Mark Horowitz
Fortinet Founders Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering , Yahoo! Founders Professor in the School of Engineering and Professor of Computer Science
BioProfessor Horowitz initially focused on designing high-performance digital systems by combining work in computer-aided design tools, circuit design, and system architecture. During this time, he built a number of early RISC microprocessors, and contributed to the design of early distributed shared memory multiprocessors. In 1990, Dr. Horowitz took leave from Stanford to help start Rambus Inc., a company designing high-bandwidth memory interface technology. After returning in 1991, his research group pioneered many innovations in high-speed link design, and many of today’s high speed link designs are designed by his former students or colleagues from Rambus.
In the 2000s he started a long collaboration with Prof. Levoy on computational photography, which included work that led to the Lytro camera, whose photographs could be refocused after they were captured.. Dr. Horowitz's current research interests are quite broad and span using EE and CS analysis methods to problems in neuro and molecular biology to creating new agile design methodologies for analog and digital VLSI circuits. He remains interested in learning new things, and building interdisciplinary teams. -

BioI am a Post Doctoral researcher working with Prof. Shuran Song at Stanford Electric Engineering. Prior to joining Stanford, I spent three years as an Applied Scientist at Amazon Robotics working on the Stow project. I obtained my PhD and MS degrees from the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, obtained BoE from the department of Automation at Tsinghua University. I had also spent time interning at Toyota Research Institute and MIT.
I work on robotic manipulation. I am currently interested in the intersection of data-driven visual motor policies and model based compliance control. -

Umran Inan
Professor of Electrical Engineering, Emeritus
BioThrough measurements in space and at multiple remote sites in Antarctica, Alaska, and the continental United States, Professor Inan studies the Earth's ionosphere and upper atmosphere. Of particular interest are ionospheric effects of lightning discharges and the recently discovered phenomena of electrical discharges and luminous glows at high altitudes above thunderstorms. He also studies physical processes in the Earth's near-space environment, including space weather effects on navigation and communication signals, electrodynamic coupling of the ionosphere to the magnetosphere, wave-induced precipitation of particles out of the radiation belts, and cyclotron resonant interactions between electromagnetic waves and energetic electrons. He is also involved in the development of ultra-low-power and miniaturized radio receivers for use in remote polar regions and on micro-satellites.

Waguih S Ishak

BioWaguih is a Division VP & Chief Technologist at Corning R&D Corporation. He received his B.Sc. Honor in EE from Cairo University in 1971, his B.Sc. in Math Honor from Ein Shams University in 1973, his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in EE from McMaster University in 1975, 1978 respectively. Waguih received the Stanford Executive Program in 1999 and the D.Sc. honoris Causa from McMaster University in 2018.
Waguih joined HP Labs in 1978 and became the Director of the Photonics & Electronics Research Lab in 1995. In 1999, he joined Agilent Labs as the VP of Communications and Optics Research and Avago Technologies at VP and CTO in 2005. In 2007, Waguih joined Corning Incorporated and established the Corning West Technology Center in Palo Alto staffed with scientists and engineers conducting research on displays, interconnects and sensors. His current activities at Corning R&D Corporation includes Photonics, Optoelectronics, High Speed Electronics, MEMS in addition to identifying new areas of growth (M&A, Talent Acquisition) and investigating computational techniques for material discovery.
Waguih is a Life Fellow of IEEE and received the Exemplary Service Award from UCSB in 2015. He is a member of the VCAT Committee of NIST. Waguih was inducted a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2020 and was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering in 2022. -

Joseph Kahn

BioJoseph M. Kahn is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. His research addresses communication and imaging through optical fibers, including modulation, detection, signal processing and spatial multiplexing. He received A.B. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from U.C. Berkeley in 1981 and 1986. From 1987-1990, he was at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Crawford Hill Laboratory, in Holmdel, NJ. He was on the Electrical Engineering faculty at U.C. Berkeley from 1990-2003. In 2000, he co-founded StrataLight Communications, which was acquired by Opnext, Inc. in 2009. He received the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1991 and is a Fellow of the IEEE.

Thomas Kailath

BioThomas Kailath obtained a B.E.(Telecom) degree from the College of Engineering in Pune, India, in !956 and M.S. (1959) and Sc.D. (1961) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
After a year at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories, he joined Stanford University in 1963 as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, was promoted to Professor in 1968, and named to the Hitachi America Chair in 1988. He assumed Emeritus status in June 2001. His research has spanned a large number of engineering and mathematical disciplines, and he has mentored over a hundred doctoral and postdoctoral students. Their joint efforts have led to over 300 journal papers, several of which have received outstanding paper prizes; they have also led to a dozen patents and to several books and monographs. He has also co-founded and served as a director of several private and public high-technology companies. and has been
He is a fellow of the IEEE and a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, the US National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Sciences of the Developing World and the Royal Spanish Academy of Engineering. In 2006, he was inducted into the Silicon Valley Engineering Hall of Fame.
Other major honors include several IEEE medals and prizes, including the 2007 Medal of Honor in 2007, Guggenheim and Churchill Fellowships, and honorary degrees from universities in Sweden, Scotland, Spain and France. -
Theodore Kamins

Researcher, Hansen Experimental Physics Laboratory (HEPL)BioTed received his degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He then joined the Research and Development Laboratory of Fairchild Semiconductor, where he worked with epitaxial and polycrystalline silicon before moving to Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, where he worked on numerous semiconductor material and device topics. Before moving to Stanford, he was a Principal Scientist at Hewlett-Packard in the Information and Quantum Systems Laboratory, where he conducted research on advanced nanostructured electronic and sensing materials and devices.
Ted is co-author with R. S. Muller of the textbook "Device Electronics for Integrated Circuits" and is author of the book "Polycrystalline Silicon for Integrated Circuits and Displays." He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society. He has taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and at Stanford University and has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices. -

Zerina Kapetanovic

BioZerina Kapetanovic is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University working in the area of low-power wireless communication, sensing, and Internet of Things (IoT) systems. Prior to starting at Stanford, Kapetanovic was a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research in the Networking Research Group and Research for Industry Group.
Kapetanovic's research has been recognized by the Yang Research Award, the Distinguished Dissertation Award from the University of Washington. She also received the Microsoft Research Distinguished Dissertation Grant and was selected to attend the 2020 UC Berkeley Rising Stars in EECS Workshop. Kapetanovic completed her PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington in 2022. -
