Farzad Azimpour

BioFarzad leads Edwards Lifesciences' strategic innovation and future technologies incubator in the Advanced Technology unit as Senior Vice President. He is a cardiologist and medtech designer by background, bringing academic, start-up, and strategic industry experience applying needs-driven innovation discipline to solve high-impact challenges in cardiovascular disease.
Within his role, Farzad heads the Edwards Lifesciences Innovation Fellowship Program for cardiovascular physicians and surgeons, in partnership with the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF).
Academically, Farzad serves as Associate Director, Lead for Design at Stanford University's Byers Center for Biodesign where he teaches the application of design thinking to lifesciences.
He previously served as Director of Health at the global design and innovation firm IDEO, and Chief Medical Officer at Myia Labs, an American College of Cardiology and venture capital-backed digital health start-up.
Farzad completed his training in medicine and cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic and the University of Minnesota / Lillehei Heart Institute respectively, served as Chief Cardiology Fellow and NIH T32 Research Fellow designing and testing advanced cardiovascular technologies, and operated as the St. Jude Medical and Dean's Innovation Fellow at Stanford Biodesign.
He holds patents and patents pending in the fields of interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, and robotic surgery.
Farzad earned both his bachelor's degree in biological sciences and his MD from the University of Texas at Austin, and his post-doc in Biodesign from Stanford University School of Medicine.
He is a recipient of Phi Beta Kappa distinction and the Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Award. -

BioAmir Bahmani is a Lecturer and Director of Stanford's Deep Data Research Center (https://deepdata.stanford.edu), the Research and Development Lead at Stanford Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine (SCGPM) at Stanford School Medicine. He has been working on distributed and parallel computing applications since 2008. Currently, Amir is an active researcher in the VA Million Veteran Program (MVP), Human Tumor Atlas Network (HTAN), the Human BioMolecular Atlas Program (HuBMAP), Stanford Metabolic Health Center (MHC) and Integrated Personal Omics Profiling (iPOP).

Irene Bailey

BioIrene Bailey is a Regulatory Specialist supporting Dr. Jean Tang in the Dermatology Department. She is a trained clinical laboratory technologist from the Munster Technological University, Cork, Ireland. She worked in pre-clinical research for many years before transitioning her career to clinical research. Irene holds a Certificate in Clinical Trials Design and Management from UC Santa Cruz Extension. She started her career in clinical research at the Stanford Cancer Center, Clinical Trials Office before joining Dr. Tang's Team in 2011.
Outside of work Irene enjoys visual and performing arts, Pilates and yoga. -

With the help of an amazing team of content creators, she produces and curates original articles, photos, videos, graphics, and even podcasts.She works personally with each division, center, program, and lab within her purview to define their audience and reach their goals while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
She hosts quarterly professional development workshops open to all AEM web authors--please email her if you'd like to join! She also offers both 1:1 and group education to faculty and residents on a variety of topics including media training, using social media to advantage, and presentation refinement.
Rachel holds a Bachelor's degree in journalism with a focus on photography from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. A transplant from the DC-area, she still misses foliage and argyle but has happily adopted the official NorCal hobbies of visiting wineries, hiking local trails, and eating avocado.
