    BioShehla Admani is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Stanford University, School of Medicine. Dr. Admani completed her dermatology residency at the University California, San Diego where she served as chief resident during her final year. She then completed her pediatric dermatology fellowship at Stanford University, School of Medicine and has stayed on as faculty since that time. She is board certified in dermatology and pediatric dermatology. Dr. Admani’s academic interests include pediatric dermatology, vulvar dermatology and teledermatology.

    BioMaria Aleshin, M.D., is Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology, Director of the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Clinic, and Co-Director of the Inpatient Dermatology Consult Service at Stanford Medicine. Her clinical interests include hidradenitis suppurativa, complex medical dermatology, and inpatient dermatology. Dr. Aleshin received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and her M.D. from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She completed her dermatology residency at UCLA, where she also served as Chief Resident in her final year.

    BioDr. Bae is a dermatologist with Stanford Health Care and a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also serves as the assistant chief of quality, experience, and digital health.

    Dr. Bae develops comprehensive and compassionate care plans designed to meet the complete medical, surgical, and cosmetic needs of his patients. His clinical interests include prevention and treatment of skin cancer, acne, psoriasis, as well as the full range of general dermatologic skin conditions.

    He also focuses on advances in the management of rarer conditions such as Shoshin beriberi, the disease caused by thiamine deficiency, and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. In addition, Dr. Bae has investigated the risks of skin cancer development in organ transplant patients in the United states.

    His current research interests include utilizing technology and digital health solutions to expand patients’ access to dermatological care, improving the quality of care delivery, and enhancing the dermatological care experience for patients.

    He has co-authored peer reviewed publications on a broad range of topics from managing rare dermatological conditions to the state of diversity within the field of academic dermatology and issues pertaining to dermatology education and mentorship. His work has appeared in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Journal of the American Medical Association, American Journal of Medicine, Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, and elsewhere.

    Dr. Bae has made numerous presentations both in front of national and international audiences on various topics including autoimmune response to facial silicone injections, innovations in the laser treatment of actinic chelitis, scalp melanoma, and many other topics. He has presented at meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology, Cosmetic Surgery Forum, Association of Professors of Dermatology, and elsewhere.

    Among his honors, Dr. Bae received an American Academy of Dermatology international travel grant, a Stanford Society of Physician Scholars grant, and the American Academy of Dermatology Transplant Skin Center fellowship.

    Dr. Bae is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Medical Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He is also the founder of Refresh Bolivia, a non-profit organization serving the public health needs of underprivileged communities in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

    BioDr. Elizabeth Bailey is a Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at Stanford and serves as Program Director for the Stanford Dermatology Residency Program, Associate Clinic Chief of Medical Dermatology at Stanford Healthcare, and Director of Global Health Dermatology.

    She has a passion for thinking about how we communicate and how we can leverage relationships to improve how we communicate and work as a team in an inclusive and supportive environment. She loves thinking about this in the context of developing relationships with patients to help them achieve the best possible outcomes and in the context of helping our clinical teams perform to the best of their abilities. She also enjoys discovering ways to teach and learn these skills at all stages of medical education. Her work has included a project using art to cultivate communication skills, research on curriculum needs and opportunities to integrate educational content related to sexual and gender minority and skin of color in dermatology residency education, and ongoing work on communication skills training in dermatology residency education.

    Dr. Bailey graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and received her medical degree from Columbia University in New York, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and completed both her residency in dermatology and fellowship in dermatopathology at Stanford University Medical Center. She is board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology by the American Boards of Dermatology/Pathology.

    Dr. Bailey's academic interests include medical education, community outreach, global health, and skin cancer detection and prevention.

    BioIrene Bailey is a Regulatory Specialist supporting Dr. Jean Tang in the Dermatology Department. She is a trained clinical laboratory technologist from the Munster Technological University, Cork, Ireland. She worked in pre-clinical research for many years before transitioning her career to clinical research. Irene holds a Certificate in Clinical Trials Design and Management from UC Santa Cruz Extension. She started her career in clinical research at the Stanford Cancer Center, Clinical Trials Office before joining Dr. Tang's Team in 2011.
    Outside of work Irene enjoys visual and performing arts, Pilates and yoga.

    BioDr. Barnes is a board-certified dermatologist who provides care at Stanford Health Care Dermatology Clinics in Redwood City and Emeryville. She is also an Instructor of Dermatology within the Department of Dermatology at Stanford School of Medicine.

