Vanessa Kennedy

BioDr. Kennedy is a board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of myeloid malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and myelofibrosis (MF). She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Blood and Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy, at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kennedy's research focuses on the use of clinical informatics and bioinformatics in understanding cancer biology and improving patient outcomes. She is also actively involved in interventional clinical trials. Her work has been supported by grant funding from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the Chan-Zuckerberg Foundation. -
Thomas Kenny

BioKenny's group is researching fundamental issues and applications of micromechanical structures. These devices are usually fabricated from silicon wafers using integrated circuit fabrication tools. Using these techniques, the group builds sensitive accelerometers, infrared detectors, and force-sensing cantilevers. This research has many applications, including integrated packaging, inertial navigation, fundamental force measurements, experiments on bio-molecules, device cooling, bio-analytical instruments, and small robots. Because this research field is multidisciplinary in nature, work in this group is characterized by strong collaborations with other departments, as well as with local industry.

BioAs the Judaica and Hebraica curator, I select and collect material by or about Jews, in any format (from manuscript fragments to Israeli Yiddish theater posters and spiral-bound community cookbooks), in any language, produced anywhere. I also collect material written or performed in Jewish languages (Hebrew, Yiddish, Judeo-Arabic, Ladino, etc.) about any topic. I work with faculty and students to help them find the materials they need for their research and teaching.

Wayne Kepner

BioWayne Kepner, PhD, MPH is a public health researcher whose scholarship focuses on health disparities and substance use among vulnerable populations. Dr. Kepner is currently a T-32 Post-doctoral Fellowship in Pain and Substance Use at Stanford University's School of Medicine, where he will continue his research under the mentorship of Dr. Keith Humphreys and Dr. Mark McGovern.
Dr. Kepner received his doctoral degree from the Joint Doctoral Program in Interdisciplinary Research on Substance Use at San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego. His research focused on substance use disorders, health services utilization, and geospatial analysis of health data, with a particular emphasis on older adult populations. Dr. Kepner has extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, having conducted interviews with older adults on cannabis use and analyzed large-scale electronic health records. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications on topics ranging from cannabis use trends to emergency department utilization for substance-related diagnoses. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Kepner is committed to community engagement, co-founding Aztecs For Recovery, a collegiate recovery program at SDSU. -

Andreas Kerschbaumer
Postdoctoral Scholar, Immunology and Rheumatology
BioDr. Andreas Kerschbaumer is a postdoctoral scholar in the Division of Immunology and Rheumatology at Stanford University, conducting research in the Robinson and Khatri Labs. His work integrates clinical rheumatology with computational and systems immunology, applying meta-analytic techniques on transcriptomic datasets to uncover mechanisms of autoimmunity and improve therapeutic strategies in rheumatology.
He trained in internal medicine and rheumatology at the Medical University of Vienna, Department of Medicine III, Division of Rheumatology, where he also completed his PhD under Professors Smolen and Aletaha on treatment outcomes in inflammatory arthritis, followed by his habilitation on strategies to optimize the interpretation of clinical trial data in rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis.
Dr. Kerschbaumer has been actively engaged with the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR), contributing as Fellow, Methodologist, and Co-Methodologist to multiple international taskforces, including the 2019, 2022, and 2025 rheumatoid arthritis recommendations and the 2019 and 2023 psoriatic arthritis recommendations. He is currently a member of the EULAR Quality of Care Committee and serves as Co-Abstract Chair of the ACR Rheumatoid Arthritis abstract committee. -
Ali Keshavarzi

BioAli Keshavarzi, Ph.D. is an Adjunct Professor in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. Ali is involved in scholarly research and is an advisor to Stanford SystemX IoE Research (IoE = Internet of Everything). Currently Ali is a DARPA program manager in Microsystems Technology Office (MTO) defining impactful research frontiers in microelectronics. Ali is working on Software Defined Hardware (SDH) Program and on Foundation Required for Novel Compute (FRANC) Program while defining new concepts to push research forward on the technology, computing architecture, and data-centric application domains. Before his current role at DARPA, Ali was working with DARPA as an advisor and subject matter expert on the Electronic Resurgence Initiative (ERI). Ali is a member of DARPA MTO Investor Working Board (IWB) and the Embedded Entrepreneurship Initiative (EEI). Ali is a principal and the founder of Leading Edge Research LLC, Los Altos, CA.
Ali is a technology visionary and a leader who has been at the forefront of technology innovation with a track record of delivering critical process technologies, devices, circuits, SoCs, and modules to the semiconductor industry. Ali was the Vice President of R&D and a Fellow at Cypress Semiconductor and held various positions at Intel, TSMC, and GLOBALFOUNDRIES in a variety of technical and leadership roles over 25 years. Ali was a visiting research professor at UC Berkeley from 2017 to 2018.
Ali is an IEEE Fellow. He has over 60 U.S. patents, over 70 peer reviewed papers, has received best-paper awards and the best-panel award at ISSCC, most paper citation awards from DAC and IEDM. He has served in TPC of IEDM and ISSCC and has been the general chair of ISLPED. He received the prestigious Intel Achievement Award (IAA). Ali was awarded a distinguished Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer (OECE) of Purdue University.

