Markus Covert
Shriram Chair of the Department of Bioengineering, Professor of Bioengineering and, by courtesy, of Chemical and Systems Biology
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur focus is on building computational models of complex biological processes, and using them to guide an experimental program. Such an approach leads to a relatively rapid identification and validation of previously unknown components and interactions. Biological systems of interest include metabolic, regulatory and signaling networks as well as cell-cell interactions. Current research involves the dynamic behavior of NF-kappaB, an important family of transcription factors.

Jasmine Michelle Cox
Ph.D. Student in Electrical Engineering, admitted Autumn 2020
BioJasmine Cox is a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering. She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics from Boise State University in 2020. During her undergraduate academic career, Jasmine was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and a member of the Advanced Nanomaterials and Manufacturing Laboratory focusing on additive manufacturing of flexible hybrid electronics. Her current research as a member of Prof. Debbie G. Senesky’s group, EXtreme Environment Microsystems Lab (XLab), explores the synthesis, fabrication, and characterization of devices and materials in extreme environments that can be found in space.

Craig Criddle
Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Emeritus
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsCriddle's interests include microbial biotechnology for the circular economy, including recovery of clean water from used water, renewable energy, valuable materials that can replace fossil-carbon derived materials. Current projects include energy-efficient anaerobic wastewater treatment technology, assessment of new treatment trains that yield high quality water; fossil carbon plastics biodegradation, and biotechnology for production of bioplastics that can replace fossil carbon plastics.

Colton Crosby
Ph.D. Student in Aeronautics and Astronautics, admitted Summer 2024
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am a Ph.D. candidate in Aeronautics and Astronautics studying how learned robot policies can be made reliable once they leave the lab. Rather than retraining a policy to make it safer, I am interested in methods that monitor a policy as it runs, predict when it is heading toward failure, and recover before that failure occurs. My current interests include safety for locomanipulation, multi-robot collaboration, and fault recovery for learned policies.
