    BioAssoc Prof Daniel Ting is a senior consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon working in the Singapore National Eye Center (SNEC), an Associate Professor with Duke-NUS Medical School and an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor and an Innovation Mentor at Stanford University. He is also the Director of Singapore Health Service (SingHealth) AI Office, SNEC Chief Data and Digital Officer, and the Head of AI and Digital Innovation in Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI). In 2017, Dr Ting was US-ASEAN Fulbright Scholar visiting the Johns Hopkins University Fulbright Scholar to share his expertise in AI and big data in medicine. In addition to that, his research focus span across not only on the technical aspect on machine learning, deep learning, large language models, explainable AI, privacy preserving technologies, but also safe, responsible and ethical clinical AI applications. He is also involved in several international consensus reporting guidelines such as STARD-AI, QUADAS-AI and DECIDE-AI.

    To date, Daniel has published >250 publications on peer reviewed, book chapters, educational articles and conference abstracts. Of those, 45 were published in high impact journals (IF >10) such as JAMA, NEJM, Lancet, Nature Medicine, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Lancet Digital Health, Progress in Retinal and Eye Research, Diabetes Care, Nature Digital Medicine, Ophthalmology and etc. As of Aug 2024 (Google Scholar), his current H index: 61, i-10 index: 172 with total citations of >20,000. Dr Ting has received a total of 100M research grants, in which 20 M as a principal investigator, and 80M as co-investigators on AI and digital innovation related projects in health.

    Dr Ting serves in several leadership positions at the different AI and eye societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology AI and Retina Ophthalmology Technology Assessment committees, and he also chairs the AI and Digital Innovation Standing Committee for the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retinal Society. He also serves in numerous advisory and editorial boards in the top-tiered digital and medical journals, including Lancet Digital Health, Frontiers in Medicine, Frontiers in Digital Health and Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology; Section Editor in British Journal of Ophthalmology and Editorial Board Member in Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Retina, Ophthalmology Science, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology and Retina.

    For the accomplishment, Dr Ting was recognized by many top-tiered international AI and ophthalmology societies in winning many prestigious scientific awards, including Tatler Asia Gen T Award (2021), Singapore National Clinician Scientist Award (2021), Asia-Pacific Academy Ophthalmology (APAO) Nakajima Award (2021), Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retinal Society (APVRS) Ian Constable Award (2021), MICCAI OMIA Prestigious Achievement Award (2020), ARVO Bert Glaser Award for Innovative Research in Retina (2020), USA Macula Society Evangelos Gragoudas Award (2019), APAO Young Ophthalmologist’s Award (2018) and APTOS Young Innovator Award (2017).

    In 2022, 2023 and 2024, he is included in the World’s Top 100 Ophthalmology Power list by the Ophthalmologists; and the World’s Top 2% Scientists by the Stanford University world ranking. In 2021, 2022 and 2023, he was consistently ranked top 3 in the deep learning domain over the past decades (2010 – 2023) by the ExpertScape. In 2024, he won the Singapore National Academy of Medicine Young Scientist Award, and also ranked the Top 100 AI Thought Leaders Worldwide with Fei Fei Li, Yan LeCun, Jensen Huang and many others by H20.ai.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Tingey’s research broadly focuses on factors that promote positive outcomes in patients with complex and/or chronic conditions. She is committed to research that focuses on outcomes that are valued by patients and healthcare stakeholders.

    Some of her research interests include self-management interventions in chronic conditions (e.g., multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury) and adapting evidence-based treatments to provide equitable care to individuals with chronic conditions and disabilities. She is also passionate about integrating psychology services into critical care settings to improve health outcomes among ICU survivors.

