John Kieschnick

BioProfessor Kieschnick specializes in Chinese Buddhism, with particular emphasis on its cultural history. He is the author of the Eminent Monk: Buddhist Ideals in Medieval China and the Impact of Buddhism on Chinese Material Culture. He is currently working on a book on Buddhist interpretations of the past in China, and a primer for reading Buddhist texts in Chinese.
John is chair of the Department of Religious Studies and director of the Ho Center for Buddhist Studies at Stanford.

Bora Kim, MD, MAS

BioDr. Bora Kim is a board-certified psychiatrist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. With a strong background in neuromodulation, clinical research, and psychiatric epidemiology, Dr. Kim specializes in the treatment of mood disorders, suicidality.
Dr. Kim completed her psychiatry residencies in both South Korea and the United States, providing her with a unique cross-cultural perspective on mental health care in both English and Korean. She holds a Master of Advanced Study (MAS) in Clinical Research from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she gained expertise in advanced epidemiologic and biostatistical methods. Her clinical expertise includes transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and other neuromodulation techniques for treatment-resistant depression and suicidality.
Dr. Kim’s research focuses on precision psychiatry, with a particular emphasis on the use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to reduce suicidal ideation. As a faculty member at Stanford, she collaborates with the Brain Stimulation Lab to investigate novel applications of accelerated intermittent theta burst stimulation (aiTBS) in mood disorders and suicidality. -

Hyunkyung Claire Kim

BioHyunkyung Claire Kim is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the Translational Genomics of Diabetes Lab led by Dr. Anna Gloyn. She received her PhD in Genetics from the University of Chicago, where she developed a statistical method to disentangle shared and trait-specific genetic architecture across complex diseases using large-scale biobank data. Prior to her doctoral training, she worked at Massachusetts General Hospital, studying the genetic subtypes and heterogeneity of type 2 diabetes through data-driven clustering approaches.
She is interested in the translational genomics of diabetes, including integrating human genetics with clinical data to uncover disease mechanisms and advance precision medicine. Her long-term research interests include developing computational methods to understand how genetic, molecular, and environmental factors jointly shape metabolic disease risk, disease heterogeneity, and progression. -

Donghee Kim, MD, PhD

BioI am a physician with specialized training in gastroenterology and hepatology. My research primarily focuses on clinical research into metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), chronic liver diseases, and obesity-related gastrointestinal diseases, with a population-based study. In addition, my research has expanded to encompass cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, and psychiatry. I have extensive experience in large epidemiologic cohort studies as well as clinical trials. This work has resulted in over 300 published papers in prominent journals, including Gastroenterology, Journal of Hepatology, Gut, Hepatology, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, with the author serving as first or corresponding author. These publications have been cited more than 22000 times with an H-index of 73.

Donghoon Kim

BioDr. Donghoon Kim is a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford’s Center for Advanced Functional Neuroimaging (CAFN), working in close collaboration with the Stanford Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC). His work develops cutting-edge deep learning approaches for multimodal neuroimaging analysis, with an emphasis on the early detection and characterization of Alzheimer’s disease pathology.
Before joining Stanford, he earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Davis. His Ph.D. thesis was titled "Deep Learning-Driven Technical Developments and Clinical Applications of Arterial Spin Labeling MRI." During his Ph.D. studies, he focused on the development of advanced deep learning techniques for ASL MRI and its clinical applications. During his master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Tech–Wake Forest University, he studied the functional connectivity of the default mode network using resting-state BOLD fMRI among youth football players. -

Dr. Kim is the Director of Addiction Treatment Services at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Healthcare System, and a Clinical Assistant Professor (Affiliated) at Stanford University School of Medicine. At the VA Palo Alto, Dr. Kim teaches and supervises medical students, residents and fellows. He is also the President-Elect of the Federation of State Physician Health Programs, and a Councilor-at-Large of the Northern California Psychiatric Society. Grace S. Kim, MD
Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (OHNS)
BioGrace S. Kim, MD is a pediatric otolaryngologist and surgeon-scientist in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at Stanford University. Her clinical practice focuses on the full spectrum of pediatric otolaryngology, with particular expertise in hearing loss, chronic ear disease, thyroid disorders, vascular malformations and pediatric head and neck conditions. Her research investigates the immune mechanisms underlying congenital hearing loss and inner ear injury, with the goal of developing therapies to preserve hearing in children.
Dr. Kim received her BA in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University and her MD from Stanford University School of Medicine, where she also completed an additional year of research as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellow. She completed residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at Stanford, including a two-year NIH-sponsored research fellowship investigating vestibular repair and regeneration, followed by fellowship training in complex pediatric otolaryngology at Stanford.
Dr. Kim joined the Stanford faculty in 2023. She leads a translational research program investigating inner ear neuroimmunology and congenital hearing loss, using animal models to understand how congenital cytomegalovirus infection and immune responses impact the developing auditory system. Her long-term goal is to develop targeted therapies that prevent hearing loss in children. Her work is supported by an NIH Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development (K08) Award, as well as funding from the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology and the Stanford Maternal & Child Health Research Institute. -
Hyeonji Kim

BioDr. Kim is a translational bioprinting researcher specializing in tissue engineering and ocular regenerative medicine. She holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Her research focuses on developing innovative therapeutic platforms for ocular diseases using 3D bioprinting, biomanufacturing, and regenerative medicine.
She has developed 3D-bioprinted corneal stromal constructs that replicate native collagen alignment and achieve transparency, successfully restoring visual function in preclinical beagle models and subsequent veterinary clinical applications. She also advanced a simplified in situ corneal therapy that has completed veterinary clinical trials and is now licensed for anticipated human trials. Currently, she is developing ocular therapeutic implants using advanced 3D printing approaches.
Dr. Kim has collaborated with regulatory authorities and preclinical evaluation agencies to define guidelines for 3D-printed combination medical devices and to conduct safety testing of bioprinted corneas. Her work has been internationally recognized, contributing to her university's ranking as 12th in Reuters’ 2019 “Top 100 Most Innovative Universities,” and spans drug delivery, diagnostic and therapeutic devices, personalized medicine, and translational ophthalmology. Her long-term vision is to engineer personalized therapeutic implants and biofabrication technologies that bridge fundamental science and clinical translation, initially focusing on restoring vision and ultimately expanding to regenerative therapies for multiple organ systems.
