Anand Ganapathy

BioI am a 2nd Year Innovation Fellow within the Human Performance Alliance in the 2022-23 class at the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign. I just completed the Biodesign Innovation Fellowship at the Byers Center for Biodesign. I am also in my fifth year of residency in the Integrated Vascular Surgery program at the Keck Medical Center of USC in Los Angeles, California. My educational interests are in vascular surgery, medical device innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Previously, I was a Research Fellow at Microsoft Research India and prior to that obtained my Masters (by Research) in Computer and Data Systems from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). -

Grace Gao

BioGrace Gao is an assistant professor in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University. She leads the Navigation and Autonomous Vehicles Laboratory (NAV Lab). Before joining Stanford University, she was faculty at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She obtained her Ph.D. degree at Stanford University. Her research is on robust and secure perception, localization and navigation with applications to manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous driving cars, as well as space robotics.
Prof. Gao has won a number of awards, including the NSF CAREER Award, the Institute of Navigation Early Achievement Award and the RTCA William E. Jackson Award. She received the Inspiring Early Academic Career Award by Stanford University, and Distinguished Promotion Award from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has won Best Paper/Presentation of the Session Awards 22 times at Institute of Navigation conferences. She received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Research from the College of Engineering, University of Illinois. For her teaching and advising, Prof. Gao has been on the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students at University of Illinois multiple times. She won the College of Engineering Everitt Award for Teaching Excellence, the Engineering Council Award for Excellence in Advising, and AIAA Illinois Chapter’s Teacher of the Year. Prof. Gao also received AIAA Stanford Chapter Advisor of the Year Award in 2022. -
Xiaojing Gao

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsHow do we design biological systems as “smart medicine” that sense patients’ states, process the information, and respond accordingly? To realize this vision, we will tackle fundamental challenges across different levels of complexity, such as (1) protein components that minimize their crosstalk with human cells and immunogenicity, (2) biomolecular circuits that function robustly in different cells and are easy to deliver, (3) multicellular consortia that communicate through scalable channels, and (4) therapeutic modules that interface with physiological inputs/outputs. Our engineering targets include biomolecules, molecular circuits, viruses, and cells, and our approach combines quantitative experimental analysis with computational simulation. The molecular tools we build will be applied to diverse fields such as neurobiology and cancer therapy.

Josué García Ávila

BioJosué García-Ávila, a highly accomplished individual from Guerrero, Mexico, boasts a strong educational background, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Universidad Anáhuac and a Master’s degree in Manufacturing Systems from Tecnológico de Monterrey. As a graduate student in the Advanced Manufacturing Research Group, Josué excelled and was recognized with an academic scholarship from the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACyT).
Josué's expertise in the field of engineering is further highlighted by his successful career in the automotive industry, where he worked as a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer (Machining & Assembly) at Bocar Group for several years. In addition to his professional achievements, Josué also demonstrated his commitment to making a positive impact, having lived in Costa Rica for two years where he dedicated himself to humanitarian work.
His passion for innovation and technology shines through in his current research interests, which include exploring the data-driven mechanics of architected, multifunctional, sustainable, soft, and stretchable materials to create mimetic artificial living matter for biomedical applications and beyond. His impressive research accomplishments are evidenced by his first-author publications.
Josué's dedication to his field and drive for success has not gone unnoticed. He has been awarded the EDGE Doctoral Fellowship, by nomination of the graduate admissions committee and most recently awarded the prestigious Claudio X. Gonzalez Graduate Fellowship to pursue PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the prestigious Stanford School of Engineering.
