    BioDr. Bhati is an interventional psychiatrist with expertise in psychiatric diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and neuromodulation. He completed postdoctoral research studying language abnormalities and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) evoked potentials in schizophrenia. He was a principal investigator for the DSM-5 academic field trials, and his research experiences included roles in the first controlled clinical trials of TMS and deep brain stimulation (DBS) for treatment of depression. He was the founding Chief of Interventional Psychiatry at Stanford where he performs consultations and provides pharmacological and neuromodulatory treatments. His current research interests include studying magnetic resonance imaging and augmented reality to target TMS, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) for treatment-resistant depression, DBS for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and depression, responsive neurostimulation (RNS) for treatment of impulse and fear-related disorders, and focused ultrasound (FUS) for treatment-resistant OCD and depression. Dr. Bhati seeks to train more providers in mental healthcare and founded a clinical fellowship in Interventional Psychiatry at Stanford.

    BioDr. Bhatia is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is a dual Board-certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist with nearly two decades of clinical experience caring for patients with various psychiatric conditions. She leads the adult anxiety clinic at Stanford. Her work has been cited in Time magazine, Scientific American, and the Atlantic, and her professional opinions have been quoted in media such as CNBC, The Guardian, U.S. News and World Report, The Wall Street Journal, and others. Dr. Bhatia served as President-Elect of Northern California Psychiatric Society and is Immediate Past President of the Association of Women Psychiatrists. She is the co-author of the chapter on Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders in the recent Study Guide to DSM-5 TR, a companion volume to DSM-5 TR. She is a public mental health educator and for her work in this arena, she was honored with the 2021 Jerilyn Ross Clinician Advocate Award by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. She has also been a recipient of the Marian Butterfield award. Her other roles include serving as Section Editor for Current Opinion in Psychiatry, a Wolters Kluwer journal, for the last 8 years. She also served as Associate Editor of Current Psychiatry for 6 years. She is often invited to give talks at national, regional and local conferences and organizations.

    She takes a whole-person approach, utilizing active, empathic listening and aimed at understanding the biological, psychological, social, and other factors affecting an individual’s mental health. She integrates judicious medication management with psychotherapy. Her psychotherapy approach is informed by various evidence-based psychotherapies such as psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based, self-compassion-focused interventions. Dr. Bhatia’s other professional interests include ruling out medical conditions mimicking anxiety and other psychiatric disorders, the intersection of technology and mental health, bullying prevention, and compassion and empathy cultivation- she has also authored publications on these topics.

    BioDr. Bhatia is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist with Stanford Health Care and a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences, Division of Neurocritical Care at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Bhatia joined Stanford in 2024 after completing Neurocritical Care fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. He provides critical care to patients following acute neurological injuries, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, and other disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system. He strives to provide excellent patient care in multidisciplinary teams. He enjoys teaching and is the physician lead for simulation for Advanced Practice Providers in Neurocritical Care. He currently serves as the Unit Based Medical Director for the Neurosciences ICU at Stanford Hospital, leading the unit's initiatives in quality and patient safety.

    Dr. Bhatia’s research interests include longitudinal outcomes for patients with moderate-severe acute acquired brain injury requiring intensive care unit admission. He is developing a neurointensive care recovery clinic at Stanford Healthcare to follow these patients through transitions of care and support neurorecovery.

    Dr. Bhatia has published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Neurology, Journal of Neurosurgery, and Stroke. He has presented at national meetings for the American Academy of Neurology, Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology, and American Epilepsy Society. He has served as a guideline ambassador for the American Heart Association and is a member of the Neurorecovery Clinic Section of the Neurocritical Care Society. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends.

    BioApurva Bhatt, M.D., is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist and Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. Her role spans the General Adult Psychiatry Division, Child Psychiatry Division, and Center for Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing.

