Anna Gomes
Ph.D. Student in Earth System Science, admitted Autumn 2020
BioMy main interests lie within anthropogenic climate change, environmental science, and agriculture. The complex system dynamics and interconnections between agriculture and the environment including nutrient cycling, energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions are a few of the most critical challenges for today's soil scientists. After completing a master’s degree in Sustainability Science and Environmental Studies at Lund University in Sweden, researching farmer adoption of practices which mitigate GHGs from arable soils in the Netherlands at Wageningen University, I started a PhD in Earth System Science at Stanford University, aiming to focus on soil and environmental biogeochemistry. In parallel to my work in academia, I have been working on a start-up to address food waste and food insecurity in CA (Ugly Food Market), in addition to being a team member on several projects including a sharing library (Circle Centre), a soil science educational platform (Soil Life), and other sustainability related initiatives.

Rubén A. González
Ph.D. Student in Education, admitted Autumn 2020
Other Tech - Graduate, GSE Dean's Office
Other Tech - Graduate, Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP)BioRubén González, proudly from Greenfield, California, is a Ph.D. candidate in the Race, Inequality, and Language in Education (RILE) program at Stanford University. His research interests focus on the sociopolitical disposition and action of teachers of color, and the use of critical pedagogy and Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) in classroom settings. He dedicates his work to improving the K-12 schooling experiences of Black, Indigenous, all students of color, and other marginalized youth. Rubén taught high school English, English Language Development, and AVID in Sacramento, California, for six years prior to pursuing his graduate studies. Rubén also worked with (im)migrant and multilingual Latinx youth as an academic tutor in classroom and after-school settings in Dixon, California, during his undergraduate studies. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in English at Sacramento State University after transferring from Hartnell College. At the statewide level, Rubén serves on the Education Trust–West’s (ETW) Educator Advisory Council (EAC). In local community settings, Rubén has organized with the Association of Raza Educators (ARE) Sacramento, and Ethnic Studies Now (ESN) Sacramento and Elk Grove.

Anju Goyal
Masters Student in Community Health and Prevention Research, admitted Autumn 2022
Fellow in Pediatrics - Hematology/OncologyBioDr. Anju Goyal is a pediatric hematology oncology fellow physician at Stanford University School of Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago. She then served as an AmeriCorps member with City Year Chicago, fostering her dual interests in community advocacy and education. She went on to receive her medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles and to complete her pediatrics residency at Stanford University School of Medicine.
During her research time as a pediatric hematology oncology fellow, Dr. Goyal has pursued a Master's degree in the Community Health and Prevention Research Program at Stanford University. She sought this additional research training to learn how to parter effectively with communities to achieve health equity. Specifically, her primary research project has utilized the principles of community based participatory research to partner with a local organization, Jacob's Heart, and to understand the financial burden of childhood cancer for Latinx families. Additionally, she has honed a skill set in medical education and is conducting research on how to promote well being for pediatric hematology oncology fellows. -
Noah Greenwald
Ph.D. Student in Cancer Biology, admitted Autumn 2017
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsUsing deep learning to analyze multiplexed imaging data; profiling the tumor microenvironment to predict response and resistance to checkpoint blockade; integrating genomics, transcriptomics, and imaging to understand how changes in DNA and RNA affect phenotypes at the protein level
