Luise Avelina Seeker
Senior Basic Life Research Scientist, Bioengineering
BioLuise Seeker is a trained vet from Berlin, Germany with a strong interest in researching ageing at a cellular level. She obtained a PhD in Genomics from the University of Edinburgh in 2018 for studying telomeres, their heritability and their power to predict lifespan (supervised by Profs. Georgios Banos, Dan Nussey, Mike Coffey and Bruce Whitelaw). She joined Prof. Anna Williams' lab at the University of Edinburgh as a postdoc and investigated transcriptional changes with ageing in the human central nervous system.

Serdar Selamet
Adjunct Lecturer, Civil and Environmental Engineering
BioProf. Serdar Selamet is an Adjunct Lecturer in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University and a Manager in Thermal Sciences at Exponent. Before joining Stanford, he served as an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. His work focuses on structural fire engineering, wildfire engineering, steel structures, performance-based design, computational modeling, and multi-hazard resilience.
Dr. Selamet specializes in evaluating the behavior of buildings and infrastructure under fire conditions. His expertise includes heat-transfer and thermomechanical analysis, structural stability and critical-temperature assessment, passive fire protection, façade and cladding fires, compartment-fire dynamics, and the fire performance of steel and composite structures. He has led performance-based fire-engineering projects involving high-rise buildings, airports, industrial facilities, and structures containing hazardous materials.
As a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) and Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), Dr. Selamet conducts origin-and-cause investigations involving residential and commercial fires, explosions, and hazardous materials. His consulting experience also includes failure analysis of sprinklers, fire-rated assemblies, firestopping systems, and building façades. In wildfire engineering, he develops predictive models for vegetation ignition and assesses risks to infrastructure in the wildland–urban interface.
His computational expertise includes finite-element and thermomechanical modeling using Abaqus, OpenSees Fire, and SAFIR, as well as fire and smoke modeling using computational fluid dynamics and zone models such as OZone and CFAST. Dr. Selamet is an Editorial Board Member of Fire Safety Journal, co-leads the SFPE WUI Fire Research Work Group, and serves on several professional fire-protection and structural-engineering committees. -
Debbie Senesky
Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, of Electrical Engineering, Senior Fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy and Associate Professor, by courtesy, of Photon Science
BioDebbie G. Senesky is an Associate Professor at Stanford University in the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department and the Electrical Engineering Department. In addition, she is the Principal Investigator of the EXtreme Environment Microsystems Laboratory (XLab). Her research interests include the development of nanomaterials for extreme harsh environments, high-temperature electronics for Venus exploration, and microgravity synthesis of nanomaterials. In the past, she has held positions at GE Sensing (formerly known as NovaSensor), GE Global Research Center, and Hewlett Packard. She received the B.S. degree (2001) in mechanical engineering from the University of Southern California. She received the M.S. degree (2004) and Ph.D. degree (2007) in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Prof. Senesky is the Site Director of nano@stanford. She is currently the co-editor of two technical journals: IEEE Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems and Sensors. In recognition of her research, she received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2025, Emerging Leader Abie Award from AnitaB.org in 2018, Early Faculty Career Award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 2012, Gabilan Faculty Fellowship Award in 2012, and Sloan Ph.D. Fellowship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in 2004.
Prof. Senesky's career path and research has been featured by Scientific American, Seeker, People Behind the Science podcast, The Future of Everything radio show, Space.com, and NPR's Tell Me More program.