    Dr. Bhatt specializes in early psychosis evaluation and treatment. She is the Director of the Child INSPIRE clinic and currently provides clinical care in both the Stanford Children’s Hospital Child INSPIRE early psychosis clinic and the Stanford Health Care INSPIRE clinic and INSPIRE360 Coordinated Specialty Care/Wraparound program. She contributes to early psychosis program development in California (through EPI-CAL as the Psychiatric Provider Team Lead) and nationally (through PEPPNET). She is also co-chair of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Adolescent Psychiatry Committee and Early Psychosis work group.

    Dr. Bhatt is also a school psychiatrist, providing school clinical consultations for the Redwood City School District through the Stanford Redwood City Sequoia School Mental Health Collaborative. She also provides clinical consultations to schools in the Los Altos School district, and supervises child and adolescent psychiatry fellows providing consultation to Los Altos, Redwood City, and Mountain View schools.

    Dr. Bhatt’s research interests include Asian American and South Asian youth mental health and prevention of youth suicide. She enjoys teaching and mentoring students and trainees, and currently is a mentor through the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

    BioDr. Bhatt is an expert clinician, educator, and health system leader in the specialty of internal medicine. She earned her MD from University of California San Francisco School of Medicine and completed her training at UCSF’s Internal Medicine residency program. Dr. Bhatt is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Bhatt cares for people ages 18 and up. She practices at Stanford Express Care in Palo Alto and San Jose, where she serves as the Medical Director of the clinic. She has a particular interest in the care of medically complex patients and in teaching and practicing evidence-based medicine. She believes that the patient-clinician relationship is the foundation of good care and strives to develop respectful and collaborative relationships with all her patients.

    BioDr. Achin Bhowmik serves on the faculty of Stanford University as an adjunct professor at the Stanford School of Medicine, where he advises research and lectures in the areas of sensory augmentation, computational perception, cognitive neuroscience, and intelligent systems. He is also an affiliate faculty member of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute and Human Performance Alliance, and a mentor for the Stanford Institutes of Medicine Summer Research Program.

    Dr. Bhowmik is the chief technology officer and executive vice president of engineering at Starkey Hearing Technologies, a privately-held medical devices company with over 5,000 employees and operations in over 100 countries worldwide. In this role, he is responsible for the company’s technology strategy, research and development, engineering and program management departments, and leading the drive to transform hearing aids into multifunction wearable health and communication devices with advanced sensors and artificial intelligence.

    Previously, Dr. Bhowmik was the vice president and general manager of the Perceptual Computing Group at Intel Corporation, where he was responsible for the R&D, engineering, operations, and businesses in the areas of 3D sensing and interactive computing, computer vision and artificial intelligence, autonomous robots and drones, and immersive virtual and merged reality devices.

    Dr. Bhowmik is a member of the Forbes Technology Council, board of trustees for the National Captioning Institute, board of directors for Mojo Vision and OpenCV, board of advisors for the Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership at the University of California, Berkeley, and industry advisory board for the Institute for Engineering in Medicine and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He is also on the board of advisors for several technology startup companies.

    He has also held adjunct and guest professor positions at the University of California, Berkeley, Liquid Crystal Institute of the Kent State University, Kyung Hee University, Seoul, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar. He received his Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, PhD from Auburn University, and attended the Executive Program at Stanford University. He has authored over 200 publications, including two books and over 80 granted patents.

    BioMy clinical interest in pregnancies complicated with birth defects has led my underlying research interests in genomic abnormalities in the human trophoblast carrying to faulty placentation. The latter began with initial work during K12 and KO8 funding. I took a great interest in the human placenta as it carries potential advantages over other tissues sources: first, this highly metabolically active organ is the potential source of many transcripts. Second, the placenta forms at a very early stage of embryonic development, potentially allowing detection of primary alterations as compared to secondary changes that may mask the underlying causal phenomena. Finally, studying early placentation may provide targets for development of novel molecular approaches, such as up-regulate or down-regulate genes, the protein products of which could potentially serve as molecular surrogates for diagnosis and treatment of pregnancy complication such as miscarriages, pre-eclampsia, pregnancy induced hypertension and intrauterine growth retardation. This work has led to the first Trisomy 21, Trisomy 18, trisomy 13 cell lines established from human placentas making it possible to apply gene editing in the early stages of human trophoblast development.