  • Rebecca Lauren Tisdale

    Rebecca Lauren Tisdale

    Assistant Professor of Medicine (PCPH)

    BioBecca Tisdale, MD, MPA is an internist, obesity medicine specialist, and health services researcher with interests in cardiovascular disease, global health, and health systems. As a VA Health Services Research & Development fellow (2020-2023) and Investigator in the VA Center for Innovation to Implementation (Ci2i) and Stanford Cardiovascular Outcomes, Policy, & Implementation Research Group (COPIR), her work has focused on value, access, and equity in cardiovascular disease care and the role of virtual care in achieving these goals. She additionally serves as Medical Director of the Evaluation Sciences Unit (ESU) with the Division of Primary Care and Population Health.

    Previously, she received a BA with distinction in Human Biology from Stanford in 2009, followed by a master of public administration (MPA) joint degree from Sciences Po, Paris and the London School of Economics. She then matriculated at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons for medical school, where she was active in global health activities, researching multidisciplinary teams in HIV care in Ethiopia and serving on the board of the student international health organization. As a global health track resident at Stanford, Becca spent time working in Rwanda through the Johnson and Johnson program and participated in the inaugural Women Leaders in Global Health conferences at Stanford and in London. In 2019-2020, she comprised one third of Stanford’s first all-woman internal medicine chief resident cohort. Outside of work, she enjoys all things French as well as running, both in races and after her young children.

    BioDr. Christina (Christy) Tise is a physician scientist and Assistant Professor in the Division of Medical Genetics at Stanford with subspecialty training in Clinical Biochemical Genetics. Dr. Tise has developed multiple research projects focused on the clinical impact of biochemical genetic conditions in pregnancy and newborn health, including a project focused on unforeseen diagnoses in individuals initially identified through state newborn screening which has resulted in a number of publications.

    Dr. Tise also researches the genetic etiologies of recurrent pregnancy loss and the impact of inherited metabolic conditions on human reproduction. She is involved in several research initiatives including contributing to the development of TRIOS, a multi-site, NIH-funded research study to evaluate the genetic causes of recurrent pregnancy loss. In serving as the primary research mentor for a recent Masters of Genetic Counseling graduate, Dr. Tise’s research on carrier and newborn screening has highlighted areas of ancestry-related healthcare inequities specific to the field of Medical Genetics.

    Dr. Tise’s primary academic and advocacy interests are embodied in this work, specifically the overlap between biochemical and molecular analysis, and the clinical utility of innovative technologies for diagnosis and treatment of genetic disease. This is an unbelievably thrilling time for the field of Medical Genetics, as it promises immense progress and opportunity for all fields of medicine, and Dr. Tise is determined, honored, and incredibly excited to be a part of it!

    Sara L. (Sally) Tobin

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsTobin is a Senior Research Scholar at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics. She obtained her Ph.D. in Developmental Biology from the University of Washington and did postdoctoral research in Genetics at the University of California, Berkeley and in Biochemistry at the University of California, San Francisco. She became a faculty member at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1983 and moved to Stanford University in 1996. Her research contributions have been published in prestigious journals such as Cell, Nature, Genes & Development, Neuron, and Journal of Cell Biology.

    Projects

    With her collaborator, graphic designer Ann Boughton, Tobin has completed the production of three educational multimedia CD-ROM discs about the genetic revolution in medical care sparked by the rapid advances in our knowledge about the human genome. An on-line version derived and updated from these CDs is pending release through Twisted Ladder Media, and is entitled: "The New Genetics: Medicine and the Human Genome. Molecular Concepts, Applications, and Ramifications." In addition, Tobin and Boughton have collaborated on educational websites on inherited risk of breast cancer and on hereditary colorectal cancer with the Stanford Cancer Genetics Clinic.

    Tobin's current major research interests include an educational project funded by the National Science Foundation to create and evaluate innovative modules for undergraduates entitled, "The New Genetics: Electronic Tools for Educational Innovation." The modules are presented in on-line form as an electronic course and are accompanied by workbook exercises and problem sets. The content includes principles of genetics, molecular genetic technologies, applications in medicine, environmental biology, agriculture, and society, as well as implications. In addition, she is collaborating on two projects that are exploring the ramifications of using genetic information about addiction risk in the judicial system.

