Iram Ahmad, MD, MME

BioDr. Iram Ahmad received her MD from the University of Michigan Medical School. She then completed Otolaryngology residency program at the University of Iowa. At Iowa, she was an NIH- sponsored T32 research resident in the Department of Otolaryngology. During her residency training she also gained expertise in education and graduated with a Master in Medical Education from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. After residency, Dr. Ahmad continued at Iowa for her fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology.
Dr. Ahmad is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery in the Pediatric Division. Her clinical expertise is in Pediatric Otology and hearing loss. She is focused on children with hearing loss, cochlear implantation, cholesteatoma, and general pediatric Otolaryngology. Her research interests are in children with congenital hearing loss and microstructure changes of the brain. -
Neida Basheer Ahmad

BioNeida Basheer Ahmad, Ph.D., is a Social Science Researcher in the Walkout! Lab for Youth Justice, focusing on a project that aims to understand the education paths that lead to and through incarceration for youth to shed light on the impact of multiple oppressions and intersectional challenges on their lives. She earned her Ph.D. from the Race, Inequality, and Language in Education program in the Stanford Graduate School of Education in 2024. Her research interests include intersectionality, critical policy analysis, language policy, bilingual education, raciolinguistic ideologies, ethnic studies, and culturally sustaining pedagogies. Her research explores the co-naturalization of language and race in language policy making and implementation. She is also concerned about asymmetrical power relationships in research and seeks to create reciprocal relationships with her research participants.

Aijaz Ahmed, MD
Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology and Hepatology)
BioDr. Ahmed is an internationally recognized hepatologist with expertise in the treatment of acute and chronic liver diseases. He is a board-certified specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology, transplant hepatology, and obesity medicine. Currently, he serves as the Medical Director of the Adult Liver Transplant Program at Stanford University.
Dr. Ahmed graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Brown University, Providence, RI and fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Stanford University. During his fellowship, he focused on clinical and research training in General and Transplant Hepatology.
For patients under his care, Dr. Ahmed remains dedicated to creating a personalized, comprehensive, and above-all a compassionate treatment plan. He outlines the diagnostic and follow-up management pathway in an individualized fashion; he updates his patients and their family/support at each step of the decision-making process; and he focuses on prioritizing the wishes of his patients and their family/support for an optimal outcome and quality of life.
Dr. Ahmed remains clinically active and has been instrumental in establishing a wide network of hepatology outreach clinics in remote and underserved regions of California and Nevada.
In addition to his patient care responsibilities, Dr. Ahmed remains committed to the educational mission of Stanford ford University. He remains deeply interested in mentoring trainees and students al levels from undergraduates to trainee physicians and junior colleagues. Dr. Ahmed has received several teaching awards during his career.
Dr. Ahmed’s research interests include 1) multidisciplinary approach to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), 2) disparities in the management of chronic liver disease, 3) improving screening and management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and 4) outcomes research in NAFLD, HCC, viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, and liver transplantation. He heads a busy and productive outcomes research team. In addition, he collaborates with basic scientists and is participating in several translational research projects at Stanford University.
He has published his findings in textbooks, abstracts, case reports, and high- profile medical journals including Gastroenterology, Journal of Hepatology, Hepatology American Journal of Gastroenterology, and other well-renowned peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Ahmed and his team has made presentations to his peers at many national and international conferences: the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, International Liver Congress, European Association for the Study of the Liver, Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver, and more. His presentations have addressed leading-edge approaches to the treatment of chronic liver disease, liver cancer, and liver failure. He also has presented his insights into the gastrointestinal impact of COVID-19.
For his clinical, research, and teaching achievements, Dr. Ahmed has earned extensive recognition. His honors include being named as one of America’s Top Physicians by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.
He is an active member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. -
Salaar Ahmed
Postdoctoral Scholar, Neurosurgery
BioSalaar Ahmed, MD, is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Ramayya Lab within the Department of Neurological Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. His research focuses on the mechanisms and novel treatments of chronic and cancer-related pain, neuromodulation, disorders of consciousness, and global neurosurgery.
Dr. Ahmed earned his MD from Aga Khan University in January 2026, graduating summa cum laude, with a record 18 university awards and 15 honors. His early research focused on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), pediatric neuro-oncology, and global neurosurgical outcomes under the mentorship of Dr. Ather Enam and Dr. Naureen Mushtaq. He also collaborated on research projects with investigators from the University of Minnesota, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and Mayo Clinic Rochester.
Beyond his academic work, Dr. Ahmed served as President of the student wing of Child Protection Services (CPS) at Aga Khan University Hospital. As a high school student, he founded Masoom Jaan, a community initiative that positively impacted the lives of more than 1,000 children in Rahim Yar Khan, his hometown in Pakistan. He later co-founded the Student Neurosurgery and Oncology Research Consortium (SNORC), an international mentorship and research initiative that has connected medical students with neurosurgical faculty mentors and expanded access to research opportunities across multiple countries. In addition, Salaar has worked extensively on HIV stigma and public health research, focusing on the MSM and transgender communities, and continues to collaborate with investigators at Aga Khan University.
Dr. Ahmed has presented his work at numerous international scientific meetings, including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO), and the International AIDS Conference. -
Tazbir Ahmed
Postdoctoral Scholar, Ophthalmology
BioDr. Tazbir Ahmed is a clinician-scientist with a focus on neuro-ophthalmology and vision science, bringing expertise in translational research, clinical trials, and medical education. He obtained his medical degree and licensure through the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and achieved board certification in Ophthalmology from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Motivated by a deep interest in ocular neurodegeneration, inflammation, and metabolic eye disorders, Dr. Ahmed pursued a PhD in Ophthalmology at the University of Tokyo School of Medicine. His doctoral research explored the use of biologics, ocular devices, and experimental models of inflammation to investigate retinal and optic nerve changes in glaucoma, optic neuropathies, and age-related visual decline.
Dr. Ahmed’s multidisciplinary research integrates preclinical disease models, neuroimaging, ocular histochemistry, omics technologies, and electrophysiological methods to elucidate mechanisms of visual pathway dysfunction. He also leverages data science tools to address key issues in ocular public health. -
Zeeshan Ahmed
Associate Professor of Particle Physics and Astrophysics
BioI am an observational cosmologist, and an experimental physicist. I build ultra-low-noise detectors using superconducting and quantum sensing techniques, and use them in experiments and instrumentation for cosmology. I currently spend most of my time investigating the inflation paradigm of standard cosmology, using the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Recently, I've become interested in using the weak lensing of the CMB in conjunction with galaxy surveys to study the growth of large-scale structure in the universe.
I received my PhD in particle astrophysics from Caltech in 2012, working on direct detection of WIMP dark matter with the CDMS-II experiment. I then shifted my effort to searching for inflation with the CMB. I was a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford through 2015 before being appointed as a Wolfgang Panofsky Fellow at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. In 2017, I won a DOE Office of Science Early Career Award to work on new signal transduction and superconducting multiplexing techniques for next-generation CMB cameras. In 2020, I was appointed as a Lead Scientist at SLAC, and in 2023, I was appointed Associate Professor of Particle Physics and Astrophysics at Stanford and SLAC. I serve as CMB department head in the Fundamental Physics Directorate at SLAC. I also serve as scientific project manager for the bring up of SLAC's Detector Microfabrication Facility for the development of superconducting and quantum sensors and devices. -