    As my primary clinical responsibility involves treating patients needing medical care and support through their high risk pregnancies, I am interested in factors that may impact outcomes, such as prenatal screening and diagnosis, maternal heart conditions, labor and delivery management, and safety approaches for the second stage of labor. In investigating length of labor and approaches to shorten the second stage, I have found methods of improving perinatal outcomes in diverse maternal populations.

    With regards to my interest in fetal medicine, I have worked in collaboration with other specialists such as radiologists and pediatric cardiologists utilizing imagining studies to assess and determine successful perinatal care and fetal survival.

    BioDr. Vasiliki Bikia is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stanford University, jointly affiliated with the Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) and the Department of Biomedical Data Science, where she works under the mentorship of Prof. Roxana Daneshjou. She holds an Advanced Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece (2017), and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland (2021). Her doctoral work focused on addressing the clinical need for non-invasive cardiovascular monitoring by combining machine learning with physics-based numerical modeling.

    Dr. Bikia's research centers on the development of large multimodal models to improve patient outcome prediction. She is also passionate about building patient-facing chatbots that help individuals better understand complex medical information, ultimately aiming to enhance communication and empower patients in their care journey. Moreover, she has contributed to the Stanford Spezi framework, designing and prototyping the Spezi Data Pipeline tool for enhanced digital health data accessibility and analysis workflows.

    BioMary Sheridan Bilbao, MPAS, PA-C, FAPACVS, is an accomplished advanced practice provider specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery. She earned both her Undergraduate degree and Masters of Physician Assistant Studies at Marywood University. With extensive experience in cardiothoracic surgery, Mary became an integral part of our team in 2014.

    Her expertise spans both in-patient and outpatient care, where she actively participates in surgical procedures and contributes to various studies and laboratory research. Mary's proficiency extends to open and endoscopic vein harvesting, radial artery harvesting, valve replacements, minimally invasive aortic and mitral valve repair/replacements, ascending aorta/aortic dissection/aortic arch repair/replacements, redo surgeries, coronary artery bypass grafting (off and on-pump), robotic-assisted minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting, minimally invasive myocardial bridge unroofing, heart/lung transplants, VADs, and ECMO.

    Beyond her clinical duties, Mary plays a crucial role in training new PAs, NPs, APP fellows, residents, and medical students in various surgical skills. In the clinic, she performs history & physicals, pre-op evaluations, orders/interprets studies & labs, and coordinates in-patient and out-patient care.

    Since January 2015, Mary has been the driving force behind the Stanford Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery's Human Biorepository Tissue Bank. This initiative has amassed over 1,000 human cardiothoracic tissue samples, fostering approved studies to advance cardiovascular and pulmonary disease research. Collaborating with over 30 partners and Stanford labs, Mary's goal is to facilitate research by providing cardiothoracic tissue samples to researchers and scientists across Stanford Medicine.

    Currently, Mary holds the position of Principal Academic and Clinical Integration Developer in the CT Surgery Department, further highlighting her leadership role in our institution. In this capacity, she plays a pivotal role in curating and developing marketing materials and outreach strategies for the department. Mary's dedication extends beyond clinical excellence; she actively contributes to fostering academic growth and enhancing the department's visibility.     BioRebecca Bilden, PhD, MSc is a T32 Postdoctoral Fellow in Pain and Substance Use at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she conducts research under the mentorship of Drs. Keith Humphreys and Brian Bateman. Dr. Bilden is a health services researcher and decision scientist whose work focuses on improving access to treatment for substance use disorders through evidence-based policy and simulation modeling. By integrating qualitative insights into models, she analyzes system dynamics and develops strategies to improve care delivery within complex healthcare systems.

