    BioGe Wang is an Associate Professor at Stanford University in the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). He specializes in the art of design and computer music — researching programming languages and interactive software design for music, interaction design, mobile music, laptop orchestras, expressive design of virtual reality, aesthetics of music technology design, and education at the intersection of computer science and music. Ge is the author of the ChucK music programming language, the founding director of the Stanford Laptop Orchestra (SLOrk). Ge is also the Co-founder of Smule (reaching over 200 million users), and the designer of the iPhone's Ocarina and Magic Piano.     BioGordon Wang received his Bachelors of Arts and Science from the University of California, Davis in 2000 majoring in Comparative literature and Genetics. He received his PhD under Dr. Mu-ming Poo at the University of California, Berkeley in 2005 studying the role of ion channels in mediating neuronal growthcone guidance decisions. As a postdoctoral scholar in the lab of Dr. Stephen Smith at Stanford University, Gordon developed a computational architecture for the detailed study of molecular diversity in synapses and using this system, he studied the diverse role of synaptic diversity in neurodevelopmental diseases, such as fragile x syndrome. In a co-postdoc in Dr. Philippe Mourrain's lab, he studied the dynamic plasticity of synapses in sleep and circadian cycles in larval zebrafish using multi-photon microscopy. The Wang lab focuses on developing imaging tools to deeply analyze proteins, mRNA and lipids at the synapses, and understand how synaptic heterogeneity affect the function of neural circuits throughout development and aging and in diseases such as autism and fragile x syndrome.

    BioHai Wang is Silas H. Palmer Professor of Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. His research interests are high-speed propulsion, combustion, and renewable energy conversion. His current research topics include combustion chemistry of conventional and renewable fuels, detonation, high-speed propulsion, quantum-chemistry guided battery materials design, and transport theories. He is the author and coauthor of recent papers in scholarly journals, including "Stable sodium-sulfur electrochemistry enabled by phosphorus-based complexation" in PNAS, “Geometric modeling and analysis of detonation cellular stability" in Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, "Flame-formed carbon nanoparticles exhibit quantum dot behaviors" in PNAS, "Nanoparticles in dilute gases: Equivalence of momentum accommodation and surface adsorption" in Physical Review E, "A Physics-based approach to modeling real-fuel combustion chemistry. I. Evidence from experiments, and thermodynamic, chemical kinetic and statistical considerations" in Combustion and Flame, and “Formation of nascent soot and other condensed-phase materials in flames” in Proceedings of the Combustion Institute. He was the Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, a highly influential energy journal published by Elsevier with an impact factor of 35.3 (2021). Currently, he serves as the President of the Combustion Institute - an international, non-profit, educational and scientific society that promotes and disseminates research activities in all areas of combustion science and technology for the advancement of many communities around the world.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur primary research focus is understanding the molecular mechanisms of axonal degeneration and subsequent failure of axonal regeneration in the CNS. We have identified critical cellular pathways mediating axonal degeneration following acute neurological injuries including ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury. Modulating these pathways presents a novel therapeutic strategy to protect vulnerable nerve fibers and enhance functional recovery in a multitude of acute CNS injuries and diseases.

    BioDr. Wang is a board-certified dermatologist. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Wang is also board-certified in dermatopathology.

    Her clinical interests include medical dermatology and cutaneous oncology, including melanoma, high-risk skin cancer, and cutaneous lymphoma. Her research interests include the histopathologic characterization of rare skin disorders and improving the detection and treatment of skin cancers.

She is an expert in CyberKnife SRS/SBRT with more than 15 years of experiences. She currently serves as the chair of the AAPM task group 135.B committee on quality assurance for robotic radiosurgery.

    Research interest: small field dosimety, machine and patient quality assurance, treatment planning, etc; new QA tool and methodology development; new treatment technology implementation to keeping high standard in patient care.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe study how the extraordinary diversity of cells and synapses in the brain is generated, organized, and maintained, and how these processes are disrupted in diseases such as neurodevelopmental disorders and brain cancer. By combining single-cell and spatial genomics, lineage tracing, perturbation screens, synaptic proteomics, and machine learning models, we aim to uncover the molecular rules that define neural identity and connectivity.

    Our research spans two interrelated themes, each grounded in human biology and driven by cutting-edge technologies. By comparing these processes across species, we aim to uncover both conserved mechanisms and human-specific innovations that define the unique features of the human brain.