Joe Kesler
Ph.D. Student in Biology, admitted Autumn 2024
BioI am a Ph.D. student studying evolutionary ecology and biogeography in the Daru Lab. My research focuses on how species assemblages evolve and shift with changing environments across temporal and spatial scales. My current project integrates biogeographic analyses and phylogenetic data to understand the evolutionary and ecological forces shaping the biodiversity of the world's marine life.
In June 2023, I received a B.S. in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution from UC San Diego, where I worked primarily with Professor Elsa Cleland, researching the demography of the California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) and how its traits vary across different climates within the state. I also participated in two other labs, broadly investigating plant-pollinator interactions and plant genetics respectively. After graduating, I assisted the Green Biome Institute at CSU East Bay by collecting DNA samples of endangered California plant species, followed by work as a habitat restoration technician for Recon Environmental in the marshes around the San Francisco Bay Area.
In the Daru Lab, I am excited to investigate how marine species respond to environmental changes over varied timescales, with the ultimate goal of informing habitat restoration management and conserving biodiversity worldwide. -

Elizabeth Kessler

BioElizabeth Kessler’s research and teaching focus on twentieth and twenty-first century American visual culture. Her diverse interests include: the role of aesthetics, visual culture, and media in modern and contemporary science, especially astronomy; the interchange between technology and ways of seeing and representing; the history of photography; and the representation of fashion in different media. Her first book, Picturing the Cosmos: Hubble Space Telescope Images and the Astronomical Sublime, on the aesthetics of deep space images, was published in 2012. She’s currently writing on book on extraterrestrial time capsules, as well as developing a new project on fashion photography.

Alex Ketley
Advanced Lecturer
BioAlex Ketley is an independent choreographer, filmmaker, and the director of The Foundry. Formerly a classical dancer with the San Francisco Ballet and LINES Ballet, he left dancing professionally to create The Foundry as a platform to explore his interests in alternative methods of devising performance. The company has allowed Ketley the freedom to pursue projects that would be difficult to realize within his commissioning career. A few examples of these are: Syntax, an hour long duet systemically using the mechanics of language as an organizing mechanism; Lost Line researched how the application of environment affects the generation of movement and studied in direct response to California's diverse physical landscapes; Please Love Me jettisoned the structure of performing in a theater context and was developed with a curiosity about how people genuinely connect and experience artwork; the No Hero Trilogy which was a multi-year project that explored what dance and performance means to the lives of people living throughout rural America, and Distal Imprint was a film created in collaboration with artist and Death-Row inmate Bill Clark. The Foundry’s diverse work has been enthusiastically received by audiences, the press, and funders.
For his independent work as a choreographer he has been commissioned extensively throughout the United States, as well as projects in Germany and Italy, and has received acknowledgement from the Hubbard Street National Choreographic Competition, the International Choreographic Competition of the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, the Choo-San Goh Award, the Princess Grace Award for Choreography, four Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography Residencies, the Gerbode-Hewlett Choreographer Award, the Eben Demarest Award, the National Choreographic Initiative Residency, a Kenneth Rainin Foundation New and Experimental Works Grant, three CHIME Fellowships, the Artistry Award from the Superfest International Disability Film Festival, and his work was featured on national television through an invitation from the show So You Think You Can Dance. His pieces and collaborations have also been awarded Isadora Duncan Awards for Outstanding Achievement in the categories of; Choreography, Company, and Ensemble, as well as nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Visual Design. In 2020 he became a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, one of the most prestigious honors in the United States recognizing “individuals who have demonstrated exceptional creative ability in the arts”.
As an educator he has taught extensively throughout the country and currently holds the position of Advanced Lecturer at Stanford University’s Theater and Performance Studies Department. He was the founding Resident Choreographer at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance for fourteen years until its closure in 2018.
Since 2020 he has been collaborating with his friend Bill Clark who is a prolific artist and writer that has been incarcerated on Death Row for the past 33 years. Alex invited Bill as a guest for his Stanford University class called DanceAcution: Performance Practice, Death Row, and the Evolution of Cultural Reform. The class used Bill’s vast experience as an artist and incarcerated individual as the platform for the students to develop new performance work. Bill is now collaborating with The Foundry on a new evening length work titled An Approximation of Resilience set to premiere in 2025. The project has won the prestigious National Dance Project Award from the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) and generous support from the Luger Charitable Trust.
He is also on the Board of Directors of Death Penalty Focus, an organization whose work focuses on abolishing both the death penalty and LWOP (Life Without Parole). -
Kian Keyashian