    Dr. Bilden earned her PhD in Health Services Research and Policy from the University of Pittsburgh, an MSc in Applied Data Science and Statistics from the University of Exeter, and a BA in Pure and Applied Mathematics from Boston University. Her current research focuses on evaluating opioid-related policies, improving treatment retention among people with substance use disorders, and expanding access to care in carceral settings.

    BioDr. Binkley is a radiation oncologist specializing in lymphoma treatment and an assistant professor in the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology.

    His clinical expertise includes stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), total lymphoid and total body irradiation, and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).

    For each patient, Dr. Binkley develops a personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care plan. His goals are to improve both health and quality of life.

    Dr. Binkley has conducted extensive research to advance cancer treatment. In his post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford, he studied the use of genomic signatures to predict response to radiotherapy. His current clinical and laboratory research seek to identify prognostic and predictive clinical, radiographic, and genomic factors to inform individualized treatment strategies.

    He has co-authored articles on his research discoveries published in Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Discovery, Blood, the International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, and elsewhere. Topics have included innovations in the treatment of lymphoma and lung cancer.

    He also has made invited presentations to colleagues at national and international conferences. He has presented the latest findings on radiation therapy for lung cancer and lymphoma at meetings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma (ICML).

    Honors for Dr. Binkley include the Malcolm A. Bagshaw Award for leadership and outstanding scientific achievement. This award is named for a pioneer in radiation therapy and former chair of the Departments of Radiology and Radiation Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Binkley is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, and American Association for Cancer Research. He is a founding member of the Global nLPHL One Working (GLOW) Working Group, an international collaboration studying nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) in children and adults.

    BioDr. Brandon Birckhead is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He works in the Stanford University's Virtual Reality and Immersive Technology Clinic and Stanford Anxiety and Depression Adult Psychological Treatment (ADAPT) clinic.

    He was valedictorian for his graduating class of biological sciences at University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Followed by his medical degree at Mayo Clinic Medical School in Rochester Minnesota. He then received a master degree in healthcare delivery science at Cedars-Sinai. During this time he helped develop a set of recommendations for VR therapy clinical trials. He also helped design and implement some of the first remote CBT skills based VR therapy clinical trials for chronic pain. He was also the co-director of virtual medicine conference from 2019-2020. He then completed his psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins. During his residency he was a consultant to Apple, providing guidance on the Apple Vision Pro. He then spent some time on the Apple Health team as a clinical project manager.

    Clinically Dr. Birckhead offers a comprehensive approach to care, integrating evidence-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). When appropriate he also provides medication management. He is interested in working with adults with anxiety disorders, PTSD, mood disorders, and OCD. He is committed to a collaborative, personalized treatment process—working closely with each individual to understand their unique challenges and develop a tailored plan to support their mental health and well-being.

    BioDr. Bird received her PhD in Clinical Psychology and Quantitative Statistics from UCLA and completed her clinical psychology internship at the West Los Angeles VA. She is currently an NIH T32 Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford School of Medicine, working directly with Shannon Wiltsey Stirman in the CREATE Alacrity Center. Prior to academia, Dr. Bird worked in industry and nonprofit settings as a tech entrepreneur and business executive.

    Dr. Bird's research focuses on the development and implementation of AI-enabled tools for behavioral health interventions. She examines how AI technologies can support therapist workflows, enhance fidelity to evidence-based practices, and improve mental health care delivery for both clinicians and paraprofessional providers. Dr. Bird is particularly interested in identifying sustainable pathways for translating academic innovations in digital mental health into real-world practice, with the goal of increasing equity and access to care.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Bishop specializes in treating fractures of the upper extremity, lower extremity, pelvis and acetabulum as well as the management of post-traumatic problems including malunion, nonunion and infection.