  • Samantha Wang

    Samantha Wang

    BioDr. Samantha Wang is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. She received her medical and masters in health sciences degrees from Yale School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Stanford, where she served as Chief Resident. She practices as a hospitalist at Stanford Health Care and works closely with residents and students in clinical teaching and mentorship. Her clinical focus is in patient-centered communication, and she directs inpatient implementation of the Serious Illness Care Program while studying strategies to improve the quality and impact of serious illness conversations for hospitalized patients.

    Dr. Wang’s academic work spans health equity, medical education, and faculty development. She leads national collaborations advancing scholarship and advocacy in health equity and has received innovation grants to develop curricula addressing bias, structural racism, and diagnostic equity in clinical care. Her “5-Minute Moment for Racial Justice” curriculum has been disseminated nationally and internationally through Stanford CME and YouTube and translated into multiple languages. She received the American Board of Internal Medicine Professionalism Article Prize (2025) for her scholarship on professionalism and advancing health equity.

    Dr. Wang leads faculty development initiatives within the Division of Hospital Medicine that support mentorship, scholarship, and community building. Her work focuses on creating environments where faculty can thrive academically while fostering inclusive learning communities for the next generation of physicians. In recognition of these efforts, she received the Stanford University Women’s Forum Inspiring Early Academic Career Award.

    BioDr. Wang is a research scientist in the Wang group. He previously completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the Wang group and his BS and PhD in the Department of Engineering Physics at Tsinghua University. Sen's research interests focus on technologies and methods for image processing, reconstruction, and recognition, especially in the medical field. His PhD work investigated reconstruction algorithms and applications of x-ray spectral imaging, including photon counting detector modeling and correction, as well as quantitative imaging and computer vision with deep learning on x-ray images and other medical images.

    At Stanford, Dr. Wang works on advanced CT detector designs and imaging algorithms.

I investigate outcomes of treatments for glaucoma and cataract, as well as other areas of ophthalmology. My focus is on developing artificial intelligence methods to predict ophthalmology outcomes, while ensuring fairness.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur research focuses on unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying retinal development and diseases. We employ genetic and genomic tools to explore how various retinal cell types, including neurons, glia, and the vasculature, respond to developmental cues and disease insults at the epigenomic and transcriptional levels. In addition, we investigate their interactions and collective contributions to maintain retinal integrity.

    1. Investigating retinal development:
    We utilize genetic tools and methods such as in vivo plasmid electroporation and CRISPR to dissect the roles of cis-regulatory elements and transcription factors in controlling retinal development.

    2. Understanding diabetes-induced cell-type-specific responses in the retina:
    Diabetes triggers a range of multicellular responses in the retina, such as vascular lesions, glial dysfunction, and neurodegeneration, all of which contribute to retinopathy. We delve into the detailed molecular mechanisms underlying these diabetes-induced cell-type-specific responses and the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy.

    3. Developing molecular tools for labeling and manipulation of specific cell types in vivo:
    Cis-regulatory elements, particularly enhancers, play pivotal roles in directing tissue- and cell-type-specific expression. Our interest lies in identifying enhancers that can drive cell type-specific expression in the retina and brain. We incorporate these enhancers into plasmid or AAV-based delivery systems, enabling precise labeling and manipulation of specific cell types in vivo.

He is a board-certified anesthesiologist and intensivist with clinical expertise in critical care medicine and liver transplant anesthesiology.

    Dr. Wang completed his medical school training, anesthesiology residency, and critical care fellowship at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Wang is deeply committed to medical education and academic innovation. He serves as the Associate Program Director for the Liver Transplant Anesthesiology Fellowship and is the founding director of Stanford's Anesthesiology Critical Care Education for Leaders (ACCEL) program. He is also Director of Residency Engagement for WikiAnesthesia, a comprehensive digital platform designed to serve as an open-access repository of anesthesia knowledge for trainees and practitioners.

    Prior to medicine, Dr. Wang worked as a software engineer at Epic Systems, where he developed an appreciation for the intersection of technology and healthcare delivery.

    BioYuan Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth System Science at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. He is also a Center Fellow in the Woods Institute for the Environment. Prior to joining Stanford, he was an Associate Professor at Purdue University and a research scientist at California Institute of Technology. His research group aims to advance the understanding of the physical and chemical interactions between atmospheric constituents and climate change. Specifically, his group conducts research related to aerosol-cloud-radiation interactions and their climatic implications, aerosol properties and haze formation, cloud and precipitation microphysics, and the assessment of the greenhouse gas and aerosol forcings on the atmosphere, ocean, and cryosphere. They develop and use multiscale numerical and AI models in combination with space-borne and in situ measurements to address those scientific questions. Yuan is a recipient of the James B. Macelwane Medal and James R. Holton Award from the American Geophysical Union, the Henry G. Houghton Award from the American Meteorological Society, and the CAREER Award from National Science Foundation.

