. Murtaza Safdari
Ph.D. Student in Physics, admitted Autumn 2016
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsIncorporating novel techniques from ML and AI, we're aiming to improve the performance of ATLAS, one of the four Particle Physics detectors on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). There is scope for improvement in both offline analysis of data, as well as the online processing of data in real time as the data is being collected.
We're also studying exotic decay modes of the Higgs boson to better understand its properties as well as uncover new Physics hidden in the myriad of final states. -

Ph.D. Student in Management Science and Engineering, admitted Autumn 2017
Masters Student in Statistics, admitted Winter 2020BioI am a PhD student in the Department of Management Science and Engineering (MS&E) at Stanford University, where I am fortunate to be advised by Prof. Jose Blanchet. I am a member of the Stanford Operations Research Group.
Previously, I obtained a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Mathematics both from Peking University in 2017. My research interests lie broadly in applied probability, stochastic modeling and robust optimization.
In my spare time, I like outdoor activities, including hiking, marathons and triathlons. Besides these, I am a serious contract bridge player.