    He received his undergraduate and medical school degrees from Harvard University and went on to complete the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. He pursued his subspecialty training in Orthopaedic Traumatology at the world-renowned Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

    His research interests include applying decision analysis models to orthopaedic trauma problems, studying clinical outcomes after musculoskeletal injury, orthopaedic biomechanics, the basic science of fracture healing, and evaluating new strategies and techniques in fracture surgery.

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Molecular and Cellular Physiology

    BioMahamaya is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Stanford University, where she specializes in Cellular and structural biology with a focus on membrane protein biogenesis, quality control, and the development of innovative nanobody technologies. Her research integrates advanced cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cell biology, and nanobody engineering to unravel the mechanisms governing the assembly and maturation of membrane protein biogenesis factor hubs with a focus on Voltage gated ion channels as a model substrate.
    Dr. Biswal’s scientific journey began with an integrated M.Tech in Biotechnology degree from D.Y. Patil University, India, where she conducted foundational research on bacterial persister cell formation at BARC and characterized breast cancer proteins ZBRK1 and BRCA1 at ACTREC,. After spending a brief time in biotech industry at Yashraj Biotechnology Ltd., Mumbai, optimizing purification pipelines for cancer antigens used in diagnostic kits and facilitating technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing, she moved to US to join UC Riverside’s PhD program under Department of Biochemistry and supervision of Dr. Jikui Song. She made significant advances in understanding the structural dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 proteins. Notably, she solved the X-ray crystal structure of the NSP7-8 complex, a key cofactor for the viral replicase, and also elucidated the interaction between the viral nucleocapsid protein and human G3BP1. Her doctoral and postdoctoral work has also contributed to studies on viral immune evasion, including the structural basis for STAT2 antagonization by DENV2 NS5.
    At Stanford, Dr. Biswal has expanded her expertise to the structural and functional study of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and currently focusing on gaining mechanistic insights on Membrane protein biogenesis factor hubs by combining cell biology and structural biology expertise. She is also developing nanobody libraries targeting synaptic vesicles and bacterial death effectors for in situ tomography and potential therapeutic applications respectively. Dr. Biswal is a committed mentor, having supervised graduate and undergraduate students, and is dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion in science through active involvement in organizations such as AWIS, BioAIMS, and BSS (India). Her scientific contributions have been recognized with honors including the HEERF Dissertation Year Fellowship, the Mary K. and Randolph T. Wedding Prize, and best poster awards at UC Riverside. Dr. Biswal’s long-term vision is to lead a research program that translates structural insights into therapeutic strategies for neurological and infectious diseases, advancing both scientific knowledge and the next generation of scientists.

  • Kameron C. Black

    BioDr. Kameron Black is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, where his research focuses on the safe deployment of agentic artificial intelligence in real-world healthcare systems. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Oregon Health & Science University and fellowship in Clinical Informatics at Stanford Health Care prior to joining the faculty. His clinical expertise is in the care of adult patients admitted to the inpatient general medicine services.

    Dr. Black is a leader in the deployment and evaluation of agentic AI in healthcare. His research has been featured by Anthropic, Forbes, Bloomberg, and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI. He has published scholarly work in journals including NEJM AI, Nature Medicine, npj Health Systems, JMIR AI, Nature Scientific Data, and Applied Clinical Informatics. Previously, he held research roles at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Black has delivered invited talks and participated in panels on agentic AI in healthcare for the American Academy of Home Care Medicine, the Healthcare Agent Summit hosted by Wedge Inc., and others. 

    Beyond his research, Dr. Black is dedicated to advancing undergraduate medical education (UME). He co-founded one of the nation's first longitudinal digital health curricula for medical students. Today, he continues to lecture at the UME level and across various departments at Stanford Medicine on agentic AI, the Cosmos data science platform, and other related topics.

    He is certified across Epic's analytics and build tools, including Physician Builder and the Cosmos data science platform.

