Katherine Li

BioKatherine Li is a Sustainability Technology & Business Analyst at the Stanford Sustainability Accelerator, where she supports Stanford-led research teams in externalizing their innovations to create sustainability impact. She holds an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Stanford and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Duke University, where she was a Pratt Research Fellow and NAE Grand Challenge Scholar.
Katherine previously worked in the Intellectual Property Office at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, supporting the commercialization of energy and physical sciences technologies. Her research background spans water affordability, environmental pollution, and uncertainty modeling, with work conducted at Stanford, Duke, and Memorial University of Newfoundland. Current Academic & Clinical Focus: As an Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering (ICME) and Affiliate Faculty at the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI), Dr. Li specializes in AI strategy, enterprise governance, and commercial scale. His work centers on Innovation to Impact (I2I) and Trusted AI—bridging the gap between frontier technical research, clinical adoption, and real-world deployment. He collaborates across Stanford Engineering, Medicine, and Stanford Health Care as a strategic architect and educator for AI deployment in high-stakes environments.
Enterprise & Open Source Leadership: Prior to Stanford, Dr. Li spent nearly three decades at Intel Corporation, serving as Vice President and General Manager of AI & Analytics. In this role, he led global engineering teams across 10+ countries building full-stack AI software platforms powering enterprise-scale infrastructure. A long-time advocate for open science and industry oversight, he previously served on the governing boards of the PyTorch Foundation and Linux Foundation AI & Data alongside leaders from Meta, Google, OpenAI, Hugging Face, and Microsoft.
Scholarship & Academic Background: Dr. Li holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University in supercomputing research and completed executive education at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. BioWen’s research focuses on mitochondrial reverse electron transport (RET) in neurodegenerative diseases where tau pathology plays either a primary or secondary pathogenic role. Her work seeks to understand how pathological tau disrupts mitochondrial complex I function and RET, and how these alterations contribute to oxidative stress and neurodegeneration. Her research further explores whether targeting RET can provide a shared therapeutic strategy across tau-associated neurodegenerative diseases.

Xiang Li
Assoc Sci - Ultrafast AMO, LCLS - Linac Coherent Light Source
BioI am a scientist in the AMO Sciences Department and Data Systems Division at the LCLS. Investigating the ultrafast processes in atoms and molecules with charged-particle spectroscopy at x-ray free-electron lasers is the major theme of my research. It consists of three interconnected endeavors. One is to understand the material response to ultra-intense x-rays at the atomic level, and another is to exploit such x-rays as the probe for unraveling photo-induced molecular dynamics. And the third is to develop machine learning algorithms for solving some of the bottleneck problems in our field. I am involved in the design, assembly, and operation of experimental endstations at the AMO beamline of the LCLS, as well as the software development for AMO experiments performed at free-electron laser facilities.