    Dr. Barnes specializes in diagnosing and treating a broad range of skin conditions, including hidradenitis suppurativa, skin cancer, and conditions that disproportionally impact people of color. As Co-Director of the Stanford Medicine Hidradenitis Suppurativa Specialty Clinic, her clinical focus includes maximizing awareness of and care options for this condition. Dr. Barnes is also the Founding Director of the Stanford Medicine Skin of Color Program and Director of Advocacy, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Dermatology at Stanford Medicine.

    Dr. Barnes’ clinical research focuses on identifying the underlying mechanisms associated with the onset and progression of hidradenitis suppurativa. These efforts include research on access to care among different patient populations and studies identifying immune-mediated characteristics of the condition. She is also engaged in efforts to promote broader and more effective outreach initiatives to drive melanoma awareness among minority populations and young children.

    Dr. Barnes has published her work in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. She has also been an invited guest speaker at national and international meetings, including those for the Society of Investigative Dermatology and the World Congress of Dermatology.

    BioJennifer K. Chen, M.D., is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology. She co-directs the medical student sub-internship program. She completed medical school at Johns Hopkins University, residency at Johns Hopkins and University of California, Irvine, and completed a Howard Hughes Fellowship at Stanford University. Her clinical interests include contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, complex medical dermatology, skin cancer, and inpatient dermatology. She has served on the Board of Directors for the American Contact Dermatitis Society and as an invited member of the Contact Dermatitis Committee for the World Allergy Organization. She is currently the President-Elect of the American Contact Dermatitis Society.

    BioAudris Chiang, MD is a Clinical Scholar and Postdoctoral Research Scholar of Dermatology. She received undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Economics at UC Berkeley, and obtained her medical degree at UC Irvine. She completed dermatology residency training at Stanford in the 2+1 basic science research track. She continues to conduct research in the laboratories of Kavita Sarin, MD PhD and Christina Curtis, PhD, studying the genetics of skin cancers and patients who develop multiple skin cancers. Her clinical interests include general medical dermatology, skin cancer, and atopic dermatitis.

    - Artificial intelligence approaches for melanoma and skin cancer early detection

    - Imaging mass spectrometry for skin cancer margin analysis and diagnosis

    I collaborate with other faculty within the Stanford Skin Innovation and Interventional Research Group (SIIRG) to conduct investigator initiated and sponsored clinical trials seeking to improve care for important dermatologic diseases

    BioDr. Grace Cho is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Stanford. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in molecular biology from Harvard University and attended medical school at Stanford. She completed her internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and her residency in dermatology at Stanford.

    Her clinical interests include full range of general medical dermatology, including acne, psoriasis, and prevention and treatment of skin cancer, as well as complex medical dermatology such as blistering and autoimmune dermatoses. She also has a special interest in medical education and mentorship.

    Dr. Cho is originally from Seoul, South Korea and Michigan. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, cycling, and reading.

    BioDr. Daneshjou studied Bioengineering at Rice University before matriculating to Stanford School of Medicine where she completed her MD and a PhD in Genetics with Dr. Russ Altman as part of the medical scientist training program. She completed dermatology residency at Stanford as part of the research track and completed a postdoc in Biomedical Data Science with Dr. James Zou. She currently is the assistant director of the Center of Excellence for Precision Heath & Pharmacogenomics, director of informatics for the Stanford Skin Innovation and Interventional Research Group (SIIRG), a founding member of the Translational AI in Dermatology (TRAIND) group, and a faculty affiliate of Human-centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) and the AI in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI) centers.

    BioJenny Deng is an Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator for Dr. Jean Tang in the Dermatology department. She received her bachelor’s in science from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a major in Molecular and Cell Developmental Biology. She is also a certified phlebotomy technician with an active license. Jenny was born and raised in San Francisco, and when she is not working, enjoys her spare time traveling, working out, and exploring new restaurants to eat.

During medical school, Dr. Dickman was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her dermatology residency at Stanford University and served as Chief Resident in her final year. She is board certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology. Her professional focus is general medical dermatology, including acne, psoriasis, skin cancer, and dermatologic surgery.

    Dr. Dickman also serves as the Medical Director of Dermatology for Stanford HealthCare-Valley Care and the Director of the East Bay Clinical Network for Stanford Dermatology, leading the department of dermatology's program building efforts and clinical operations in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.

    BioEdward Eid, MD is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Dermatology at Stanford University working with Professor Jean Tang.