Hongmin Ahn

BioHongmin Ahn is an incoming Ph.D. student in Religious Studies at Stanford University. He holds a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) from Harvard Divinity School, MA, USA, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Religion from Bard College, NY, USA. As an interdisciplinary scholar, Hongmin focuses on modern transnational religions in Korea and Japan, with a particular focus on Zainichi—the Korean diaspora in post-colonial Japan. His research explores the transnational networks of Zainichi religions that connect Korea, Japan, and the global Korean diaspora. Before coming to Stanford, he was an IAFOR Global Fellow at the Osaka School of International Public Policy, the University of Osaka.

Changzhi Ai
Postdoctoral Scholar, Photon Science, SLAC
BioChangzhi Ai is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the SUNCAT Center for Interface Science and Catalysis at Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. He specializes in developing machine learning models for surface and interfacial chemistry, with broader expertise in atomistic modeling for materials science and chemistry. His research also explores agentic AI for scientific discovery, automation of active learning workflows, global optimization algorithms, and high-throughput materials screening. He obtained his PhD from the Technical University of Denmark.
His current research focuses on the development of scalable, physically informed machine learning potentials, particularly equivariant neural network architectures, for accurately modeling complex chemical environments. His work spans heterogeneous catalysis, multi-metallic alloy design, reaction kinetics, and surface and interfacial chemistry, with an emphasis on uncovering structure–property relationships at the atomic scale.
In addition, he has extensive experience integrating machine learning models into simulation pipelines and deploying them in large-scale computational environments. His technical expertise includes deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, distributed training (DDP and multi-node GPU systems), and scientific computing tools including LAMMPS, ASE, and TorchScript/LibTorch for production-level deployment. He also develops end-to-end automated workflows for data generation, model training, and adaptive sampling in materials discovery.

