Hylton Molzof, PhD, MPH
Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences - Sleep Medicine
BioDr. Molzof is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Licensed Psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford School of Medicine. She specializes in the assessment and treatment of sleep disorders via behavioral sleep medicine interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and positive airway pressure (PAP) desensitization. She also utilizes evidence-based techniques to help patients better manage circadian rhythm disorders, such as delayed sleep-wake phase disorder and shift work sleep disorder. Inspired by her background in public health, she has a strong interest in quality improvement and program development projects aimed at enhancing the quality and accessibility of sleep and circadian medicine for the diverse patient population served by Stanford Sleep Medicine Center.

Shadi Momtahen

BioShadi Momtahen holds a BSc and MSc in Computer Science and Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Mechatronic Systems Engineering from Simon Fraser University, where she collaborated with the BC Cancer Agency on deep learning applications for cancer detection and treatment. She previously served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, working with the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD) to develop machine learning models for biosensor-based health monitoring.
Currently, Shadi is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Aghaeepour Lab at Stanford Medicine. Her research focuses on applying deep learning to large-scale medical datasets—including wearable vital signs—to identify clinically relevant patterns and enable predictive, personalized healthcare. -
Denise M. Monack

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe primary focus of my research is to understand the genetic and molecular mechanisms of intracellular bacterial pathogenesis. We use several model systems to study complex host-pathogen interactions in the gut and in immune cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells. Ultimately we would like to understand how Salmonella persists within certain hosts for years in the face of a robust immune response.

Samsuzzoha Mondal

BioSamsuzzoha Modal is a Research Associate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and a Ph.D. chemist specializing in advanced microscopy and biophysical chemistry. His research integrates protein engineering, structural biology, and quantitative imaging to understand how protein organization across length scales regulates biological activity, and to translate these mechanistic insights into therapeutic and diagnostic approaches.
Samsuzzoha earned his Ph.D. at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai, India), where he developed chemical tools to image signaling phospholipid dynamics in live biological systems. He then completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), building in vitro reconstitution models to study the molecular basis of membrane trafficking. Since 2023 at SLAC, he has been combining X‑ray crystallography, small‑angle X‑ray scattering, and advanced optical methods to uncover design principles for quantum biosensing tools and to support structure‑guided small‑molecule therapeutic development.
A committed educator and mentor, Samsuzzoha has taught bioanalytical chemistry and led diverse student teams, emphasizing inclusive, hands‑on training, reproducible data practices, and translational problem‑solving. -

BioBenoît Monin received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Princeton University, and an M.Sc. in Social Psychology at the London School of Economics. He completed his undergraduate studies at ESSEC (France). Monin joined the Stanford Department of Psychology in 2001, and since 2008 he has held appointments both in psychology and in the Organizational Behavior area at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Tamara Montacute, MD, MPH

BioTamara Kailoa Montacute is a board certified Family Medicine physician. She enjoys taking care of the entire family (including kids), and has special interest in women’s health, adolescent health, community health, chronic disease management, mental health and office based procedures. She also speaks Spanish.
She was born in New Zealand, grew up in England and moved to Seattle when she was twelve. Prior to attending medical school at Stanford, she completed her Masters in Public Health at Columbia University and spent several years working on public health programs in Mexico, Panama, Ethiopia and Rwanda. After medical school, she completed a Family Medicine Residency at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose. She is the co-medical director of Arbor Free Clinic, teaches several primary care focused medical student courses and spends part of her time caring for patients at the Samaritan House Free Clinics in Redwood City and San Mateo.
Outside the clinic, she enjoys hiking, biking, gardening and playing with her daughter and 2 dogs. -

Samuel Montalvo
Postdoctoral Scholar, Cardiovascular Medicine
BioAs a clinical exercise physiologist and sport biomechanist, I am dedicated to advancing human exercise and sports performance. I hold certifications as a Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS) and as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS, *D) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). In 2022, I was honored with the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship and a T32 Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Research Training in Myocardial Biology (TIMBS) at Stanford University.
My research focuses on understanding the mechanical, molecular, and physiological mechanisms that underpin human performance. I am also committed to developing innovative and practical training methods to enhance exercise and sports performance. Currently, I am a member of the Stanford Bioinformatics Core, contributing to the NIH-funded Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC) project. In this capacity, I analyze extensive clinical and exercise datasets, as well as multi-omic, multi-tissue, multi-exercise modality, and multi-species data, to uncover new insights into the biological mechanisms of physical activity and its impact on human health and performance.
In addition to my primary research focus, I collaborate with several teams at Stanford on projects involving Sports and Electrocardiography, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing, Exercise and Neuromuscular Disease, and the Stanford Baseball Team.
Beyond research, I am deeply committed to teaching and mentoring. As a first-generation college graduate and a Mexican-American with Indigenous heritage, I bring a unique perspective to my work, which informs my dedication to creating supportive and inclusive spaces for underrepresented groups in science and education. I serve as a Post-Doc Mentoring Coach in collaboration with the Stanford Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, where I facilitate bi-weekly workshops on mentoring for postdocs. I am also part of the Stanford PRISM program, which promotes opportunities for postdoctoral scholars. Furthermore, I mentor prospective and current medical students through the MAVERICs program (Metascience Analyses and Explorations of Reproducibility in Cardiovascular Science) as part of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute, supporting their growth in cardiovascular research.
These experiences reflect my dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive academic environment. My long-term goal is to become a professor, combining my passion for research, education, and mentoring the next generation of scientists to advance the fields of exercise physiology, multi-omics, and sports science. -

Mercedes Montemayor Elosua

BioMercedes Montemayor is a Mexican composer, multidisciplinary artist, and doctor of musical arts candidate at Stanford University. Her works manifest as electronic and electroacoustic music, sound Art, sound installation, and performance Art. She composes multichannel pieces for the stage and the listening room at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), from 3-7th order ambisonics. Also a film lover, she actively participates in the sound design and compositions of short films— and is now entering the world of scoring the feature film with LOUWRIEN WIJERS: from Competition to Compassion (2025). Her career launched with her collaboration with Mexican textile artist Miriam Medrez, in her intermedia installation Jardín Onírico (2022), followed by an internship at an Architectural Acoustics firm, and a performance in Mutek (2023) in Museo Anahuacall, in Mexico City with her debut album Volumina (2023).She studied Audio Engineering at Tecnológico De Monterrey and is in love with the process of mixing and mastering her work. Recently she's been reading Kierkegaard which is a considerable influence in her upcoming works, and continues to experiment with space to voice her experience as an experiencer.

Maria Emilia Montez Rath
Assistant Professor (Research) of Medicine (Nephrology)
BioDr. Montez-Rath completed her PhD in Biostatistics from Boston University in 2008 focusing on methods for modeling interaction effects in studies involving populations with high levels of comorbidity, such as persons on dialysis. She is a senior biostatistician and director of the Biostatistics Core of the Division of Nephrology at Stanford University where she has been collaborating with faculty and fellows since 2010 to study a variety of research questions relevant to kidney disease. Her methodological interests are mainly data-driven and include the handling of missing data, survival analysis with an emphasis on models for time-varying covariates and competing risks, methods for analyzing epidemiologic studies, analysis of correlated data and comparative effectiveness studies, as well as data visualization.