    Tobin is a member of the Benchside Consultation Team for the Center for the Integration of Research on Genetics and Ethics, and she evaluates clinical protocols for ethical issues for the Clinical Translational Research Program.

    BioAndreas Tolias is a faculty member at Stanford University, where he co-leads the Enigma Project. His research lies at the interface of neuroscience and AI, combining large-scale neuroscience experiments with machine learning to uncover the principles of natural intelligence. By focusing on perceptual inference and decision-making, his lab integrates systems and computational neuroscience with AI to decipher the network-level principles of intelligence. Dr. Tolias’s work aims to reverse-engineer these principles to create AI systems that are smarter, more robust, trustworthy, and efficient, while providing a powerful platform to test brain algorithms under complex natural tasks. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, a Ph.D. in Systems and Computational Neuroscience from MIT, and completed postdoctoral training in Neuroscience and Machine Learning at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe human brain is composed of billions of neurons connected through trillions of synapses that form the neural circuits underlying thought, emotion, learning, memory, and behavior. These synaptic connections are not static - they are continuously shaped and remodeled throughout life in response to experience, a processes critical for learning and memory. When neural circuits fail to develop or function properly, the consequences can be devastating, contributing to conditions ranging from autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability to chronic pain, depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, and cognitive decline.

    Research in the Tolias laboratory seeks to understand the fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern how neural circuits form, adapt, and repair themselves in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS). Our work focuses on how neurons sense signals from their environment and convert them into intracellular signaling pathways that drive synapse formation and remodeling, dendritic and axonal growth, and cell migration. We are also interested in how disruption of these pathways contributes to neurological and neuropsychiatric disease, and whether targeting specific signaling mechanisms can promote recovery following CNS injury or disease.

    The laboratory combines mouse genetics with molecular, cellular, biochemical, electrophysiological, genomic, and behavioral approaches to bridge fundamental neuroscience with translational discovery.

    BioDiana M. Tordoff, PhD, MPH is an epidemiologist with expertise in LGBTQ+ health equity and gynecological health research. Dr. Tordoff completed her PhD and MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Washington and received a BA with honors in Mathematics from Vassar College. She is also an affiliated researcher with The PRIDE Study (pridestudy.org), where she recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship. Her current research focuses on the impact of exogenous hormones (gender affirming hormones and menopause hormone therapy) on sexual and gynecological health. Her research interests include sexual and reproductive health, menopause, the vaginal microbiome, molecular epidemiology, intersectionality, and community-engaged research methods.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur lab is focused on exploring the role of matrix remodeling in disease progression in metabolic dysfunction steatohepatitis (MASH)-related hepatocellular carcinoma and primary sclerosing cholangitis. Our goal is to uncover how biomechanical characteristics of the ECM affect mechano-sensation, and how these pathways could ultimately be targeted. We are also interested in aging and its effects on metabolic pathways in MASH and HCC.

    BioDr. Lénie Torregrossa is a clinical psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. At Stanford, she works on the inpatient psychiatric units and in the INSPIRE clinic.

    Dr. Torregrossa specializes in schizophrenia spectrum disorders, psychosis, and serious mental illness. Her approach to treatment is person-centered and recovery-focused, grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and informed by acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). She is a CBT for Psychosis (CBTp) trainer and a member of the early psychosis coordinated specialty care team (INSPIRE360) at INSPIRE. Dr. Torregrossa's research focuses on risk and protective factors for schizophrenia spectrum disorders, self-disturbances in schizophrenia, and improving treatments for psychosis. She serves on the steering committee of the North America CBT for Psychosis Network (NACBTpN) and is a member of the Schizophrenia International Research Society, the Society of Biological Psychiatry, and the American Psychological Association.

