarcoma clinical trials, leading efforts to take new therapeutics from the lab to clinical practice. He also is involved in education at the Stanford University School of Medicine, serving as a lecturer and mentor to students and trainees. Dr. Bui is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Current Problems in Cancer: Case Reports”, an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes groundbreaking cases that give insight into redefining concepts in cancer. -

Jeffrey Bunker

Fellow in Graduate Medical EducationBioJeffrey Bunker is an infectious diseases physician-scientist, immunologist, and microbiologist. He is currently a clinical fellow in infectious diseases at Stanford University; he previously completed residency training in internal medicine at Stanford University and an M.D. and Ph.D. in immunology at the University of Chicago. Bunker’s research investigates interactions between the microbiome and the immune system, including fundamental questions about how and why certain microbes generate immune responses and how this interplay influences both normal homeostasis and infectious or inflammatory diseases. His clinical interests include microbial pathogenesis, antimicrobial resistance, and the diagnosis and treatment of complex infections.

Kristen Burda

BioKristen Faye Burda is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She provides psychotherapeutic interventions to promote sleep health in the Sleep Health and Insomnia Program and is engaged in related research. Dr. Burda's professional interests also include post-traumatic stress and post-traumatic growth, and she seeks to understand the intersection between sleep disorders and post-traumatic hyperarousal and emotional distress. She utilizes and aims to develop digital tools to accessibly and effectively facilitate psychological well-being.

Dr. Burgart specializes in pediatric anesthesia and pediatric abdominal transplant anesthesia. She has a special interest in transplantation, PANS/PANDAS, spinal muscular atrophy, and trauma. Dr. Burgart is committed to finding the most successful way for each child to interact with the anesthesia team, to create an overall positive experience. She champions children with unique needs, such as those with sensory integration differences.
Dr. Burgart has a joint appointment in the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics, serves as the Co-Chair of the LPCH Ethics Committee, and as a member of the SHC Ethics Committee. She provides ethics consultation services for people of all ages. Her ethics interests include pediatric ethics, organ transplantation, communication skills, disability rights, women's healthcare access, adolescent decision-making, ethics education, and excellence in ethics consultation.