    BioYuyan Wang is an assistant professor of marketing and Kevin J. O’Donohue Family Faculty Scholar for 2024–2025 at Stanford Graduate School of Business. With over six years of industry experience at Google DeepMind and Uber as a machine learning researcher, she has designed algorithms for understanding and improving the long-term values of recommender systems, many of which have been deployed globally in multiple products at Google and Uber Eats. Her background is in statistics, with a PhD from the Department of Operations Research & Financial Engineering (ORFE) at Princeton University and a BSc from the Special Class for the Gifted Young at the University of Science of Technology of China. She has received the Steven Shugan Best Junior Faculty Paper Award at the AI in Management Conference (AIM) in 2025, and the Best Paper Award at the Conference on Information Systems and Technology (CIST) in 2022.

    At Stanford GSB, Wang created and taught Understanding AI Technologies for Business Problems, the school’s first technical MBA course on AI.

    BioMichael Wara is a lawyer and scholar focused on climate and energy policy.

    Wara is Director of the Climate and Energy Policy Program and a senior research scholar at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment as well as Senior Director for Policy at the Sustainability Accelerator within the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

    Wara organizes and manages cross-functional teams that provide fact-based, bipartisan, technical and legal assistance to policymakers, environmental justice advocates, and tribes engaged in the development of novel climate and energy law and regulation. He also facilitates the connection of Stanford faculty and students with cutting edge policy debates on climate, energy and climate impacts, leveraging Stanford’s energy, climate and natural resource expertise to craft real world solutions to these challenges.

    Wara’s legal and policy scholarship focuses on wildfire, climate policy, electricity regulation, and insurance.. He collaborates with economists, engineers and scientists in research on the design and evaluation of technical and regulatory solutions to society's climate and energy challenges.

    Wara has served as a Wildfire Commissioner for California, as a member of the California Catastrophe Response Council, the oversight body of the California Wildfire Fund, as a consultant to the Senate pro Tem on wildfire issues, and as a consultant to CPUC and OEIS on utility wildfire risk management. Wara has served on multiple National Academy of Sciences and California Council on Science and Technology reports.

    Prior to joining Woods, Wara was an associate professor at Stanford Law School and an associate in Holland & Knight’s government practice. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School and his Ph.D. in Ocean Sciences from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

    Clinical Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health

    BioDr. Ward is the Chief of the Geriatrics Section in the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine, and a Clinical Professor of Medicine. In this leadership role, she supervises program leaders across outpatient, inpatient, and skilled nursing facility settings, bringing them together to provide longitudinal, coordinated care to older adults across the healthcare continuum.

    Dr. Ward is a fellowship-trained geriatrician with Stanford in Palo Alto, California, and is board certified in geriatric medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and internal medicine. Her clinical practice spans all care settings—outpatient clinics, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities—with a focus on managing the critical transitions between them. She specializes in comprehensive care for older adults, including dementia care, palliative care, geriatric assessment, and best practices in nursing home care. Dr. Ward draws on her extensive experience to teach and implement evidence based models that support care for older adults. Dr. Ward's research interests include early detection of dementia in vulnerable populations, dementia care support programs, and geriatric assessment in diverse populations.

    She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society; The American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy; The Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging; and the Journal of Palliative Medicine. She has served as an ad hoc reviewer for several journals, including Geriatrics, and has presented posters at annual meetings of the American Geriatrics Society and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
    Dr. Ward is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Geriatrics Society.

    BioMeghan is a Civic, Liberal, and Global Education (COLLEGE) Lecturer and a sociologist. She uses qualitative methods to study bodies as sites for the reproduction of gender inequality. More specifically, she studies sexual violence, family formation, and pregnancy and childbirth. Her work can be found in Sociological Perspectives, Contexts, and The Annual Review of Law and Social Science.

    In her dissertation, she uses interviews, surveys, and observations to study how women in the SF Bay Area prepare for and experience their first births. This research is supported by grants from the American Sociological Association, the Center for Institutional Courage, the Stanford Ethnography Lab, and the Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences.