BioAlex Aiken is the Alcatel-Lucent Professor of Computer Science at Stanford. Alex received his Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Music from Bowling Green State University in 1983 and his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1988. Alex was a Research Staff Member at the IBM Almaden Research Center (1988-1993) and a Professor in the EECS department at UC Berkeley (1993-2003) before joining the Stanford faculty in 2003. Naga Achyuth Reddy Ailury

BioNaga Achyuth Reddy is a CIRM Bridges Research Scholar in the Hagey Laboratory at Stanford University School of Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Michael T. Longaker. His journey to the United States marked the beginning of a new chapter, driven by a commitment to advancing his education and pursuing a career in biotechnology and regenerative medicine. Motivated by a strong interest in scientific research, he sought opportunities to develop the technical and analytical skills necessary to contribute to translational biomedical research.
To further these goals, Achyuth Reddy was selected for the highly competitive CIRM Bridges Stem Cell Technology and Laboratory Management (SCTLM) program at California State University Channel Islands. As a CIRM Bridges trainee, he participated in scientific conferences, outreach initiatives, and educational programs that broadened his understanding of stem cell biology and its impact on society. These experiences strengthened his appreciation for public engagement and the importance of advancing awareness of the transformative potential of stem cell research.
At Stanford, Achyuth Reddy conducts research focused on regenerative medicine, biomaterials, wound healing, and fibrosis. His work has provided extensive hands-on experience in stem cell and primary cell culture, murine animal models, biomaterials research, histology, Immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, protocol development, and translational research. He is passionate about bridging fundamental biological discoveries with clinical applications and enjoys working in a collaborative environment where scientific discoveries have the potential to improve patient care. Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur goal is to develop and clinically implement new technologies for high-precision and noninvasive intervention upon the nervous system. Every few millimeters of the brain is functionally distinct, and different parts of the brain may have counteracting responses to therapy. To better match our therapies to neuroscience, we develop techniques that allow intervention upon only the right part of the nervous system at the right time, using technologies like focused ultrasound and nanotechnology.

Newsha Ajami

BioDr. Ajami is a hydrologist and environmental policy expert and the Founding Director of the Program on Governance for Risk, Resilience, and Recovery (GR3) at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. Trained as a civil and environmental engineer and having served in various policy roles, her work bridges science, policy, finance, and governance to advance resilient water systems. She pioneered the use of data science to study the human and policy dimensions of resilient urban water and hydrologic systems.
Previously, she served as Chief Strategic Development Officer for Research in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Area at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 2022 to 2026, where she led initiatives at the nexus of water, energy, and climate. Ajami also recently co-led the development of the Aspen National Water Strategy for the Aspen Institute, a national roadmap developed with cross-sector leaders to strengthen U.S. water security, modernize infrastructure, and align water management with economic growth and climate resilience.
Earlier in her career, she founded and directed the Urban Water Program at Stanford University. Dr. Ajami has also held several public service roles, including mayoral appointee to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (2021–2024) and gubernatorial appointee to the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board (2013–2021). She served on the Board on Water Science and Technology at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and is currently a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.
She is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and recipient of the prestigious AGU Ambassador Award, recognized for her leadership in bridging science, policy, and society, advancing science communication, and mentoring the next generation of interdisciplinary thinkers. Dr. Ajami received her Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the UC, Irvine, an M.S. in Hydrology and Water Resources from the University of Arizona, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Amir Kabir University of Technology in Tehran. -
Karen Ajluni

BioKaren Ajluni is the Director of Finance and Operations in the Departments of Philosophy and Religious Studies within the School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) at Stanford University. Previously, Karen worked for six years as the Finance Manager in the Physics Department, also within H&S. Before coming to Stanford, Karen worked for four years at Santa Clara University, most recently as Assistant Dean of Administration and Finance in the School of Education and Counseling Psychology. Prior to that she was the Operations and Administration Manager of the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship. Karen has been employed in non-profit and educational administration for over 25 years, and has experience with a wide variety of organizations, including Downtown College Prep High School, the Girl Scouts of Northern California, EHC Lifebuilders, Futures without Violence, and Project Match. She received a B.S. in Psychology from Santa Clara University and a Masters in Public Administration from San Jose State University. Karen lives in downtown San Jose with her husband and three children.