    BioDr. Tracy is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonary. His clinical interests include care for children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), chronic respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation, childhood interstitial lung disease, and cystic fibrosis. He serves as the director Pediatric Pulmonary BPD Program, and co-director of the Cardiac and Respiratory care for Infants with BPD (CRIB) Program. He is the medical director of the Stanford Technology Assisted Respiratory (STAR) Program and the physician lead for the inpatient Pulmonary consult service at LPCH. Dr. Tracy is currently involved in clinical research to improve care for infants with BPD. With regard to medical education, he was formerly a chief resident in pediatrics at LPCH, and served as a faculty coach in the pediatric residency program.

    Clinical Professor, Radiation Oncology - Radiation Therapy

    BioDr. Nicholas Trakul is a radiation oncologist with Stanford Medicine Cancer Center and clinical associate professor of Radiation Oncology-Radiation Therapy with Stanford School of Medicine. Dr. Trakul serves as Medical Director for Stanford Medicine Radiation Oncology in Pleasanton and for the Stanford Medicine I Sutter Health Cancer Collaborative in Castro Valley.

    Dr. Trakul completed residency training at Stanford in 2013 and then joined the faculty at the University of Southern California, where he specialized in head and neck and central nervous system malignancies, with an emphasis on stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR/SBRT). He is widely published as first author in peer-reviewed journals. His research focus involves the creation of novel clinical databases as well as outcomes in the treatment of head and neck, gastrointestinal and thoracic malignancies. In 2017, Dr. Trakul returned to Stanford Medicine, becoming the Medical Director of Stanford Medicine Radiation Oncology in Pleasanton. In 2020, he was named Medical Director of Stanford Radiation Oncology Network Sites. Dr. Trakul served as medical directorship of Eden Radiation Oncology Center from 2022 to 2023, the first site to become operation under the Stanford/Sutter Cancer Collaborative. In 2024, he was named Vice Chair and Director of the Radiation Oncology Network. In November of 2024, Dr. Trakul was named Medical Director of Alta Bates Herrick Radiation Oncology. He is focused on providing access to high quality radiation therapy, collaboration with community health care systems and creating/maintaining productive and high engagement workplace culture. He believes in providing personalized, high-quality care, and bringing new technology to the East Bay, allowing patients to access cancer care while staying connected to their communities and support networks.

    BioDr. Jessica Tran Miller is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and hospitalist at Stanford. She serves as Unit-Based Medical Director for the Alternative Inpatient Care Areas. She is also a physician lead for Stanford Health Care at Home, where she helped expand surgical care pathways and home-based post-acute care.

    Dr. Miller's research explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and clinical care, including AI-personalized patient education, post-hospitalization care, and evaluation of large language model responses for clinical quality and safety. She leads funded research on AI-personalized patient education aimed at strengthening care continuity after discharge. Her prior work has been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, and she has presented at national and international forums.

    A graduate of Stanford Medicine's Realizing Improvement through Team Empowerment program, Dr. Miller is active in quality improvement leadership within the Division of Hospital Medicine, with interests spanning care transitions, high-value care, and care delivery innovation. She also serves as a faculty advisor and instructor for the Stanford Healthcare Consulting Group, mentoring undergraduate, medical, and business students as they develop initiatives to address real-world health care delivery challenges.

    Clinical Assistant Professor, Surgery - Vascular Surgery

    BioDr. Tran is a vascular surgeon in the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Division at Stanford Health Care. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Tran’s clinical expertise includes the entire spectrum of vascular surgery, including minimally invasive strategies for aortic aneurysm repair and multiple methods of managing peripheral vascular disease. He also specializes in treating cerebrovascular disease (problems with blood flow in the brain) using carotid angioplasty and stenting, transcarotid artery revascularization, and conventional carotid surgery. In addition, Dr. Tran offers comprehensive dialysis access management and treats venous reflux (when leg veins fail to return blood to the heart).

