Michael S Hahn
Unit/Program Communicator, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
BioI like to write about lots of things. And I'm lucky because I get to do it professionally.
These days, I write about people and the causes they champion at a national lab called SLAC.
I've also written for academic departments and archival collections, grant and fundraising activities, technical working groups, and research efforts, to name a few.
I'm a wannabe-physicist-turned-communicator who loves storytelling, and I have a master's degree in history to help me do it. I'm a student of the complexities of large organizations, particularly of the scientific kind, observing the mechanisms and people that make them what they are today.
The arc of my career spans communications, publishing, higher education, fine arts and oral history. It’s led to meaningful and challenging work in places like Los Angeles, the Bay Area and Chicago.
I'm at my best when I'm entrusted to do good work. -
Bereketeab Haileselassie
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Critical Care)
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy laboratory is focused on understanding the cellular mechanisms which mediate end-organ failure in pediatric sepsis. Our current work focuses on determining the role of altered mitochondrial dynamics in sepsis-induced multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Specifically, we focus on understanding the mechanisms that mediate derangements in mitochondrial fission and autophagy in sepsis.

Maximilian Haist
Postdoctoral Scholar, Microbiology and Immunology
BioDr. Haist is a clinician scientist who explores the tumor microenvironment of advanced skin cancer patients to identify predictive biomarkers and immunological signatures using single-cell multiplexing technologies. As a Ph.D. student, Dr. Haist investigated the role of tumor hypoxia and the adenosine system in patients with melanoma brain metastases treated with combined radiochemotherapy. Currently, Dr Haist is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Garry Nolan´s lab and comes with interest in multiplex technologies to analyze the organization of effective anti-tumor immune responses within the tumor microenvironment.
