Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur laboratory integrates cutting-edge synthetic biology, immunology, and machine learning to engineer T cell therapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases. We have 3 research areas:
- Analysis of clinical single-cell and spatial transcriptomics datasets from T cell therapy trials to identify mechanisms of resistance
- Building AI systems to generate T cell designs predicted to improve patient outcomes
- Genetic screens of novel T cell designs in models that mimic key mechanisms of resistance -

BioThirumagal Gowrikanthan is an undergraduate student at McMaster University pursuing a degree in Life Sciences (HB.Sc.) along with a Concurrent Certificate in Science Communication. In addition to her research at McMaster, which focuses on knowledge translation and cardiology, she is a Research Scholar with the Stanford University School of Medicine, where she conducts research to advance the health of Asian populations through data science. Her broader interests include enhancing patient care by translating research into practice and bridging the gap between research and clinical application to ensure healthcare is accessible to all.

Peter Greenberg

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr Greenberg's clinical research involves design and coordination of clinical trials using experimental drugs with biologic focus for both lower and higher risk MDS patients not responding to standard therapies. These studies are particularly based on his prior laboratory investigations of gene expression and hematopoietic regulation in MDS patients. He is Coordinator of the International Working Group for Prognosis in MDS (IWG-PM) which generated the revised MDS classification system (the IPSS-R) and the mutation-based prognostic risk system, the IPSS-Molecular (IPSS-M). This project uses such findings to more specifically characterize and treat MDS patients. He is Chair of the NCCN Practice Guidelines Panel for MDS.

BioMaxime Griot, M.D. PhD, is a research scientist at the intersection of medicine and frontier artificial intelligence. Dr. Griot studied computer science at Université d'avignon in France before obtaining his M.D. in from Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium. Following his M.D. he pursued a PhD in computer science and medicine at the Université catholique de Louvain.
Dr. Griot's work spans the complete pipeline of medical LLM development, from requirements engineering, training, evaluation, implementation, and post-market surveillance. He notably created Chopper, a chatbot intergated in the Epic EHR at the university hospital Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc, serving more than 2000 users and hundreds of thousands of requests. -

BioDr. Cassandra Gross is a physician specializing in internal medicine and geriatric medicine, with a clinical focus on post-acute and long-term care. Dr. Gross is passionate about empowering older adults to make healthcare decisions that reflect what matters most to the individual and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high quality care. Her academic interests include medical education in the skilled nursing facility setting, improving LGBT+ care across the continuum of care, and optimizing nutrition in older adults. She leads a Sustainable Practices Curriculum for geriatrics fellows to help foster self- reflection and career resilience.

BioI'm a researcher at Stanford's Digital Health Team within the Center for Biodesign and at the Max-Planck Institute at the Center for Adaptive Rationality. In my research I focus on digital interventions for well-being and user autonomy through app-based tools and on-platform interventions.
Besides my academic affiliations, I'm the Scientific Director of the one sec app (https://one-sec.app) and Structured app (https://structured.app), and the Science Board Director at the Prosocial Design Network (https://www.prosocialdesign.org), leading their research on digital interventions and creating frameworks and guidelines for use by researchers and practitioners in the field. -

BioRuwan Gunaratne, MD, PhD is an Instructor in Hematology at Stanford University School of Medicine and a board-certified hematologist-oncologist with a clinical focus on acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). His clinical and translational research centers on improving disease monitoring in myeloid cancers using personalized circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) profiling, a blood-based approach designed to more sensitively track measurable residual disease (MRD), assess treatment response, refine risk stratification, and detect relapse earlier across the myeloid disease spectrum. Dr. Gunaratne’s work has been recognized with awards from the American Society of Hematology and the Stanford Cancer Institute, and he is actively committed to advancing precision medicine approaches for patients with myeloid malignancies.

Mengni Guo

BioDr. Mengni Guo is a medical oncologist in the Division of Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine and a member of the Stanford Breast Cancer Program. She specializes in the care of patients with breast cancer, from active treatment through long-term survivorship. Dr. Guo emphasizes an individualized, team-based approach, working closely with patients and multidisciplinary specialists to develop treatment plans that reflect each patient’s clinical needs, personal values, and long-term quality of life.
Dr. Guo’s research focuses on breast cancer survivorship, particularly metabolic health during and after cancer treatment and the prevention and management of long-term treatment effects. She also uses large real-world datasets to study breast cancer treatment patterns and outcomes and to identify strategies to improve long-term health after cancer therapy. Her research has been presented at national meetings, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.
