BioNicole is the assistant clinical research coordinator in the McLaughlin Lab. She recently graduated from the University of California, Davis with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. At Davis, she volunteered at Dr. Carsten’s Lab researching the neural mechanisms of itch and pain. As assistant clinical research coordinator, Nicole hopes to use her passion for medicine to advance research findings and help those in need. She is kind, hard-working, and perpetually inspired to ignite positive, lasting change in her community.

Yousef Turshani MD FAAP

BioYousef Turshani MD is Chief Medical Officer at San Mateo Medical Center, part of the County of San Mateo leadership team. He cares for pediatrics outpatients at Fair Oaks Health Center in Redwood City. He is a pediatric nocturnist at San Francisco General Hospital, where he holds a faculty appointment at UCSF. Born to Libyan immigrants in Louisville, KY, he developed his passion for teaching and global health as a medical student at the University of Chicago. His pediatric residency began with UCLA's "Community Health and Advocacy Training" and completed at UCSF in 2009 when he joined the UCSF faculty as a neonatal hospitalist at California Pacific Medical Center, directing the newborn nursery rotation for medical students. He spent the next part of his career as a global health clinician until returning to California in 2014 with his wife, a human rights attorney, to continue their social justice work domestically.

Helena Turton
Postdoctoral Scholar, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
BioHelena is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Professor Edda Spiekerkoetter's laboratory in the School of Medicine. Her main focus is investigating right ventricular adaption and maladaptation in response to an increased afterload. She is also interested in left and right ventricular interdependence in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) . Helena completed her PhD in Pulmonary Vascular Biology under the supervision of Dr Roger Thompson, Professor Allan Lawrie, and Professor Sheila Francis at the University of Sheffield, UK. Her research focus also includes the investigation of dsRNA signalling in pulmonary vascular remodelling in PAH and pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD).