BioThe management of inflammatory bowel disease continues to evolve, with the introduction of biologic and small molecule therapies and new goals of treatment, with an emphasis on healing the bowel. My career goal since my graduation from IBD fellowship in 2012 has been to improve the outcomes and quality of life of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. In line with these goals, my research has focused investigating new noninvasive diagnostic test, finding factors early in the disease course that might predict a more aggressive disease course and need for different therapies, and investigating new promising effective medications with less side effects.

Timothy Keyes

MSTP StudentBioTimothy is an MD/PhD student studying cancer biology and biomedical informatics at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is a joint member of Kara Davis's laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics and Garry Nolan's Laboratory in the Department of Pathology.
As a biomedical data scientist, Timothy's research focuses on the application of machine learning to single-cell data analysis in the context of pediatric leukemia. Through the use of emerging, high-throughout single-cell technologies such as mass cytometry and sequence-based cytometry, Timothy's research is designed to build predictive models of patient outcomes - such as relapse or minimal residual disease (MRD) - at the point of diagnosis. To do so, he uses a variety of computational tools including generalized linear models, clustering, and deep learning. In addition, his work prioritizes constructing easy-to-use, highly-reproducible data analysis pipelines that can be shared as open-source tools for the scientific community.
Outside of science, Timothy has a longstanding interest in human rights and social justice work among members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) community. He currently serves as the resident data scientist for the Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion for LGBTQ+ medicals students in medical schools across the United States. As a data scientist at MSPA, Timothy analyzes and visualizes data to guide MSPA's strategic decision-making as well as for academic publication. He also advises and mentors other student members of MSPA performing data analysis in Python and R.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Timothy has received several institutional and national award for both research and advocacy. These include a National Research Service Award (NRSA) from the National Cancer Institute, a Junior Leadership Award from the Building the Next Generation of Academic Physicians (BNGAP) LGBT Workforce, Stanford Medicine’s Integrated Strategic Plan Star Award, and a Point Foundation Scholarship. -

BioDr. Steve Khachi is a double-board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry. He is the Founder and Medical Director of the Mind Study Center in Pasadena, California—an integrated mental health clinic offering psychotherapy, medication management, neuropsychological evaluations, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). His clinic emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, clinical excellence, and innovation in care delivery.
Dr. Khachi serves as Adjunct Clinical Faculty at both Stanford University and the University of Southern California (USC), where he teaches and supervises child psychiatry fellows and residents. He is passionate about education and mentorship, and is committed to advancing the next generation of clinicians.
Dr. Khachi completed his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Stanford University, where he served as Chief Fellow. He completed residency in General Psychiatry at UC San Diego, received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and earned his B.S. in Biochemistry–Molecular Biology from UC Santa Barbara. His additional training includes research fellowships at UCSF and the NIH/Howard Hughes Medical Institute. -
Kevin Khadavi

BioI'm a member of the Class of 2026 at Stanford University, studying classics, history, and politics. I’m a seasoned public speaker with experience in speechwriting, research (both in the sciences and humanities), debate, and communication.
I’m a published author of historical papers and have undertaken numerous oral history projects with prominent historical figures, including Vice President Walter F. Mondale and Freedom Rider Jerome Smith; the topics of my work range from the 2nd Russo-Persian War to the 1963 meeting between James Baldwin and Robert Kennedy. I also have experience lecturing on military history.
I am deeply passionate about addressing societal challenges in our country and around the world. I care particularly about education inequality—what I believe is the root of many other societal problems—and am devoting time and energy to this cause through my work with RFK Human Rights and the Memorial Foundation.
In my free time, I enjoy listening to historical speeches (RFK’s Cleveland City Club Address is my favorite), reading Stoic philosophy, and jumping into Stanford’s fountains. I’m fascinated by spaceflight and am a big fan of Transcendental poetry. -
Khizer Khaderi MD, MPH