    He received his medical degree from University of Beirut. After graduation, he completed his dermatology residency training at the University of Beirut Medical Center.
    His current work focuses on clinical trials for rare genetic disorders of the skin including gene therapy for recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am interested in all types of immune-mediated skin disease, with a focus on psoriasis and rheumatic skin disease. I co-direct a multi-disciplinary clinic dedicated to the care of patients with rheumatic skin diseases, such as lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, dermatyositis and scleroderma. I conduct multiple clinical trials and I participate in translational research with tissues obtained from a prospective cohort of patients with scleroderma, lupus, and dermatomyositis.

    BioDr. Kelsey Hirotsu is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed her fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology at the University of California San Diego. During fellowship she received additional training in cosmetic dermatology and laser procedures. She completed her dermatology residency at Stanford after graduating from Stanford University School of Medicine with a scholarly concentration in bioengineering. Dr. Hirotsu earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

    Dr. Hirotsu has presented at national and international dermatology conferences. She is a regularly invited reviewer for peer-reviewed journals and has authored numerous publications in top dermatology journals.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe work in epithelial tissue as a model system to study stem cell biology, cancer and new molecular therapeutics. Epithelia cover external and internal body surfaces and undergo constant self-renewal while responding to diverse environmental stimuli. Epithelial homeostasis precisely balances stem cell-sustained proliferation and differentiation-associated cell death, a balance which is lost in many human diseases, including cancer, 90% of which arise in epithelial tissues.

Her research interests include rare skin tumors, challenging lip lesions, non-invasive treatments, such as photodynamic therapy for non-melanoma skin cancer, and cosmetic procedures for acne scars and autoimmune conditions. Her work has appeared at national and international meetings and has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Lancet Oncology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, Journal of Dermatologic Surgery.

    BioJames grew up in Oxford in the United Kingdom. He graduated from Cardiff University School of Medicine with honours in 2017, and has a BSc in Medical Education. Following graduation, he completed two years as a clinical academic in Dermatology at the University of Oxford, conducting research investigating patient-reported outcome measures and quality of life in patients with Graft-versus-Host-Disease following allogenic stem cell transplant. He subsequently completed a two year precision medicine fellowship at the Stanford University Department of Dermatology, focusing on cutaneous oncology and hidradenitis suppurativa. He has also extensively published in medical education, and co-founded a novel peer reviewed medical journal targeted at encouraging medical students to publish and peer review. He is currently completing his residency in Dermatology at Stanford.

My research group at the University of California Santa Cruz, where I am an Assistant Professor of Biomolecular Engineering, is developing RNA technologies and tools for precision health, cancer early detection, and RNA medicine. I am also an Associate Member of the Canary Center at Stanford for Cancer Early Detection and a Research Scholar of the American Cancer Society.

    BioDr. Jiyeong Kim is a post-doctoral scholar at the Stanford Center for Digital Health and the Department of Dermatology School of Medicine. Dr. Kim is a computational epidemiologist, harnessing patient-and caregiver-generated health information and data to design patient-centered health interventions, which could be tailored to each patient group for improving patient engagement and better health outcomes.

    In her work, Dr. Kim uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing to understand patients' and caregivers' genuine voices of care needs and needed support. As a multidisciplinary epidemiologist, Dr. Kim's work focuses on translational health data science, embracing the intersection of mental health and digital health and expanding to patient-provider communications and health disparities among cancer survivors and caregivers of individuals with chronic conditions (e.g., Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia).

    BioDr. Ko joined Stanford Medicine in 2012 and serves as Director and Chief of Medical Dermatology for Stanford Health Care (SHC) while also spearheading the dermatology department's efforts around network development, digital health, quality/safety/performance improvement, and value-based care. He is active in a number of leadership roles within the organization including as an Associate Chief Quality Officer and physician dyadic partner to the Chief Experience Offer, as well as co-chair of the Clinic Advisory Council, a forum of medical and executive leaders of Stanford Health Care’s Ambulatory clinics.

    His passion for melanoma, early cancer detection, and improving care delivery drives his efforts and research around leveraging advances in machine learning and artifical intelligence to increase the breadth of populations that can be reached. He developed and runs a digital care delivery program at SHC, providing virtual visits for patients and remote consultations for referring clinicians. He conducts research on and engages in collaborations around interventions that layer advances in machine learning on digital health capabilities to enhance access, quality and value of dermatologic care and is a founder and leader of the Stanford Translational AI in Dermatology (TRAIND) group. He chairs the American Academy of Dermatology's Committee on Augmented Intelligence.