    Dr. Tran has a special interest in minimally invasive techniques for repairing complex aortic conditions using custom stents placed inside blood vessels (endografts). He has expertise in designing, fabricating, and implanting physician-modified endografts tailor-made to each patient’s unique aortic anatomy. This technique expands the ability to offer minimally invasive repair to more patients.

    Dr. Tran’s research efforts focus on utilizing novel computational approaches to better understand and optimize blood flow patterns after complex aortic repair. This work has helped improve the understanding of how different types of aneurysm repair perform long term. Dr. Tran hopes to use these research findings to improve clinical outcomes for patients with aortic aneurysmal disease.

    Dr. Tran has published his work in numerous prestigious peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Vascular Surgery, JAMA Surgery, and the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He has presented at the podium at numerous national and international conferences.

    Dr. Tran has received multiple research awards, including the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society’s Medtronic Resident Research Award and Best Resident Presentation at the Swiss Society for Vascular Diseases. In addition, he received the Young Researcher Prize at the European Symposium on Vascular Biomaterials for his research related to complex aortic repair hemodynamics (blood flow). Dr. Tran also coauthored a chapter in the book Complications in Endovascular Surgery.

    BioDr. Nam Phuong Tran is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia before returning to the Bay Area to complete her Internal Medicine residency at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco. Following residency, she was selected as the inaugural Clinical Research Fellow in Autoimmune Liver Diseases within CPMC's Division of Hepatology. Dr. Tran began her career as a hospitalist during the COVID-19 pandemic and has practiced in both community and academic healthcare settings. She joined the Stanford School of Medicine faculty in 2026 as a member of the Surgical Co-Management team, where she specializes in the management of complex medical conditions in patients undergoing surgery.

    Her clinical and academic interests include chronic liver disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD/MASH), clinical reasoning, and medical education.     Mickey Trockel

    Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

    BioMickey Trockel is the Director of Evidence Based Innovation for the Stanford University School of Medicine WellMD Center. His development of novel measurement tools has led to growing focus on professional fulfillment as a foundational aim of efforts to promote physician well-being. His scholarship also identifies interpersonal interactions at work as a modifiable core determinate of an organizational culture that cultivates wellness.

    Dr. Trockel serves as the chair of the Physician Wellness Academic Consortium Scientific Board, which is a group of academic medical centers working together to improve physician wellbeing. The consortium sites have adopted the physician wellness assessment system Dr. Trockel and his colleagues have developed, which offers longitudinal data for benchmarking and natural experiment based program evaluation. His previous research included focus on college student health, and evaluation of the efficacy of a national evidence based psychotherapy dissemination effort. His more recent scholarship has focused on physician wellbeing. He is particularly interested in developing and demonstrating the efficacy of interventions designed to promote wellbeing by improving social culture determinants of wellbeing across student groups, employee work teams, or larger organizations.

    BioDr. Boukhman Trounce graduated from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and went on to complete her emergency medicine residency and fellowship in Disaster Medicine and Bioterrorism Response at Harvard Medical School. She worked with the Center for Integration of Medicine and Technology (CIMT), a consortium of Harvard teaching hospitals and MIT, where she led BioSecurity related projects in conjunction with the US State Department. She also received her MBA from Stanford Business School.

    After Harvard she joined UCSF as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and was Medical Director for Disaster Response. For the past 11 years, she has been at Stanford Medical School, where she is a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine.

    She directs the BioSecurity program at Stanford, focused on protecting society from pandemics and other threats posed by infectious organisms, with a specific emphasis on approaches to interrupting transmission of infectious organisms in various settings.     At Stanford, over the past ten years she has established and directed a class on BioSecurity and Pandemic Resilience , which examines ways of building global societal resilience to pandemics and other biothreats and has educated over a thousand students. She has also taught an online Harvard course on medical response to biological terrorism, educating thousands of physicians globally.

    She has served as a spokeswoman for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and is a founding Chair of BioSecurity at ACEP. In addition to her academic research and speaking at national conferences, she also consults nationally and internationally to healthcare systems, governments, and other organizations.