BioDr. Khizer Khaderi is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University. Khaderi is the Founding Director of the Stanford Human Perception Laboratory (HPL) and the Stanford Vision Performance Center (VPC). He also serves as faculty at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI and the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance (HPA)
Khaderi is a renowned Neuro-Ophthalmic surgeon, technologist and futurist. Dr. Khaderi is pioneering the field of Symbiotics, defined as the convergence of human science + computer science. Khaderi developed the discipline of Symbiotics following initial interest from CS students interested in his research at the Stanford Human Perception Lab. Symbiotics involves a deep understanding in the principles of human systems and applying these principles computationally, to design and develop the next generation of human-centric technologies, where machines perceive, understand and respond to optimize the human experience. Dr. Khaderi envisions the application of Symbiotic principles as the key to unlocking ambient intelligence.
Khaderi has extensive domain expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), spatial computing (virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MxR)), wearables, gaming, IoT, Web3, applied neuroscience, human factors, and human-machine interfaces/interaction. His research interests include developing personalized human intelligent systems based on the human brain and sensory systems, developing technologies to optimize human performance, and combining biological and computational principles to expand our capabilities in research, clinical practice, and everyday life. Dr. Khaderi's approach to advance research interests and develop practical applications for everyday use is building technology, companies and collaborative partnerships across academia and industry.
Dr. Khaderi’s experience across industry sectors include consumer electronics, gaming, retail, life science, sports/Esports health care, Pharma, e-commerce, to name a few. He has developed novel technologies in these areas, and generated multiple invention patents. Selected as a “40 under 40”, he contributed to President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology regarding vision technology and the aging population. He also advises multiple companies, venture firms and organizations including Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Riot Games, Intel, Activision, Unity, Epic Games, NBA, Glaukos, the Global Esports Federation, the World Health Organization, the International Olympic Committee, the International Telecommunication Union, and the World Bank. -
Ali Raza Khaki, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Oncology
BioDr. Khaki is a medical oncologist and clinical assistant professor at Stanford University School of Medicine.
In his clinical practice, he treats patients with all forms of genitourinary cancer, including kidney, bladder, prostate, and testicular. He also regularly attends on the inpatient oncology service at Stanford Hospital.
With each patient, he is devoted to providing exceptional, humanistic care and has been recognized throughout his career for his humanism. As a medical student, he was named to the national Gold Humanism Honor Society and he received the Reza Gandjei Humanism Award as a medical resident at UCSF.
His research interests include novel therapies for genitourinary cancers, with a focus on urothelial cancer outcomes. He is the site principal investigator for multiple clinical trails investigating new therapies for genitourinary cancers.
Dr. Khaki is also active working clinically in inpatient oncology and is a Unit Based Medical Director for G1, an oncology hospital unit and is the Director of Inpatient Oncology. In this role, he oversees the inpatient oncology teams, works closely with the cancer center to develop new transitions of care pathways from inpatient to outpatient and has co-led an inpatient oncology research group to study quality improvement, care delivery and end-of-life care for patients with cancer.
Dr. Khaki has earned honors and recognition from the American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, Conquer Cancer Foundation, and other organizations.
He has authored numerous articles on topics such as immunotherapy for urothelial cancer, management of cancer patients with COVID-19, and utilization of end-of-life care by cancer patients. In addition, he is an editor for HemOnc.org and theMednet, a physician-only online community where members share clinical questions and answers. -
Aysha Hidayatullah

Visiting Scholar, Islamic StudiesBioAysha Hidayatullah is Associate Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Francisco. Hidayatullah is the author of *Feminist Edges of the Qur'an* (Oxford University Press, 2014), a study of feminist exegesis of the Qur'an. Her forthcoming book, *This Body Called Muslim*, is a study of Islamic ritual practices in relation to the body. Her other publications and research interests span constructions of gender and sexuality in Islamic traditions; literary representations and self-representations of Muslims in relation to gender; constructive Muslim theology; and methodologies and epistemologies in the study of Islam. She was the founding co-chair of the Islam, Gender, Women program unit of the American Academy of Religion.
