Omar I Ceesay

BioOmar was born in Banjulinding, The Gambia and moved to the United States to play soccer at Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC). He then transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He worked as an Emergency Department (ED) and Neuro-rehab nurse for three years, and subsequently enrolled into the UNMC College of Medicine. He is part of the 2027 graduation class.
Omar's interest in neurosurgery predates medical school. He is particularly interested in Global Neurosurgery and Neurotrauma. He has an ongoing research on ways to optimize neurosurgical care in underserved areas of the world. His time at Stanford will be spent on tumor and functional EEG research, under the tutelage of Dr. Melanie Hayden-Gephart and Dr. Ashwin Ramayya, respectively. In his free time, Omar enjoys playing soccer and board games. -
Natally Celaya-Martinez

BioMy name is Natally Celaya-Martinez, and I am from the Skagit Valley area in Washington State. I graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle with a B.S. in Biology (Physiology), where I learned a lot about navigating new spaces and learning a lot of wholesome lessons along the way ~
My interest in healthcare was shaped by watching my family navigate care through language barriers and moments of misunderstanding, revealing how easily patients can be left unheard. But growing up in a small community, I came to see how crucial it is to reduce healthcare disparities, which strengthened my commitment to serve underrepresented populations.
I am honored to be part of the Stanford Healthcare team and look forward to learning from peers and physicians who are committed to patient centered care. I hope to carry these experiences forward in my journey to medicine and give back to future generations! -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focuses on advanced echocardiographic imaging of the right heart and pulmonary circulation, with a strong emphasis on integrating artificial intelligence and deep learning into clinical cardiology. I led cardiovascular phenotyping for NIH-funded immune aging cohort and am developing a research program in women's cardiovascular health, including sex-specific imaging phenotypes and the cardiovascular consequences of adverse pregnancy outcomes across the menopausal transition.