    BioAlexandria Blacker, PhD, MPH is the Director of the Stanford Department of Medicine’s Community Partnership Program and adjunct fauclty in the Milken School of Public Health at George Washington University. As a public health professional, Dr. Blacker has worked in breast cancer behavioral research, primary care redesign, community health, health care worker well-being, and program implementation.

    In her current role, she focuses on building bi-directional, equitable, and sustainable partnerships to advance local health equity. Dr. Blacker’s research focuses on understanding processes to developing sustainable community-academic partnerships and exploring the complexity of interprofessional health care teams including teaming behaviors and contextual influences.

    Dr. Blacker has had the pleasure of working with Stanford in both the health care and University settings. As a Stanford Health Care employee, Dr. Blacker worked for the Stanford Coordinated Care clinic and managed the disease management program for employees and staff. She also worked closely with her colleagues to assist in the change management efforts for the Primary Care 2.0 redesign implementation by developing educational curriculum and go-live execution with physicians, clinic managers, and team members.

    As a University employee, Dr. Blacker previously worked as part of the HealthySteps to Wellness team as the Wellness Manager for Stanford Health Care. In this role, she worked cross-functionally with department heads to design and manage wellness-based trainings. She has developed curricula in positive psychology, stress management, and behavior change. She has conducted over 100 trainings and conducted programmatic evaluations to streamlining processes to increase overall effectiveness.

    BioOriginally from a tiny village in Northern Germany, Andreas moved to the city for his bachelor’s from the University of Hamburg. After graduating with a master’s in biochemistry from the University of Tübingen in Southwestern Germany, Andreas moved abroad for his PhD to Vienna, Austria. At the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), he discovered a complex on the sperm surface that connects to the egg membrane. Having studied the function of intricate membrane protein complexes, Andreas made the journey overseas to join the Pleiner lab and investigate how the cell manages and coordinates their production. In his free time, Andreas enjoys hiking in summer and skiing in winter.

    BioDr. Blair is a licensed clinical psychologist and is board certified in behavioral sleep medicine. Her clinical and research expertise are in behavioral medicine with specializations in sleep and sexual health. She has made numerous presentations, developed workshops, written chapters and published articles in the area of sleep and sexual medicine. Dr. Blair is a Stanford sleep consultant and is on the adjunct faculty at The Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine. She is also the Clinical Director of The Clinic.

    Dr. Blair completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University Medical School and her pre-doctoral internship at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System. Dr. Blair received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Dr. Blair founded a successful business consulting firm.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsProf. Helen Blau's research area is regenerative medicine with a focus on stem cells. Her research on nuclear reprogramming and demonstrating the plasticity of cell fate using cell fusion is well known and her laboratory has also pioneered the design of biomaterials to mimic the in vivo microenvironment and direct stem cell fate. Current findings are leading to more efficient iPS generation, cell based therapies by dedifferentiation a la newts, and discovery of novel molecules and therapies.

    BioDr. Nathaniel Blecher is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma care at Stanford Health Care. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    His clinical interests include innovative surgical treatments for glaucoma—including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS)—as well as the connection between lifestyle and ocular health. Dr. Blecher provides comprehensive care for the full spectrum of glaucoma, both early-stage and particularly advanced disease.

    His individualized approach includes laser therapy, medical management, MIGS procedures, and more complex interventions such as tube shunt placement and trabeculectomy. He also treats coexisting conditions like cataracts, ensuring patients receive coordinated, whole-eye care.

    Dr. Blecher’s research interests include treatments for pseudophakic angle closure, which is a rare situation when high pressure inside the eye suddenly develops despite cataract surgery. He has also studied the finer details of correctly detecting glaucoma progression based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) analysis, considering the changes that can be seen from comorbid conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.

    Dr. Blecher’s research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and Ophthalmology Case Reports. He has presented internationally on topics such as MIGS and complex glaucoma management.

    He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society.
