Zachary M. Sellers, MD, PhD
Adjunct Professor, Pediatrics - Gastroenterology
BioDr. Sellers is a pediatric physician-scientist and research and clinical development consultant. As a pediatric gastroenterologist and ion channel physiologist, Dr. Sellers' work in academia and pharma over the last 20 years has focused on improving the lives of individuals with complex and rare diseases through providing cutting-edge clinical care and advancing research and drug development. Dr. Sellers previously led a basic and translational research laboratory at Stanford, focused on epithelial ion transport and acid-base regulation using a variety of human and animal models. He is a firm believer in the exponential impact of team science and is adept working in multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams. He seeks out strategic partnerships and opportunities that can leverage his expertise and leadership to advance innovative therapies for areas of high unmet need and to support the development of the next generation of physician-scientists. Dr. Sellers received his BS (Animal Physiology and Neuroscience) and BA (Japanese Studies) from the University of California. San Diego, his MD and PhD (Molecular and Integrative Physiology) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and was trained in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Stanford, where he was previously a faculty member and attending physician. He held multiple leadership positions at Stanford, including Associate Chief of Research in Gastroenterology, Director of the Stanford Children's Pancreas Program, Lead Gastroenterologist for the CF Program, Director of the CFTR Phenotyping and Theratyping Program, and Physician-Scientist Advisor for the Pediatrics Residency Program.

BioCamille is a visiting medical student researcher in the Marsden Lab, working primarily with Dr. Alexander Kaiser. She is a Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation Fellow visiting from Boston University School of Medicine (Class of 2029) and earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics from Johns Hopkins University. Her research interests center on applying fluid mechanics and computational modeling to solve problems in pediatric cardiac surgery.

Edward Sheen
Adjunct Professor, Medicine - Med/Gastroenterology and Hepatology
BioDr. Edward Sheen is Chief Quality and Population Health Executive at L.A. Care. Serving more than 2.9 million members, L.A. Care is the largest publicly operated health plan in the country. As a public entity, its mission is to provide access to quality care for vulnerable and low-income communities and elevate the safety net. Previously, he was Chief Population Health Officer, Senior Vice President at Health Catalyst and Chief Medical Officer, Market Development and Solution Design at Lumeris, a leading value-based care technology and services operator as well as 4.5-5.0 Star Medicare Advantage plan. He has worked with health systems and payers across the country to improve health outcomes, enhance patient experience, strengthen care provider engagement, reduce costs of care, and accelerate their journey towards accountable care. He is dedicated to achieving accessible, equitable, person-centered, and high-performing care for all.
Dr. Sheen’s experience has bridged the public, private, non-profit, and academic sectors and additionally includes work with Stanford University, the White House, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, California State Assembly, Kaiser Family Foundation, Blue Shield, California and American Medical Associations, Genzyme, and early-stage companies. In 2014, he was one of 15 Americans appointed by President Obama a nonpartisan White House Fellow. He subsequently served as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense and Defense Department senior health policy advisor and was a recipient of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service. Dr. Sheen was a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He currently serves on the National Advisory Council on the National Health Service Corps, which advises the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the California Department of Public Health Office of Health Equity Advisory Committee. He is Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Global Health Faculty Fellow at Stanford. He has a long-standing active commitment to mentoring, teaching, and medical education.
Dr. Sheen completed his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at Stanford, received his MD from the University of California, San Francisco, and earned his MBA and MPH through scholarships at Stanford Graduate School of Business and Harvard School of Public Health, where he was also a Harvard Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership Zuckerman Fellow. He graduated magna cum laude from Brown University (B.A. Public Policy) with induction into Phi Beta Kappa. -

Rizwan Hassan Shinwari

Pilleriin Sikka
Basic Life Research Scientist, Multispecialty Anesthesiology
BioDr. Pilleriin Sikka is a Research Scientist at Stanford University School of Medicine, in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine. She is also affiliated with the Department of Psychology at Stanford University. Prior to joining her current role, she completed postdoctoral training in the Heifets Lab in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine and in the Stanford Psychophysiology Laboratory, directed by Dr. James J. Gross.
Dr. Sikka received her PhD in Psychology from the University of Turku (Finland), MSc degree in Neuroscience from the University of Oxford (UK), and BSc as well as MSc degrees in Psychology (with specializations in Clinical Psychology and Organizational Psychology) from Tallinn University (Estonia). She has received several prestigious research and teaching awards and secured competitive grants (e.g., Tiny Blue Dot Foundation, Mind Science Foundation) as both principal and co-investigator. With more than a decade of teaching experience, Pilleriin has designed and taught courses in psychology and neuroscience and has mentored numerous undergraduate and master’s students, and is currently supervising several PhD students. In parallel with her research at Stanford, she is also affiliated with the University of Skövde (Sweden) as a Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Neuroscience and with the University of Turku (Finland) as a Researcher.
Dr. Sikka's research integrates psychology, neuroscience, and anesthesiology to understand how experiences—particularly those arising during altered states of consciousness (i.e., sleep and dreaming, anesthesia, psychedelic states)—produce lasting psychological change and how these mechanisms can be translated into innovative, evidence-based interventions for mental health, well-being, and perioperative care.