    Dr. Ko has also been driven to find new treatments for alopecia areata, an immune-mediated condition that can progress to total hair loss through various clinical trials and translational research efforts. He sits on the clinical research advisory board of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation and is a founder and co-director of the Skin Innovation and Interventional Research Group (SIIRG) which conducts clinical and translational research on skin disease.

    He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and worked in investment banking; mergers and acquisitions at JP Morgan before going on to earn a combined medical and business degree at Tufts University. During medical school, he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Ko then performed his residency at the Harvard Dermatology Residency Training Program where he served as chief resident.

    BioDr. Gina Kwon is a board certified dermatologist specializing in comprehensive dermatologic care covering skin cancer treatment and prevention, evaluation of moles and skin growths, actinic keratosis, warts, acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, and contact dermatitis.

    Dr. Kwon received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from Brown University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and then received her medical degree at Stanford University. After medical school, Dr. Kwon completed an internship in Medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore before completing her dermatology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. She completed the last year of her residency at Stanford as a research fellow and clinical resident where she studied new ways to prevent and treat basal cell carcinomas.

    BioBernice Kwong, M.D., is Clinical Professor of Dermatology, Director of the Supportive Dermato-Oncology Program, and Director of the Inpatient Dermatology Consult Service. She has a special interest in the management of cutaneous complications that arise in hospitalized patients and cancer patients. She runs the Supportive Dermato-Oncology Program at the Stanford Cancer Center, where she manages skin side effects of cancer therapies including chemotherapy-related skin reactions, radiation dermatitis, and graft-versus-host disease. Dr. Kwong completed medical school at Yale University, and completed her dermatology residency at Stanford University in 2012.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDeveloping gene therapy for genetic skin diseases is my major focus. Prior to that, we are developing methods to give effective and efficient care to infants with rare and disabling genetic skin diseases including epidermolysis bullosa and ichthyosis as well as infants and children with unusual and difficult to manage vascular malformations. I am also interested in clinical studies within the NICU protecting premature infants’ skin and clinical studies in children with common skin diseases.

    BioDr. Leatham is a dermatologist and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Her clinical interests include the prevention and treatment of skin cancer, acne, psoriasis, and dermatologic surgery, as well as the full range of general dermatologic skin conditions.

    Dr. Leatham’s research interests include the relationship between interferon expression, clinical characteristics, and prognosis in patients with dermatomyositis. She has co-authored articles on clinical factors associated with this condition, as well as other subjects such as blistering dermatosis as a sign of multiple myeloma relapse. Her work has appeared in the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Case Reports, Medicine, and other journals.

    Presentations by Dr. Leatham have addressed cutaneous coccidioidomycosis and a range of dermatomyositis-related topics, including interferon activity and malignancy screening outcomes. She has delivered these presentations at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology, Rheumatologic Dermatology Society, American College of Rheumatology, and Society of Investigative Dermatology.

    During medical school, Dr. Leatham was honored to be selected into the Stanford Gold Humanism Honor Society for demonstrating excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion, and dedication to service. She was also inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society during her chief resident year.

    Her community service activities include volunteering for SUNSPORT, the Stanford University Network for Sun Protection, Outreach, Research, and Teamwork, the most comprehensive sun protection outreach and research program of any university in the nation. This initiative provides risk awareness and sun protection education to Stanford outdoor athletes and fans, as well as all students, faculty, and staff. It is a collaborative effort of the Stanford Department of Dermatology, Stanford Cancer Institute, Stanford Hospital & Clinics, and Stanford Athletics.

  • Carolyn Lee MD PhD

    BioA native of Queens, New York, Dr. Carolyn Lee joined the Stanford Dermatology faculty in February of 2016 as a specialist in the management of patients at a high risk for developing skin cancer. This year, she has been a featured presenter at both the Society for Investigative Dermatology Annual Meeting and the Gordon Research Conference on Epithelial Differentiation and Keratinization. Dr. Lee graduated with honors from Yale University in 1998 with a BS in Biology and received her MD and PhD from Georgetown University with a specialty in tumor biology in 2006. She completed her Dermatology residency at Stanford in 2010 and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in epithelial biology in the lab of Dr. Paul Khavari in December of 2015. Dr. Lee possesses a strong interest in understanding the mechanisms of high-risk non-melanoma skin cancer and is currently a member of Stanford’s High-Risk Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer Working Group.
