Mark A. Cappelli
Professor of Mechanical Engineering
BioProfessor Cappelli received his B.Sc. degree in Physics (McGill, 1980), and M.A.Sc and Ph.D. degrees in Aerospace Sciences (Toronto, 1983, 1987). He joined Stanford University in 1987 and is currently a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Co-Director of the Engineering Physics Program. He carries out research in applied plasma physics with applications to a broad range of fields, including space propulsion, aerodynamics, medicine, materials synthesis, and fusion.

Matteo Cargnello

BioMatteo Cargnello received his Ph.D. in Nanotechnology in 2012 at the University of Trieste, Italy, under the supervision of Prof. Paolo Fornasiero, and he was then a post-doctoral scholar in the Chemistry Department at the University of Pennsylvania with Prof. Christopher B. Murray before joining the Faculty at Stanford University in January 2015. He is currently Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and, by courtesy, of Materials Science and Engineering and Silas Palmer Faculty Scholar. Dr. Cargnello is the recipient of several awards including the Sloan Fellowship in 2018, the Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award for Creative Work in 2020, and the Early Career Award in Catalysis from the ACS Catalysis Division in 2022. The general goals of the research in the Cargnello group pertain to solving energy and environmental challenges. The group focuses on capture and conversion of carbon dioxide, emission control and reduction of methane and hydrocarbon emissions in the atmosphere, sustainable chemical practices through electro- and photocatalysis, sustainable production of hydrogen, and chemical recycling of plastics.

Gunnar Carlsson

BioDr. Carlsson has been a professor of mathematics at Stanford University since 1991. In the last ten years, he has been involved in adapting topological techniques to data analysis, under NSF funding and as the lead PI on the DARPA “Topological Data Analysis” project from 2005 to 2010. He is the lead organizer of the ATMCS conferences, and serves as an editor of several Mathematics journals

BioCarissa Carter is the Academic Director at the Stanford d.school. In this role she guides the development of the d.school’s pedagogy, leads its instructors, and shapes its class offerings. She teaches courses on the intersection of data and design, design for climate change, design for emerging tech, and maps and the visual sorting of information.

Dennis R Carter

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsProfessor Carter studies the influence of mechanical loading upon the growth, development, regeneration, and aging of skeletal tissues. Basic information from such studies is used to understand skeletal diseases and treatments. He has served as President of the Orthopaedic Research Society and is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

Carter Casady
Research Engineer
BioDr. Carter B. Casady is a Research Engineer in the Center for Sustainable Development and Global Competitiveness at Stanford University and a non-resident Senior Fellow in the Center for Transportation Public-Private Partnership Policy at George Mason University. As part of the Stanford Long Term Investing (SLTI) initiative, his research broadly focuses on the governance of long-term investments in infrastructure, particularly via public-private partnerships (PPPs). Prior to re-joining Stanford, Dr. Casady served as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Economics and Finance in the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at University College London (UCL) where he also directed the Infrastructure Investment and Finance MSc program. He earned his BSc in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University as well as his MSc and PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University.

BioDavid is a double major in industrial engineering and finance, specializing in causal inference and machine learning. During his experience of over 7 years, David has led teams within multilateral organizations, startups, and government institutions in the United States and LATAM. In his capacity, David integrates machine learning, econometrics, and political economy to craft solutions for intricate challenges affecting millions of people.
David is pursuing a master's degree in computational social science on a full scholarship at Stanford's School of Management Science and Engineering, where he is supervised by Dr. Vasilis Syrgkanis. Additionally, David obtained a master's degree in econometrics/public policy from the University of California, San Diego.
