Oliver O. Aalami, MD

BioDr. Oliver Aalami is a vascular surgeon and the Director of Digital Health at the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign. His primary mission is to advance healthcare access through digital health education, research, and translation. At Stanford, he serves as the course director for Biodesign for Digital Health and Building for Digital Health and is a co-founder of Spezi (formerly CardinalKit), an open-source framework developed to support sensor-based mobile research.
His recent work focuses on the intersection of AI and patient care, including the development of an FDA-cleared open-source computer vision model for opportunistic abdominal aortic diameter quantification on routine CT scans. Additionally, he is developing LLMonFHIR, a system that allows consumers to "chat" with their medical records (FHIR resources) on mobile devices, as well as AI-assisted coaching tools to guide patients through therapy. -

Mohammad Abbasi, PhD

BioI am a Research Software Engineer (RSE) | Data Scientist & Data Manager at the Stanford Translational AI (STAI) Lab. I lead data engineering and AI infrastructure across large-scale neuroscience and healthcare projects, building standards-first, end-to-end pipelines for data collection, curation, preprocessing, and multimodal integration. My work emphasizes reproducibility, scalability, and interoperability through BIDS-style schemas, schema validation, containerized deployments, and CI/CD across heterogeneous computing environments.
I have designed and maintained containerized preprocessing workflows for thousands of subjects across major datasets, automating modality-specific steps such as registration, intensity normalization, bias-field correction, motion/confound estimation, quality control, and downstream metadata exports. I ensure these pipelines are robust, well-documented, versioned, and reusable across projects, sites, and modalities. -
Frank Abild-Pedersen
Senior Scientist, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
BioDr. Abild-Pedersen is the co-director of SUNCAT Center for Interface Science and Catalysis. He is leading a research team that focuses on developing an understanding of the factors determining the catalytic properties at the interface between gas/solvent and solid surfaces and to apply these insights to processes and catalysts of importance for energy transformations and for sustainable chemical production. His research takes advantage of computer facilities at SLAC and Stanford to gain the necessary understanding and to link these simulations to experiments where new catalyst synthesis methods are developed, and the catalyst materials are characterized both in terms of performance (activity, selectivity, durability, etc.) and in terms of geometrical and electronic structure. The underlying philosophy of his research is that by having a fundamental understanding of the way surfaces catalyze a chemical reaction we can make a quantum leap in our ability to make predictions for new catalysts and processes. This requires the development of a theory of heterogeneous catalysis, including electrocatalysis, based on computational and experimental results.
Dr Abild-Pedersen has extensive experience with simulations and modeling of chemical reactions. His work began with the derivation of energy correlations in catalysis that have helped speed up screening for active, selective and stable catalysts for energy conversion as a graduate student working with Professor Jens K. Nørskov at the Technical University of Denmark. He moved to SLAC in 2010 as a staff scientist and helped build up SUNCAT and define research directions in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. -

Siwaar Abouhala

GraduateCELC, Haas Center for Public ServiceBioSiwaar Abouhala [pronounced: Sea-waar Ah-bu-ha-la] (she/her) is an incoming first-year medical student, a Knight-Hennessy Scholar, and a Leadership in Health Disparities (LHDP) researcher at Stanford Medicine. Siwaar is a health equity researcher and leader, with interests in community-engaged methods, maternal and child health, minoritized health disparities, and implementation science.
She graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University in May 2023 with triple majors in community health (highest thesis honors), biology, and Arabic language and cultural studies. There, she founded MARCH: Maternal Advocacy and Research for Community Health, the largest undergraduate student-run maternal health organization in the United States, as well as the Arab Maternal Health in Ohio Study, the first qualitative maternal health assessment among Arab American mothers.
After graduation, Siwaar conducted extensive biomedical and public health research to further health equity, including at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard [Founder of Project MENA PEDIGREE: Middle Eastern or North African Progressing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Genetic Research, Education, and Empowerment], Tufts Medicine [Founder of Project INSPIRE: Improving New Somerville Parent and Infant Resiliency and Engagement], the Arab American Health Network Alliance (AAHNA), and the Rare Disease Diversity Coalition (RDDC).
Siwaar plans on training as a physician-advocate at Stanford, with research and health innovation serving as a necessary bridge between both roles.

Maheen Mausoof Adamson

Staff, Neurosurgery OperationsBioDr. Maheen Mausoof Adamson is a Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery (Affiliated) at Stanford School of Medicine, Director of Research for Women's Operational Military Exposure Network Center of Excellence (WOMENCOE), and Senior Scientist for Rehabilitation Services at VA Palo Alto Healthcare System. Adamson completed her undergraduate degrees in neurobiology and women's studies at the University of California, Irvine. She completed her Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Southern California and a postdoctoral fellowship in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford School of Medicine. She also has a Masters in Healthcare Leadership from the School of Public Health from Brown University and is a faculty fellow for Stanford Byers Biodesign Program.
Dr. Adamson’s expertise and interests span employing translational neuroscience methodologies for diagnostic and neuromodulation treatments (such as repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)) for frequent health problems in patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), psychiatric problems, and Alzheimer's disease. She has employed advanced structural and functional imaging modalities and biomarker assessments for treatment response and diagnosis in Veteran, active military, and civilian populations with these health problems. She has been a leader in identifying sex differences in brain injury, particularly in the Veteran population. She currently serves as PI and Site-PI on numerous neuromodulation clinical trials and collaborates internationally to develop advanced diagnostic methods in neuroimaging, especially in underserved communities. As Director of the Adamson Lab, she is actively involved in translating research, such as neuromodulation and virtual and augmented reality, into clinical settings.
In her new role as Research Director of WOMENCOE, she is developing the research and education center to investigate and disseminate findings on the impact of military environmental exposure on reproductive health, cancer, psychiatric illness, cognitive decline, and other women's health issues. This network is funded by the VA Health Outcomes Military Exposure Center under Department of Veterans Affairs
Dr. Adamson is also the lead PI of ENIGMA-PAK study that aims to Leverage Consanguinity in Pakistan to Uncover the Genomic Architecture of Alzheimer's Disease. She has received recognition in national and international settings and serves on several editorial and industry advisory boards. She is also CEO and founder of her digital health startup Soof Solutions Inc which uses eye tracking for communication in individuals lacking the power of speech. She is also intricately involved in mentoring postdoctoral fellows, residents, undergraduates and high school students in STEM careers.
